| #1casualgathererJun 08, 2009 20:26:40 | First, Character Creation looks like this: Show Starting level 13, 40PB. Max HP. WBL as normal. If your character uses Persist Spell or takes levels in DweomerKeeper/Incantatrix/Shadowcraft Mage. They are too powerful. If they are a full caster with other PrCs, they are fine. If they can compete on that level, they are fine. Polymorph doesn't exist. If you have an LA race you want to play, let me know and I'll tell you what it counts as/changes to reduce it's LA. Also tell me what you like about it and why you want it. As for the plot. A crazy dungeon has appeared that ate several level 9-11 parties without a trace. You guys are people who want to look into this for whatever reason. This dungeon is hardcore. It takes into account things like teleport/earthglide/X ray vision/ect. Instead of arbitrarily banning them like WLD or that one FR mountain. Almost forgot: Feats: Two flaws at level 1 (technically optional, but whatever) two feats at level 1. One at every odd level after. Yes, Humans suck with this. But there are enough other races to choose from. |
| #2lormadorJun 08, 2009 20:37:27 | I made a Soulbow a little while ago and did things a little differently. There's a variant of Fighter from one of the Dragon mags, it's called Targeteer. It gets Dexterity to damage with ranged attacks, subject to a distance limitation, and the target must be able to be critically hit. It's precision damage. If this option is taken, one might wish to reconsider Zen Archery since one will have a high Dexterity anyway. It's only going to be a few points until Tomes of X come into play, and even then only for a narrow level range. Rapid Shot is nice, but I found my Soulbow only using it on round 1, because after that she would usually want to refocus to put out another (Greater) Psionic Shot. What does work really well with Combat Meditation and those psionic damage increasing feats, is Manyshot. Check out the feats, using Greater Manyshot with Greater Psionic Shot might add +4d6 to all of the mind arrows. If you can get Splitting, two stats to damage, and +4d6 to all the arrows, your damage output will be the envy of all but pouncing chargers and 1d2 Crusaders. |
| #3mathias1313Jun 08, 2009 20:44:41 | I'm pretty suer the wording for psionic shot and greater psionic shot limits its use to Many shot, not greater many shot. And it only gets applied once. Dont have my books at the moment tho |
| #4casualgathererJun 08, 2009 20:48:44 | I can still take 2 flaws (Noncombatant?) and pick up Manyshot and Greater Manyshot with little shifting of feats. Where is Greater Manyshot? |
| #5sofawallJun 08, 2009 20:50:28 | If you can get Splitting, two stats to damage, and +4d6 to all the arrows, your damage output will be the envy of all but pouncing chargers and 1d2 Crusaders. Swift Hunters disagree with you. EDIT: Especially with the relics from MiC. The auto-bane and comp-longbow that auto-adjusts to your str. I forget the names, sorry. |
| #6casualgathererJun 08, 2009 20:56:43 | :P Also, equipment. Currently i have like... a +6 Periapt of Wisdom, for +3 to hit and damage and will saves, and some armour and a cloak of displacement (yes, minor.) Any better options? |
| #7lormadorJun 08, 2009 21:14:10 | Swift Hunters disagree with you. Ah yes, I forgot about them. How could I be so silly? Not to mention leaving the casters out of it. |
| #8sofawallJun 08, 2009 21:23:09 | Well, if you include casters thing start turning silly. Come on, what can keep up with 22 negative levels per round? |
| #9SwordDiscipleJun 08, 2009 21:25:26 | Swift Hunters disagree with you. I got you Sofa :D BOW OF THE RAPTOR ARROW |
| #10sofawallJun 08, 2009 21:47:43 | Thanks. I'm actually playing a swift hunter with those right now, and it's rocking the socks of everyone. Of course, my DM ruled that if mounted, and your mount moves, it counts as if YOU moved, so I don't have to do any shenanigans to full-attack with Skirmish :D (P.S. Phantom Steeds rock!) |
| #11casualgathererJun 08, 2009 23:16:03 | :P But i don't need arrows or a bow... Is there any way to increase DAMAGES without going into Swift Hunter? I could, but it wouldn't be too great. |
| #12SenevriJun 09, 2009 1:32:59 | Incarnum. I find Psionic Shot to be somewhat... lackluster, myself. You could try getting to Illumine Soul for a bit of accelerated Psychic Strike. I am not entirely sure if +4 to hide & ms, improved darkvision, immunity to fatigue, tremorsense and ability to teleport are worth 7 HW levels... They could be, I'm not sure. |
| #13casualgathererJun 09, 2009 9:04:33 | Well, looking at my current build, I shoot 8 arrows per round which deal 1d6+9 in a 60' line. The first 2 deal +4d6. If within 30' of the first target, everything has +1 to damage. With Rapid Shot, which is -2 to each shot... To hit is somewhere around +20/+20/+15/+10. Now, Manyshot gives huge penalties, but I apparently have huge bonuses. Manyshot lets me get off 4(?) arrows as a standard action, at -6 for each. However, it might just let me get GPS on all my arrows, for 5d6+9 in a 60' line. The to hit drops somewhere around +17/+17/+12/+7. Do i really need more damage doing 8d6+72 damage a round? (in a 60' line, without reducing damage.) |
| #14BalthanonJun 09, 2009 15:57:24 | If you insert enough levels of a martial adept class, you can pick up the Giant's Stance stance. That will bump your damage from 1d8 for each arrow to 2d6-- and you can pick up Dancing Mongoose as well for an additional 2 attacks. If you want to do that at 13th level, you would need an initiator level of 9, so 8 non-martial adept levels (4 IL) + 5 martial adept (IL). I used the below build for a soulbow that I created. I liked the idea of having a character that just stood on high ground (created by the character with Mountain Stance) and shot down on everyone around me. It was one of the few effective uses of Dwarven Defender I could find. ![]() |
| #15SenevriJun 09, 2009 16:09:23 | Re: Need more damage? Probably not, in an ordinary game. At 20th level, I expect a character to do 200ish vs. a single target, but your ability to AoE may very well be enough to cover the lesser damage. ToB definitely > Horizon Walker. Ranger 2 is still a nice entry for Warblade + Bloodclaw + Bloodstorm |
| #16james_moriartyJun 09, 2009 16:28:04 | Well, looking at my current build, I shoot 8 arrows per round which deal 1d6+9 in a 60' line. sry for a stupid question, but how do you get the penetrating shot on all of your attacks? |
| #17casualgathererJun 09, 2009 18:14:03 | Well, right now... I do 72 damage +8d6 to everyone in a line. Thats an average of 100 damage, a minimum of 80. That'll kill enough mooks. Probably put quite a dent in most BBEGs, although with DR 5/anything not magic, it drops significantly. Even Manyshot with it's huge penalties aint to bad to hit, since i have a huge +8 for wisdom right now, along with +11/+6/+1. The single level of Warblade is good though. I'll take it in a couple levels, getting Giants Stance along with a couple goodies. Iron Heart Surge? It'll raise my damage to 1d8, getting me up to something like 112 damage average once i get there. Is it worth moving up to medium size? Oh, and Penetrating Shot can replace any and all ranged attacks. |
| #18BalthanonJun 09, 2009 18:28:29 | For items, you might want to look at some of the mind blade items in the Magic Item Compendium-- Admantine Mind Blade Gauntlets and the various kinds of Mind Blade Gauntlet. For Penetrating Shot-- the feat actually takes a standard action to use normally. It doesn't replace your attack action. |
| #19lormadorJun 09, 2009 20:47:40 | for the Soulbow Dwarven Defender. That was awesome. |
| #20BalthanonJun 09, 2009 22:53:47 | Thanks. I've never gotten to play the character unfortunately, but I would love to sometime-- just haven't found the right game. |
