| #1CheironJun 25, 2014 1:04:09 | Hey guys I am staring a new character and i am doing something a bit out of the ordinary for me. Im playing a rogue. I want to be a front line combat rogue and to that extent i wanna toss in a little warblade.
I know i could have just went swordsage and been done, but my concept requires a bit more.. oomph I guess. I am planning on dual wielding short swords and want to grab a couple tiger claw and iron heart manuvers. maybe stone dragon as well for the one that immobolizes target, tha just too nifty I think
i have imp initiative and two weapn fighting already as my feats and at lvl 3 i plan on grabbing martial study and grabbing crusader strike so i can heal myself to get some sustain in battle.
my lay out so far in terms of level is thus and im not sure what maneuvers to grab, i want to be more of a lightly armored hard hitting warrior that the big burly guys like a fighter or barbarian. getting in leting lose an attack and geting back out is what I want to do.. I also took the alternate clas feature for rogues that allows them to sneak attack when flanked things that are nomrally immune.

Similarly, if you're considering Crusader's Strike without the crusader recovery method, there's a bigger problem at work here. Finally, your core suggested tactic - getting in, letting loose, getting out - is fundamentally undoable with two-weapon fighting, since doing that technique would take three rounds instead of one or two. You're setting yourself up for a headache.
Meanwhile, Swordsage qualifies you for Shadow Blade, Assassin's Stance, and possibly the Desert Wind boosts, all of which lend themselves beautifully to two-weapon fighting since they augment per-hit damage. Similarly, they have Distracting Ember, letting them flank with themselves. We suggest it because it works.
Don't think of swordsages as lacking oomph. They don't lack it at all.
Also, Penetrating Attack is a lot worse than it seems. For instance, you have Sneak Attack +3d6. Penetrating Attack says that when you flank something that can't be sneak attacked, "you still deal extra damage equal to half your normal sneak attack dice", meaning you'd deal one-half of 3, not one-half of 3d6. |
| #3CheironJun 25, 2014 13:43:57 | 1) i was not aware that iron heart surge and others were rendered moot when dual wilding
2) the stone dragon was a thought, and its more for my groupmates that myself
3) I know that with martials tudy its bascially 1/encounter, but I am thinking if i can just heal myself for 4 or 5 points of damage once an encounter thats better than nothing
4) how does it takes 3 rounds? round 1: i move in and use the tiger claw maneuver (wolf strike i think?) Round 2: I get the hell outta dodge..
5) I thought i mentioned that I do not want to be a swordsage?
6) penetrating strike works exactly how I thought it did. im not illiterate and can read, my thinking is half the dice is better than no dice at all
lemme get my ToB for a minute or 2
ok this is what I had planned in terms of what martial maneuvers to take
at level 3 I have 3 maneuvers known , 3 readied and 1 stance
SO i was thinking of wolf fang strike ( the one where you hit with both weapons as a standard action) Steel wind ( hit 2 guys with 1 attack as a standard) Sudden Leap (jump as a swift action)
and as for my stance I was thinking Bolstering Voice (+2 to will saves +4 to fear)
and of course grabbing Crusader strike so that if I needed to be healed, or anybody else nearby and healing was not availbe well at least I can do this. |

Vital Recovery of course works well also but really the point is, your job is to make the monster incapable of killing you, and then heal. "We need a healer" mentality also assumes monsters kill you by HP damage, and so very few do. |
| #6CheironJun 25, 2014 15:29:06 | Im not 'we need healing e'ry day' or of the player type where my group has a cleric/druid/bard or whatever have nothing but heals loaded up spell wise
I was just thinking at at low level 1d6 +1/2 my initor level would be decent to at least to give me or another party member within 10 feet at least SOME way out of the red if you understand my teminology
this is gonna be for a PbP so leveling is going to be slow. i would imagine 1 level every 6 moths would be a decent speed. so que 2 yars down the road i hit lvl 3 have what? 20 HP total so that 1d6+1 heal if i make a successful attack is 1/3 of MY hp total
So if ail to see how taking a heal that goes off of a successful attack and heals for a semi decent amoutn make sme a retarded player? |
