I actually love the picture of the mystic theruge and the idea behind the class seems like a good one, but when you actually play it problems arise.

As many of you know, losing high level spells to gain many more low levels spells is generally not a good thing...

So I was wondering if anyone knew any PRC's that were mystic theruge similar but a bit better.

Or does anyone know a way to make the mystic theruge a bit of a better prestige class or should it just be completely ignored?

Arcane heirophant (races of the wild)

I thought races of the wild was 3.0.. IF so then I cannot use it, it has to be 3.5

There is a reason (other than Wizards insane greed) for them to turn 3.0 into 3.5 =)

Any other suggestions?

Races of the Wild is 3.5... You're thinking Masters of the Wild, which is 3.0

According to the Crystalkeep index, the dual casting prestige classes are:

> Arcane Hierophant – hybrid arcane caster / druid.
> Fochlucan Lyrist – a bard / druid / rogue, who acts as a spy, poet, & woodland champion.
> Green Whisperer – a combination bard & druid whose music is especially effective against animals & eventually plants.
> Mystic Theurge – a combined arcane & divine spellcaster.
> Yathrinshee – specialty priest of the Drow Deity of Undeath & Revenge.

PS: Races of the Wild was published in 2005 and thus 3.5

MT works if you use Illuminan (improved sigil- the one that lts you cast spells one level higher)Wiz1/Clr3/MT?/True Necro?

ends up BAB 10 and 8th level arcane/9th level divine
Take practised spellcaster Wiz for 20th lvl arcane caster/17th level divine.

Works just fine.

You could do:

Wizard 1 (PA)/ Druid 3
Mystic Thuerge 1
Arcane Hierophant 10
Mystic Thuerge 5

Gives Wizard 17 / Druid 19... If you give up your familiar for an immediate magic at level 6 you could take the Obtain Familiar feat all those levels will stack for the familiar, grab natural bond, and the Animal companion end holds up too.

Overview of the Mystic Thurge:

"Mostly harmless"
-Adrach man-killer, Orc chiftain

As for the questinon, its not a PrC, but the Archivist does pretty much exactly what the MT does with no loss of spell levels.

Technically you don't get all the spells per day though Bergtann. A small point but some people feel they need 10 spells per spell level per day.

That is true. You trade them for spells 1-2 levels higher plus good class abilities. Possibly an issue if you DM likes extreme marathon sessions, but I suspect the Archivist is still better off.

If you use druid with arcane hierophant and mystic theurge you don't have to lose anything, IF precocious apprentice is used. If not then you still end up with 9th level spells in each class. (3 wizard/ 3 druid/ 10 Arcane Hiero/ 4 Mystic theurge == 17 wizard/17 druid).

BUT that is predicated on using druid for your divine class.

...if u choose PrC with a faster progression like Ur-Priest + SC 8 levels of MT grants u both divine and arcane 9th level spells..i really don't see the problem as i said before....

Like any other combo for MT the Ur priest still has a limit: you have to be evil, other than that it's a good build.

In the end you just have to choose what limit you can accept, lower spell level, being evil, or druid instead of cleric.

The problem is that you are way behind the rest of the party until at least level 15 or so.

If you start play at level 16, then yes, great... until then, you're a character with odd low-level-only casting.

That makes Ur-Priest and SC strong, not MT.

I like Bard 2 / Druid 3 / Green Whisperer 4 / Arcane Hierophant 1 / Sublime Chord 1 / Fochlucan Lyrist 9

With Shape Soulmeld (Impulse Boots) and Obtain Familiar.

Starts out crap, then gets good late on. The perennial curse of the dual caster.
