| #1phil500Apr 28, 2010 14:25:23 | Im coming from 4E so im a bit overwhelmed by the choices in 3.5. im joining a group at level 3, and i doubt i will play this character past level 8 or 9. I want to play a dwarvern battlecleric who fights until he needs to heal. I dont necessarily need to optimize but would like my guy to be pretty good at mellee and healing. prefer to stay pure "cleric" in that i dont want to splash a non caster but it seems there are a lot of classes that are cleric like. which should i be on the lookout for? how do i avoid spending standard actions self/group buffing? I heard something about divine metamagic+extra turns- should I look to quicken spells or persistant? thanks. |

The first step in avoiding spending actions in combat on healing is to fully heal everyone between combats. A wand of lesser vigor (caster level 1) costs 750 gp and is good for a total of 550 HP restored (11 per charge). The touch of healing feat (Complete Champion) gives you an at-will healing ability that only functions on creatures with fewer than ½ HP. This serves as a good first step for out of combat healing, since it does not consume resources. |

Need to be a 5th-level cleric (IIRC); gives full BAB and 1/2 caster progression, with a few SLA buffs, and an extra domain. Oh, and the trick you're referring to is DMM-Persist, with a persisted mass vigor (24hr fast healing zone centered on you) -- just needs to burn 7 turn attempts/day. Also, for martial-oriented clerics, you'll want to persist stuff like Rightious Might (once you get access to it, of course -- Divine Power before that). |

Ice Axe seems like a decent low level spell to persist, especially if you can apply some other metamagic to it for free as well somehow. A lesser rod of maximize would let you increase the damage to 1.5x2d12, which is an average of about 20 points per swing, as a touch attack. At 9,000 gp, that's fairly affordable. Before you can afford the MM rod, 13 damage per swing as a touch attack is pretty good. |
