| #1ronstalwartJan 29, 2012 12:12:13 | Basically the issue im having is the setup for the camp, heres the skinny. Stats: Everyone gets a 12 in all stats and can move them around to your liking, so racial mods don't matter with the exception of caps, 18 being it, but if your an elf perse your max dex would be 20 con would be 16. HP: He runs a vit/wounds system, vit = normal hp, wounds = con score + any toughness feats, crits go straight to wounds, but we all agreed on not using crit whores since it kinda takes the fun out. I'm planning on running 4 cleric, 2 church inquisitor, then change alignments before starting the game, and working on radiant servant of pelor. Going with the divine metamagic, persist spell combo. Just need some help finishing up the char, for stat distribution, and other feats in the future and whatnot. My domains are Healing, Sun, Inquisition. Will take glory at 5th servant. Party setup is dwarf fighter dps, goliath dragon shaman support, druid everything, forgot this guys class and race, human scout ranged dps/support any help would be appreciated, and if any clarification is needed, i'll do my best. Any book or magazine that I show him I can use in game, even if i have a printout or something it counts, just needs proof, i do use ultimate arms and equipment guide, the one that takes all equips from the quintessential series. |
| #2The_FredJan 29, 2012 14:09:19 | You say you can move your stats around as you like. Are you using the standard point buy rules for this? 12 in everything would just be 24PB. Do you mean instead that it's a one-for-one trade (e.g. 18 and 8 is the same as 14 and 12)? I'm not sure I get exactly how your HP system is working either but it sounds like having a decent Con will be a healthy option. About healing: I'm not too keen on Healing as a domain. If you're Good (or Neutral), you can spontaneously convert spells to healing ones anyway, so don't need to clog up your domain slots with them. The +1 CL is not so awesome anyway. If you haven't, find and read that thread about Clerics not needing to heal. Basically there are more efficient ways to go about things, and certainly it's more efficient to dish out a bunch of Cure Light Wounds spells between fights rather than wasting higher-level slots. Note that if you have a Dragon Shaman in your party, you can just get him to take the Vigour aura, and half your healing is done for you. The Sun domain's spells are better, though I find the power underwhelming; however, you need this for RSoP. This party setup has no arcane power and not so much spellcasting generally. Let the Dragon Shaman do the healing - you and the Druid will want to be controlling the field with your awesome spell power. The healing issue is why I'm not so keen on RSoP, but if you want to play one go for it - it's not like you lose much (or anything, I don't think) compared with a straight Cleric so you may as well have the perks. Just don't let your party bully you into being a bandage-carrying medic man. |
| #3ronstalwartJan 29, 2012 15:48:53 | Its not a point buy, its as i say it, 12's in all stats, i can move points freely, no penalty, no point buy, so i could go 18/10/10/10/12/12 and the healing domain i chose was to take advantage of RSoP's empowered and maximize abilities, but i could take that at 5th instead, and Glory now, we are about to head to a Castle of Undead and probably not run into too much of them after. The D shaman does have his aura that heals upto half. The Hp system tho, whatever your HP is normally, like con mod plus HD x Lvl and whatnot is your Vit, he calls it as your ability to not take a bleeding hit, more like you've been scratched and whatnot, or hit your armor. Wounds is Con score plus toughness, when you hit -10 your dead as normal. Its abit different, but works in the end, and if your dropped to wounds, you take 1 dmg a round until healed. I'm not really going as a healstick, i was aiming for buffs and support till i can get righteous might and other abilities i'd love to persist, its why im going RSoP since they give greater turning checks, but I can still usem to power DMM. Its just the stats im unsure on where to place them, skills are kinda stuck, feats im stuck for now, and don't really know where to take it after RSoP. |
| #4draco1119Jan 29, 2012 17:26:28 | Abilities: Str: 13 Dex 10 Con: 10 Int:10 Wis: 16 Cha: 13 Race: Human Starting feats: Extra Turning, Extend Spell Take Persist Spell at level 3, DMM (Persist) at level 6 If you want to Power Attack, take it at level 9. If you don't drop your Str to 12 and raise Wis to 17 to start. At level 4, put your abilty point into Cha, all the rest go into Wis. Make sure you take advantage of Righteous Wrath of the Faithful (morale bonus to hit and damage for all allies within 30'), Divine Power, and Righteous Might a soon as you can (I believe they're all 5th-level spells) You and the druid should be the primary melee damage dealers. Your fighter would be better served trying to start as a Warblade or Crusader and entering the Deepstone Sentinel PrC (all found in ToB). Or better yet, not playing a dwarf and going Lockdown and/or uber-charger. And your Scout should check out the Scout/Ranger handbook that takes advantage of the feat from Complete Chamion that boosts the abilites of both at the same time (I forget the name). |
| #5ronstalwartJan 29, 2012 17:40:09 | not planning on Power attack, was looking at strongheart halfling for race, since it gave bonuses to skills and a free feat, i did forget about the bonus ability point at 4 lol, so thats a good compensation, we all played since level 1, i just absolutely hate my character so we worked a way to get her out and bring this one in. Also what is Righteous Wrath of the Faithful out of? The dwarf is runnin tank probably, the druid actually falls asleep or makes his pet dps, hes an add on, the scout did get that feat, hes workin his scout as best he can. I was thinkin of runnin 2handed weapons and smashin crap, although the thought of a shield does make me smile abit, he does allow dual wielding shields although you technically can't stack bonuses, he allows it if you take a feat to train in the use of both. But yeah thats a great setup otherwise. Also, we don't have a skillmonkey in the group :-( |

But yeah thats a great setup otherwise. Also, we don't have a skillmonkey in the group :-( The Scout/Ranger is the closest thing you guys have to a skillmonkey. It's not necessary that he have Search (at least for finding traps), since rangers and druids have Find Snare as a 1st- or 2nd- level spell, and you have Detect Traps & Pits. He'll still need Disable Device to bypass them, though. Does strongheart halfling have the same versatility in skills and feats as a human? If not, human is a better option. Might be a better option anyway since it's a Medium creature with a base speed of 30'. If you use a 2h weapon, take Power Attack. I would actually recommend a 1h weapon and a Heavy Shield with Shield Gauntlet (RoS). You can't cast spells with a heavy shield, but the gauntlet lets you bypass that. If you do that, take Improved Toughness (CW) at level 9. While we're on equipment: since your Con mod is nil, get armor with as high a Fortification (Light, Moderate, Heavy) mod as you can. Might want to put it on your shield, too. That way, if you get hit with a crit, they have to roll to bypass the fortification twice. Do NOT dual wield shields. ![]() Righteous Wrath of the Faithful is in the Spell Compendium. Also, if one of your teammates dies, don't try to Raise or Ressurect them Use Revenance and Revivify instead. That trick doesn't cause level loss. The dwarf fighter: since he's a dwarf, I assume your teammate is taking the "Heavy armor and stand there menacingly" approach to tanking. If so, he's doing it wrong. Two best ways for a fighter to tank: Lockdown, which denies your opponents actions. Or Uber-charger, which concentrates on dishing a bunch of damage at once. A pure fighter6/crusader2/fighter 12 is actually capable of doing both quite well with the right setup. And a personal favorite of mine is Lester (requires some tweaking, though, since it concentrates on crits). I'll link it tomorrow if Tempest_Stormwind doesn't beat me to it. A slightly less better way to do it (available only to a dwarf) is to start off as a crusader or warblade and enter the Deepstone Sentinel PrC. |
| #7ronstalwartJan 29, 2012 20:30:32 | the halfling gets a bonus feat and bonuses to skills like climb, jump, spot, and so on, like a normal halfing, basically swaps out +1 all saves for a free feat, its from Faerun. for equipment, I was planning on going breastplate, i get a free one from the party, already talked it out with em, night leather armor underneath, mithril skirt, chain tabard, aven tail, beseagues. I'm gonna look into heavy fort, but his enchantment system isn't based on caster and xp and gold = item, its find this magical stone use it to power an item, each stone is worth 10k, each shard is 1k, thats how it works, so 2 shards = +1 weapon and so on. Can do other things like 1 stone= bonus feat. But getting too many stones, he has a hidden preset number, brings stone hunters which basically nullify enchanted items within 10' of them. But they are very very rare to see. For the dwarf, i can't tell him anythin, he doesn't listen, not my prob, but i've always run human, wanted somethin new, but they are just that good lol. We do have a copy of Spell compendium somewhere, of course its lost the instant i wanna read it lol. also what are revenance and revivify from? |

Try to get at least moderate on your armor and light on your shield. And upgrade to fullplate ASAP. ![]() A bonus to climb, jump, and spot (all cross-class skills) is not as useful to you as the extra skill points from being human. You'll want a decent amount of ranks in (at least!) Heal (prereq for Radiant Servant, IIRC), Knowledge (Religion) (and probably Planes and/or Arcana, as well), Concentration, and Spellcraft. Two skill points/level won't get you very far, so a third point every level (and three more on top of that at level 1) will come in very handy. EDIT: Get a nightstick (Libris Mortis) and stuff it in your backpack/pocket/non-other-dimensional storage space. It gives you 3 more turn attempts/day. If your DM allows them to stack (nothing says they can't, but they really shouldn't!) get as many as you can carry. |
| #9ronstalwartJan 29, 2012 22:25:27 | thought nightsticks gave extra turning feat which gives 4 more attempts per day, also you do have a point, human it is, got know religion, spellcraft, heal, arcanna, basicall the prereq's for inquisitor then for radiant servant. guess i could pump some points into concentration, maybe skill trick heal or somethin? the one that when you stabilize it heals 1d6. |
| #10draco1119Jan 29, 2012 22:29:33 | thought nightsticks gave extra turning feat which gives 4 more attempts per day, Sorry, I was thinking Extra Turning was 3/day. Nightsticks don't actually give you the feat, they act like the feat, and still stack with Extra Turning. also you do have a point, human it is, got know religion, spellcraft, heal, arcanna, basicall the prereq's for inquisitor then for radiant servant. guess i could pump some points into concentration, maybe skill trick heal or somethin? the one that when you stabilize it heals 1d6. I don't know anything about skill tricks, so I can't help you there. You NEED concentration if you're going to be doing any casting in combat at all. And, since its key ability is Con, you need as many ranks as possible... |
| #11ronstalwartJan 30, 2012 0:38:02 | alright, that handles about most of my questions, last one would be being a church inquisitor, if i change alignment after entering the Prc, from LG to NG, but it doesn't have an ex-inquistor side bar, i assume i retain all abilities but can't advance anymore in that class? Or can I? |
| #12draco1119Jan 30, 2012 19:47:13 | alright, that handles about most of my questions, last one would be being a church inquisitor, if i change alignment after entering the Prc, from LG to NG, but it doesn't have an ex-inquistor side bar, i assume i retain all abilities but can't advance anymore in that class? Or can I? Actually, according to RAW, I don't think you can even become a Church Inquisitor. Under "Special" prereqs, it says that you "Must be a member of a lawful good church or religious order". Pelor is NG, and doesn't really give a hoot about law/chaos. He's like a hippy: all about life and love. ![]() You might be better off just going Cleric7/Radiant Servant10/Cleric 3. You'll get your full casting and full (+greater!) turning that way. |

| #14Slagger_the_ChuulJan 30, 2012 21:58:37 | Meant it more like I used to be part of a LG church and deity, but changed over to Pelor. Could that be arguable? If you changed over to Pelor, you wouldn't be part of that other church any more and thus wouldn't meet the prerequisite. If you no longer meet the prerequisites for a prestige class, you typically lose access to all the abilities of that class except for those directly related to its Hit Dice (BAB, saves, skill points, hit points). There are a few prestige classes that technically undercut themselves, like the dragon disciple's 10th-level dragon apotheosis ability, but these are presumably just accidents. |
| #15ronstalwartJan 30, 2012 23:22:31 | This is my setup thus far. Domains: Sun (prereq), ? What should I take for this domain and what domains should i choose from RSoP? I'm thinkin Glory now, healing sometime later to take advantage of his empower/maximize. |
| #16Slagger_the_ChuulJan 31, 2012 0:17:04 | For the domains, you should consider whether or not you're taking an alternative class feature like divine magician (from Complete Mage), divine restoration (Dungeonscape), or spontaneous domain casting (PHB2), since they can affect your domains and are chosen at early levels. In brief, divine magician allows you to drop one domain in exchange for some spells from the wizard list (abjuration, divination, and necromancy only), divine restoration allows you to lose a domain's granted power in exchange for spontaneously casting the three grades of restoration spells, and spontaneous domain casting exchanges your normal spontaneous cure casting for spontaneous casting of one of your domains. For example, if you wanted to trade out the usual +1 caster level on healing spells granted by the Healing domain for divine restoration (a decision made at 3rd level), you'd need to take Healing as one of your first two domains. |
| #17ronstalwartJan 31, 2012 11:14:37 | im not familiar with either of those, i heard about devotion feats, they might be an option. But otherwise maybe sun and travel domains? strength and good kinda suck, healing i can take advantage of later in the class, so its not necessary now. |
| #18New-ShadowFeb 01, 2012 16:39:14 | You know, if you're going to be in an Undead heavy game, the Knight of the Raven PrC from Expedition to Castle Ravenloft might be a decent idea. Smite Undead every even level, full BAB, and (very important for you) free Sun Domain at level 3 to name a few things. All you need is +3 BAB, some skill points in a few places, and meet a role-play requirement. As to Domains...refresh my memory, what Domains does Pelor have? Seemed like every book gave various gods new Domains every time a new book came out. I remember Sun and Healing, but when did he get Travel and Strength? |
| #19The_FredFeb 01, 2012 17:49:31 | The vitality system sounds like having a bit more Con would be nice, but you don't really have the points to throw around if you want combat presence. The lack of skills in your party also precludes dumping Int to 8 (though maybe as a human you could get away with it). Otherwise I would suggest something like 14/10/12/8/16/12. It sounds like you want, essentially, to be another frontliner, but if so then Halfling doesn't strike me as a great idea (small size = smaller weapons, and lower Str); Human would also give you much-needed skill ranks, or even allow you to steal 2 points from Int. Just going Crusader (maybe you can dip it effectively without ruining your Cleric progression, I don't really know) might be more appropriate, too. However, since your party has, essentially, 3 frontliners (maybe call the Druid and/or Dragon Shaman support, but still) and 1 ranged, that might not be the best thing to do. You don't have any arcane casters, you might find some use in the Magic domain, which lets you use items as if you were a Wizard (of half your Cleric level). This way you can essentially be the party caster; Clerics don't necessarily have as good battlefield control and direct damage spells as Wizards, but you can shore up your weaknesses with item use. Contemplative is then a nice PrC for a bonus domain and Slippery Mind at L2. The Divine Oracle is another less combat-orientated PrC with the Oracle Domain at L1 and a better Evasion at L2. Both are from Complete Divine. For an undead-heavy campaign, though, I like the Doomguide from Faiths and Pantheons (you have to follow Kelemvor though so you can't take it with RSop, sadly). |
| #20aelryinthFeb 01, 2012 18:42:04 | Stacking Fortification will not work. It's a field of force stopping the crit, not just a flat roll. Like concealment doesn't stack with itself, and resist energy 30 and 20 don't stack, fortification won't stack. So, you only need to Fortify one item. a very good thing in a wound/vit system, however. ==Aelryinth |
| #21Slagger_the_ChuulFeb 01, 2012 23:35:30 | As to Domains...refresh my memory, what Domains does Pelor have? Seemed like every book gave various gods new Domains every time a new book came out. I remember Sun and Healing, but when did he get Travel and Strength? The PHB lists Pelor's domains as Good, Healing, Strength, and Sun. I don't recall any books adding additional core domains to deities (they might have added newly-created domains, though). |
| #22ronstalwartFeb 13, 2012 10:10:13 | Alright, thankyou all for the great responses and whatnot, i appreciate all the help with this build. Now the last item which was brought to my attention is starting items, the dm gave me 2 choices. Choice one is starting gold plus 2 worldstones, (worldstones count as 10k gp of magical enhancements, they can also mimic certain abilities like fast heal and whatnot, but its his call so no super BA abilities sneak in.) the second choice is 3 legacy items, he asks a few questions and builds them for you, its all custom, so it follows the basic principles of legacy weapons and armor but changes the effects. I'm personally thinking the starting and worldstones since those are gurenteed static benefits, as opposed to getting 3 items that could screw me over. |
