| #1gresshSep 23, 2008 0:59:51 | Hail to all you CO boards residents! Often have I visited these boards to learn from your wisdom, and I think it has helped make me better at designing less poor characters. However, I have a request that I would like to make. I'm playing in a friends campaign in a couple of weeks, in which I would like to play a sorcerer (mainly because I never have). Characters for this campaign are gestalt, with the following rule: No 2 classes may be taken from the same book at the same time e.g Monk1//Sorcerer1 is not allowed, but Monk1//Swordsage1 Swordsage+1//Sorcerer1 is allowed (did that make sense?) So I was thinking sorcerer, with metamagic feats (empower and maxamise) + cheaper metamagic (arcane thesis + practical metamagic) and some combination of good PrC for sorc on one side, and on the other, something with Pally 2/ Monk 1 (maybe 2 if evasion is worth it) + the feat that lets you use Cha for AC instead of Wis for monk. Basically, I was trying to get as much millage out of my charisma as possible. However, not ever having played a sorcerer before, I am not sure what PrC's are good for them. I was thinking about taking my thesis spell as Wings of Flurry (+ Disintergrate if enough feats) All books are allowed + up to 2 flaws. Only exception is that there is no psionics in this world (feats from XPH are ok as long as they are not psionic feats). Starting level is lvl 6, but starting gold is very limited (4kgp) So, would anyone be able to help me here? My starting idea on the sorc side is to take the dragonblood sorc sub lvl from RotD at 1st, then the minimum sorc levels needed before I can PrC out. For the other side, not so much idea at the start, with only the idea of Pally 2 and Monk 1(2) after I PrC out. Cheers, Gressh Edit: Forgot to mention that all templates are not allowed, as are most LA races. a couple are allowed (drow and some others) In case it makes a gifference, LA buyoff is allowed |

If so, Hexblade 4/Paladin of Tyranny 3 would give you charisma twice to most saves, and also -4 to the saves of anyone near you. Some Binder would then let you bind Foculor, giving -6 to saves. | #3gresshSep 23, 2008 2:19:45 | Wow, shadowcraft mage looks really good. Binder also looks pretty nice, and is definatly worth looking further into. About evil, I'm not sure. It may be allowed if I can come up with a good enough reason / backstory for it. Thanks for the suggestions Gressh |
| #4bykeSep 23, 2008 7:11:03 | If you can't be evil but want an Anti-Hero/Dark Knight kind of feel, with Charisma synergy, you could try Paladin 4/Boneknight 1/Hexblade 3/Boneknight 9/X 3. |
| #5ninjarabbitSep 23, 2008 11:49:43 | Hexblade works nicely as does the marshal and warlock for cha synergy. I'd probably go marshal2/hexblade4 to start out. |
| #6gresshSep 24, 2008 1:43:31 | So I've had a think about this, and I settled with the following: Marshal 2/Hexblade 4/ Paladin of Tyranny 3/ Binder 11 on one side With Sorc 4/Spellsword 1/Abjurant Champion 5/Shadowcraft Mage5/X 5 on the other. Playing as a gnome to qualify for Shadowcraft Mage. I think I can manage to get the required Feats + skills to enter the PrC's at the right time. What would make a good round off to the caster side? I was trying not to lose any caster levels. I looked at Incantrix and Shadow Adept, thoughts on either? Or any other class that might be better? Cheers, Gressh |
| #7natenateSep 24, 2008 3:47:12 | Hexblade and Spellsword are in the same book, you're taking both at level 5. You also don't meet the BAB requirement for Spellsword by the time you're taking it. Shadowcrafter from Underdark combines superbly with Shadowcraft Mage. You probably want at least 7 levels of it, preferrably 9, and you'll also want to max Shadowcraft Mage as early as possible. One side of your build should look like Sorcerer (and full casting PrCs) 6/ Shadowcrafter 2/ Shadowcraft Mage 5/ Shadowcrafter 7. The tenth level of Shadowcrafter isn't even worth having, but the other nine you can't really go without. Check the Spell Compendium for a decent 3rd level Illusion (Shadow) spell to qualify you for it. |
| #8gresshSep 24, 2008 4:27:27 | Ah, dang about the Hexblade and Spellsword. Thanks for pointing that out to me. Looking at what I wrote down when crafting this, I took Hexblade 1/Marshal 2/ Hexblade 2 in that order. Vs the other side of Sorc 4 it should have given me enough bab (unless my understanding was wrong). However, I must have typed it up wrong. Thanks for the suggestion on the caster side, am just looking at the Shadowcrafter now, and it looks pretty nice. A question though, will the enhanced shadow evocations and conjurations from shadowcrafter stack with the powerful shadow magic ability from shadowcraft mage? for an increase of 40%? I assume that they do, given your assertion that they combine well. For the other side I will probably go with JaronK and ninjarabbit's suggestion of some combination of marshal + hexblade + paladin of tyranny. To round out (or add to) that side, warlock or binder? Or some other class that is as good or better? Cheers, Gressh edit: Am I right in thinking, that if I was to do some meeleing as well, that stats would be Cha>Con>Str=Dex>Int=Wis? |
| #9SenevriSep 24, 2008 13:24:35 | Hm. ToB is good. So I'd go on one side Sorc5/FiendBlooded9/X6 and on the other, Crusader5/Paladin2/JPM10/FiendBlooded1, then pick the last FB level while picking something full-caster on the other side. This is presuming your DM reads text over table as they're supposed to... Fiend-blooded, despite the steep pre-reqs, is one of the best sorcerer prestige classes, IMO. |
