| #1falrinApr 28, 2008 13:35:05 | Books: Spells only core, Feats all 3.5, PrCs all if full LvLs are taken. LvL: 13th. Race: Probably Dwarf. Campaign: City of the Spider Queen. In the Underdark with lots of undead and drow around. Party: An Archer fighter/ranger, A blaster (yes) mage and a straight fighter My prefered role: Keep the party alive . I don't want to be the huge, buffed dire bear slicing through every encounter. I do want to support the party, ascpecially the fighter (who will really need this) and slice through the encounter when needed. I don't mind dumping my animal companion or spontanious summons for a good PrC. Wildshape and spells are still prefered. (Do it'll propably druid 20 in the end ) So I mostly need help with possible PrCs, good spells (never played a druid before) and feat selection. Feats: 1 Spell Focus Conj 3 Aug Summon 6 Natural Spell 9 Extend Spell 12 15 Improved initiative, Companion Spellbond All help apriciated. |
| #2xoraxxApr 28, 2008 13:50:59 | Feats: Those feats look good, other good feats are Rashemei Elemental Summoning (UE), Greenbound Summoning (LEoF), Ashbound (ECS),Augment Elemental (MoE) As for good druid PrC's I dont know of that much, besides Planar Shephard (Way to broken though.. located in FoE) and Moonspeaker (MoE but Shifter only and gives up 4 levels of wildshape) |
| #3loganic1Apr 28, 2008 14:00:20 | Look up the Planar shepherd. Pick one of the following abilities to be applied in small areas allow your allies to take 10x the number of actions. Time hop etc |
| #4moodyApr 28, 2008 18:04:12 | Don't want to step on the fighters toes huh? Yeah, they get there ego hurt when you get big and grapple them to death. Another way to go is to buff up your animal companion. I took the feat Companion Spellbond from the phb2, extends share spells ability. |
| #5logicninjaApr 28, 2008 18:30:53 | Look up the Planar shepherd. For Chrissake, why do people even bother recommending this for actual games? "Go ahead and let your allies take 10x the number of actions. I'm sure the DM won't mind and your game will be just fine." No, DON'T take Planar Shepherd. It's ridiculous and should never have been published. --- Companion Spellbond (PHBII) is definitely a good feat--lets you share spells and not have to be next to your companion. Wall of Thorns is potent area control. Are there plants in the module? Big mushrooms around, maybe? That makes Entangle and Plant Growth viable. Shared buffs with companion (barkskin, greater magic fang, etc), Summon Nature's Ally, Animal Growth the summon and the companion. |
| #6nightwyrmApr 28, 2008 18:48:08 | Forget about PrCs. Druid is the best druid PrC (other than the brokenness that is the planar shepard). |
| #7falrinApr 29, 2008 5:31:03 | Companion spellbond seems nice. I might note that my DM only allows the 'first LvL choices' for animal companions since he saw the fighter cry when a fleshraker walked through a horde that just downed him. Maybe I'll add improved initiative when I can spare the slot. What about Vermin Keeper from "the underdark". I like the theme and might build further in Vermin thing, but I'm afraid vermins won't cut it in a fight. I'll assume here my DM allows Animal Buffs on Vermin. Any good metamagic feats I lookd over? |
| #8goram_browncoatApr 29, 2008 9:35:05 | Companion spellbond seems nice. I might note that my DM only allows the 'first LvL choices' for animal companions since he saw the fighter cry when a fleshraker walked through a horde that just downed him. You can still take a tiny viper, give it the appropriate feats from serpent kingdoms (spit poison and poison spray), cast venomfire on it and have it spray a cone of acid for xd6 acid every round without spell resistance and i think (but not sure) without a save for half too Offcourse thatll only make the evoker cry, and he should already be crying for being an evoker. |

I might note that my DM only allows the 'first LvL choices' for animal companions since he saw the fighter cry when a fleshraker walked through a horde that just downed him. i wasn't aware crying was on the fighter bonus feat list, limiting your animal companions is stupid, as is playing a pure fighter with no prcs or battlefield controll tactics |
| #10songnsilenceApr 29, 2008 10:29:02 | i wasn't aware crying was on the fighter bonus feat list, limiting your animal companions is stupid, as is playing a pure fighter with no prcs or battlefield controll tactics Strange, how the feat "great numbercruncher" can be only bought with the flaw "socially unaware" :D j/k But seriously, if you don't play in a party of optimized characters, don't use your full potential. This way, everyone can contribute, the DM thinks the party is challenged, and everyone is happy. Its always nice to know you could win the average battle on your own easily, but don't do it ! Otherwise, the other players feel as useless as they are, the DM will create TPK(-1) encounters, and everyone will hate you... |
| #11gavinfoxxApr 29, 2008 10:38:57 | You CAN play a Planar Shepherd, but you don't HAVE to use all the abilities, and it shouldn't be that hard to design a plane or tweak some of the abilities to keep the flavor without making it, you know, as overpowered as it is by default... for example, the planar bubble thing doesn't HAVE to have the time effect, with tweaking. And you don't HAVE to allower templated magical beasts -- you can only use native ones. And as far as wild shaping into elementals and outsiders, you could pick from a LIST of extraordinary, supernatural and spell-like abilities listed in the tweaked class, where you can have ONE of those, if the creature has that ability... like you could choose SR, but limited by planar shepherd level, resistance to one or two elemental types, limited by planar shepherd level, darkvision, dr, limited by level, etc. Its not TOO hard to tweak the P.S. |
| #12nightwyrmApr 29, 2008 10:47:49 | Strange, how the feat "great numbercruncher" can be only bought with the flaw "socially unaware" :D j/k +1 This is how I play my wizards and druids. I concentrate on buffs, debuffs and battlefield control, and let everyone else do the killing. The others are having fun slaughtering stuff while I sit back in my evil overlord pose and watch my fellow PC minions do the dirty work. :D |
| #13moodyApr 29, 2008 22:23:51 | Only the first lvl Companions? That sucks. They're basicly useless. I wouldn't even bother keeping one. And I agree that the fleshraker is broken. I ban them from my games, but the other animals in the phb are fine. |
| #14zillahApr 29, 2008 22:40:16 | 1 level cleric. planning domain for extend spell for free. augment healing feat ASAP. /random version of mass vigor. congrats. you just gave the party fast healing of the spell +2 per level per round doubled for 1 spell slot. divine metamagic extend. get some nightsticks. augment healing is sooooooooo sexy |
| #15gavinfoxxApr 30, 2008 14:24:40 | Nightstick. It's singular now. Check the sage ruling. ![]() |
| #16indeterminateApr 30, 2008 15:03:56 | Nightstick. It's singular now. Check the sage ruling. The sage ruling is not official errata and even if it was it amounts to "check with your DM". |
