Help with level 5 Gestalt builds?

The setting is Rokugan from Oriental Adventures, the Level is 5, gestalt characters. I've rolled the stats 17/16/13/12/12/12.

I asked previously about a scout//warlock, and I'm pleased with the results, but the DM is expecting us to try and break the system, so I have some alternate characters that I'm considering presenting. I'm new at CharOp, so I don't know if these are actually stronger or cooler.

My first idea is a Sorcerer/Shugenja. While it's obviously not RAI, I'm pretty sure the DM will let me take Mystic Theurge starting at fifth level to up the spell casting of both classes. It's that type of game. So the question is, what do I take on the other side to boost the Sorcerer/Shugenja? Monk seemed flavorful to me, but is there a better mechanical choice? Would I be better off taking the Sorcerer through its own prestige classes and just hanging on to the Shugenja as backup spells? If so, what classes? Despite the nature of the game, he likes roleplay a lot, so in the Rokugan setting I can't be a gnome for shadowcraft mage, nor do I think he'd allow incantatrix.

Another idea is Ratling (+2 Con, -2 Cha) Totemist/Incarnate with Vow of Poverty. Admitedly this doesn't buy me much at only level 5, but I'm keeping an eye on the future. It's a calculated risk because I don't know how free he's going to be with magic items. I'm pretty sure I can sell it as a flavor of Ratling sorcerer. EDIT: I've thought about it and this is a dumb idea. The classes overlap too much. I was too focused on the doubled Chakra Binds and didn't think about all the other soulmelds I'd be wasting.

Is there any other idea I should consider that could in some way be construed as appropriate for Rokugan?

Also, I'm as much if not more interested in feat selection, tactics, and skill choices over just what PrC to take at each level.

Thank you for all your help.

What books are allowed in your game? Are there any house rules? What specifically are the prohibited materials in your game? What role do you wish to fill in your group or pursue in the story? What level will the campaign run to?

Need more info if you want more help.

I just realized how much I don't know about this campaign. Expect to see this thread revived from the dead in a few days.

I apologize for wasting your time.
