Help with old Stalker Build.

Jul 16, 2009 14:24:12 A long time ago (2003) this build was posted here at the boards. It's the Stalker of Evil by FarKadeNear (link in the library as well).

Well, my DM's starting a new campaign and I asked him about this build and he accepted. The problem is that I don't think it's very optimized.
Sooo, I ask the fellow members a bit of hand in order to get this archer doing some nice damage (books allowed and character guidelines at the bottom)

The campaign is a military one and some rules of Heroes of Battle will be employed. The party consists of a fighter/tempest and a vow of poverty monk/cleric/radiant servant of Pelor. Concerning the other two characters, the responsability is mine to create. As I wanted to play that stalker kind of character, the 4th member (which will a NPC, by the way) is a elf rogue/wizard/arcane trickster.

I know that the characters are not very optimized, but my DM wouldn't enjoy so many cheesy characters

Books allowed: PHB 3.5, DMG 3.5, MM 3.5, Races, Completes, Exalted, Heroes of Battle. Other could be added at the DM discretion, though.
Starting level: 4th.
28 pt. buy
Gold: 5400gp.

BTW: I don't think we'll reach the higher leves, so the build has to be something playable since the mid levels.

Alternatively, I could play another type of character if it would suit the group best. In this case, I'd like to play an arcane caster of some sort (warmage and wizard-like could be a solution).

If, there would be some levels to play with.
Maybe make it kind of a Swift Hunter and toss in Greater Manyshot.

Jul 16, 2009 15:18:43 If you can use the "old" version of Hunter's Mercy, it lets you get an automatic hit and critical threat on your next shot, and it is a swift action to cast, and only a 1st level spell. You can stick that in a wand, and put it in a wand chamber, and get one free auto-hit and threat per round cheaply. Since the Favored Enemy bonus is multiplied on a crit, this would be nice for this kind of build.

You can also combine this with an Oil of Bless Weapon added to your arrows to make it automatically hit and crit.

Jul 18, 2009 21:26:02 Well, technically the ACF fav. enemy (spellcaster) should work with foe hunter, but since I'll be fighting evil creatures, the SoK fav. enemy (evil) is a better choice IMO ;)

I didn't do the math yet, but I guess a full attack has a better damage output in this kind of build. I'll try to catch some advice on the swift hunter handbook. And

Also, I'll check the viability of Hunter's Mercy with my DM. Today the others players told me that I couldn't use the Races book...
