I'm going to be playing in a new Eberron campaign that's starting characters around 6th or 7th level, and I was interested in trying out the Elocator. The party already has an Artificer/Cannith Wand Adept and Ranger in the mix.

I was thinking of perhaps taking on the social/face role of the party, so I'd want Gather Information, Diplomacy, Sense Motive, and Bluff, and enough skill points to keep them useful. Balance, Hide, Move Silently, and Tumble are also desired. And I definitely want some Psionic ability, preferably in the form of self-enhancement or utility powers (I'm not big on the mind control concept).

I was thinking of doing just a straight Psychic Rogue 10/Elocator 10, but I'm sure people on this board can offer better suggestions, so let me hear 'em!

There aren't any book restrictions, but I don't want to do anything "cheesy". 28 point buy. Not sure on wealth, but I imagine between 13k and 19k.

No one has any opinions or advice on how best to create a Face with trapfinding that has psychic abilities?

It's OK, I guess, but I wonder if rogue/egoist (or seer, or telepath) won't be an overall better idea. Psychic rogues are good by themselves, but I don't think their PP progression is good enough to merit boosting by a PrC. Something like rogue2/psion 4/ or rogue 4/psion 2, should be a decent start. I think you could add in a touch of Shadowmind, but I'm not sure how it works out in practice. In general, I presume rogue/psion will have an edge in psionics, psychic rogue in actual, well, rogue tricks. I'm not sure how psi-rogue/psion works; keep in mind that the difference between 4 levels of rogue and psi-rogue isn't that big.

BTW, check out the Mind's Eye articles for more details. I loved the article "Getting Wired" that deals with extra psionic tattoos... it has great potential.

Well, I've been looking at this a bit more, and I was thinking of something like the following:

Human
S:9/D:15/C:10/I:16/W:9/Ch:14
PsyRogue 8/Swashbuckler 5/Elocator 7

1. Psychic Rogue, Dodge, TWF
2. Swashbuckler, Weapon Finesse
3. Psychic Rogue, Evasion, Mobility
4. Swashbuckler, +1 DEX
5. Psychic Rogue, Danger Sense
6. Elocator, Spring Attack, Sidestep Charge, Scorn Earth
7. Psychic Rogue

I'm not entirely clear on when you choose your feat versus when you level up. I might have to wait for 7th level to take Elocator. Or, my DM may allow me to replace SA for Bonus Feats like a regular Rogue. I'm not sure if a 2d6 SA is worth having or not (unlikely I'd actually make it to 20th level, at which point it'd reach 3d6)... it could be useful with Flanker and Capricious Step and a full attack with TWF.

Given the above, at 7th level I'd have a ML of 5, yielding three 1st level powers and one 2nd, with 27 PP and a BAB of +6/+1. And access to all the skills I'm interested in.

I'd like a mobile striker/skill monkey with some utility powers than a more focused psionic character.

Ardent is the way to go, if you are losing ANY caster(-fester) levels, and Practised Manifester.
You could lose one more ML, and still have full -festing.

Basic : Rogue 1 or Psi-Rogue 1 / Ardent X into / Elocater 10 / finish Ardent
Better : find something to help get Spring Attack quicker ... or dirty-er.

More Skilly : Go for the Incarnum version of Psi/Inc double caster, and get Trapfinding that way, because ... you know that Thieves are Evul, and it's good to kill them, and take their misbegotten stuff, especially when you have Trapfinding anyway at 6th level.

Human rogue (feat variant) 2/psion (telepath) 6/elocator 7/slayer 5 with Able Learner and Practiced Manifester. Those that you can't bluff, you can dominate. Have fun.

Turns out the Artificer is going to handle the Trapfinding/Disarming duties, so I'm not constricted by that. I do still want a skill monkey that utilizes Elocator effectively.

How does the Psion [Telepath] make use of the abilities of the Elocator? Particularly Flanking and Opportunistic Strike +4. Seems like all the Psion is really getting out of the deal is Scorn Earth, but he could just use Levitate when desired.

There is a Psion/Rogue/Elocater build of mine at the end of this post in the Psion Handbook that is similiar to what Nibbler suggests. I describe level by level how to use the character. Someone suggested that Feat Rogue 2/Psion 6 might be a better entry when I originally posted it.

The DM just granted everyone Able Learner, and condensed Move Silently/Hide into Stealth, and Spot/Listen into Perception.

I really want an Elocator with Sneak Attack, so I've opted against the Psion [Telepath] style build.

I've narrowed down to three options:

Using the Synad race (Human is off-limits), I could try:
28 Point Buy
S: 10, D: 16, C: 12, I: 14, W: 8, Ch: 12

Fighter 1/Psychic Rogue 5/Elocator 1/Psychic Rogue 2/Elocator 6/Psychic Rogue 5
ML 17, Powers Known: 13, Max Power Level: 5th,
BAB +15, SA +4d6
Mind Cripple or Shadow Jump
ECL 1: Two Weapon Fighting (Fighter)
ECL 1: Dodge
ECL 3: Mobility
ECL 6: Spring Attack
ECL 9: Weapon Finesse

I really love the Swashbuckler's first 3 levels... any opinions on this?
S: 10, D: 16, C: 10, I: 16, W: 8, Ch: 12

Swashbuckler 3/Psychic Rogue 4/Elocator 1/Psychic Rogue 3/Elocator 6/Psychic Rogue 3
ML: 15, Powers Known: 12, Max Power Level: 4th
BAB +15, SA +4d6
Insightful Strike
ECL 1: Weapon Finesse (Swashbuckler)
ECL 1: Dodge
ECL 3: Mobility
ECL 6: Spring Attack
ECL 9: Two Weapon Fighting

Or as a Kalashtar
28 Point Buy

Psychic Rogue 6/Elocator 1/Psychic Rogue 1/Elocator 6/Psychic Rogue 6

BAB +14, SA +5d6
Mind Cripple or Shadow Jump
