| #1ElVizardJul 18, 2011 17:41:42 | Hi there, I’m new to the forum and I’m wondering if somebody could help me with some ideas for chars I’m about to play. Also they haven’t much affinity with 3.0 books, but it’s almost accepted
-Arms and Equipment Guide -Book of Exalted Deads -Book of Vile Darkness (3.0) -Complete arcane -Complete Divine -Comple Adventurer -Complete Warrior -Dungeon Master’s Guide -Dungeon Master’s Guide 2 -Draconomicon (not sure if it’s 3.0 or 3.5) -Eberron Campaign Setting -Epic Level Handbook (3.0) -Fiend Folio (3.0) -Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting -Libris mortis -Magic Item Compendium -Magic of Faerun -Monster Manual 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 -Spell Compendium -Player’s Guide to Faerun -Player’s Handbook -Player’s Handbook 2 -Savage Species (3.0, sometimes we use it) -Serpent Kingdoms (no sharruk xD) -Tome of Battle: Book of the Nine Swords -Unaproachable East -Unearthed arcane -Weapons of Legacy
Sometimes we use Dragon Magazines, but only the 12 number’s that are in Spanish. If somebody knows them, they are allowed.
Well… back to the ideas… Don’t remember any items now that would help with this (except +6 enhancers to Wis and Str). So any help would be nice.
2) Archer: I want to make an archer that really can fight at high levels and be hard to counter. Classes: Wizard, Sorcerer, Warrior, Arcane archer (not dipping to much, I like the imbue arrow ability, but I think losing 8 caster level’s along with 4 spell levels, for only a +4 enhancement to your arrows –that can be replaced by a permanent +4 enhancement to your bow-, 3 abilities that doesn’t do much and only once per day, and a death arrow with a fixed DC of 20-that can be replaced by an arrow of bone, that has a DC of 7+Int/Cha and get more than one at time), Eldrich Knight, Ranger (not like it much either), Psychic warrior, Rogue (sneak attacks can be used along with feats to get some nice results, but It’s hard to make them from the distance) and ToB one’s (unluckily they are not proficient with bow and some of the maneuvers are questionable combined with bows). Spells: Truestrike, Sniper’s shot, Targeting Ray, Golem strike, Arrow mind, Insightful feint, Distract Assailant, Guided shot. Maneuvers: Assassin’s stance, Raging mongoose, Time stands still, Counter Charge, sudden leap, Shadow Jaunt/Stride/Blink, etc. Powers: Bolt, Call weaponry, Precognition (offensive), Prescience (offensive), animal affinity, dimension swap, truevenom (if it can be used in various arrows at the same time before shooting them) Races: Elf (classical archer), Human (feat, skills, favored class), Strongheart halfing (feat, +2 Dex, +1 attack for beign small), anthropomorphic animal (SS, cat gives you +8 Dex and +1 attack for small size for a +1 LA) Items: magic composite longbow +1 with force, and energy aptitudes (I don’t know if you can place opposite energies in the same weapon (it doesn’t specifies that anywhere, I think, but some of the players I play with, say that they read it somewhere – If someone can tell me if there’s a rule that prohibit and where it is I will be grateful), Archer bracers, Ability boosters (Dex and Str). By the way... i'be seen a post ( community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... ) where apears an energy bow that looks pretty awesome. Does someone knows if it's real or is just an item made to fit with the post?
3) This is shorter, cause I haven’t been thinking much in it, but also is simplest. A Master of many forms. But one that can stand and be a better shapechanging option that a wizard with a Shapechange spell. Classes: Druid, Ranger (UA variant), Warshaper (a shame that it doesn’t stack with wildshape maximum HD L), Daggerspell Shaper (combined with Rogue for SA when grappling at wildshape). Races: Human, Psychic Duergar Items, spells (not shapechange >:| ), powers and maneuvers suggestions are well recieved
4)Monk: I have actually 2 ideas for it. One is getting Stunning fist’s DC and additional effects as high as I can. The second Idea is to make it deal huge amounts of damage with it’s unarmed strike (by multiple grown attacks) Classes: Monk, wizard/sorcerer, Cleric (Lots of buffs), warshaper (1 or 2 lv’s dip for augmented US damage and unnamed ability boosts) , dervish (twice the attacks, nice AC and movement bonus, and attack while moving), shadow sun ninja, rogue (for the ascetic rogue bonus to SF’s DC), Wu Jen (Giant Size+Body Outside Body combo for monk is just great), Enlightened fist (for wizard’s shapechange/wu jen’s Giant size combination with monk aptitudes), Sacred Fist (nice progression for buffed monk), Fist of Zouken. Feats: Ascetic Rogue, Superior Unarmed strike, Improved natural weapon, Falling sun attack, Snap kick, Arcane Disciple (for getting Miracle with the wizard/sorcerer) Races: Half-Giant, Psionic Duergar, Thri kreen, Human, Half-Ogre, Antropomorphic Squid (giant)/whale (baleen) (Large size and nice Str bonus), Warforged Spells: Giant form, Body outside body, Miracle (for Giant form, Body outside body without being wu jen) Items: Monk’s belt, battlefist
5)Exemplar: I know this guy has a place somewhere outside a Rogue that can select any skill and get/give skill bonuses. But still I couldn’t find a way to optimize it.
6) And last for today (:P) : Some nasty spellcaster/martial/Sneakattacker. Classes: Rogue, Sorcerer/wizard, Daggerspell mage, Arcane trickster, Eldric knight, Assassin, Psion, Psychic warrior, Wilder, Jade Phoenix Mage (this guy is just awesome: Full BAB, d6, maneuvers, 8 caster levels, and some really good aptitudes), Master of the Nine, Warsage, Swordsage, Shadow sun ninja. Feats: SA feats, Metamagic feats (extend and persist are the most important ones), Martial Studies/Stances. Spells: Nightstalker’s transformation, Invisibility Greater/Superior, Maneuvers: Assassin’s stance, Cloak of deception Races: anthropomorphic animal (SS, cat gives you +8 Dex and +1 attack for small size for a +1 LA), Human, Elf. Item’s: Deadly Precision weapon aptitude(Complete Adventurer)
Well.. that’s all… |
| #2Maat_MonsJul 18, 2011 18:21:39 | Reaping mauler requires clever wrestling. Clever wrestling requires size medium or smaller. If you become large or bigger (enlarge person, polymorph, et cetera) , you temporarily lose clever wrestling and the class features of reaping mauler. Are you able to use the unarmed variant swordsage suggested in the adaptation section on page 20? |
| #3ElVizardJul 18, 2011 18:42:02 | You're right. Can't use the reaping mauler with Expansion/Enlarge person/Shapechange ![]() I'll have to change the post to create them as diferent characters. I'm not sure. We usually don't use adaptations, but depends on the DM |
| #4dmverdandiJul 19, 2011 14:29:27 | Grappler? Swordsage1/Fighter 2/Cleric 17 Swordsage opens you up to setting sun maneuvers, fighter gives you two extra feats, which should probably be used to expand your discipline range. Cleric levels for buff awesomeness. Feats that should be gained are adaptive style, snap kick, two weapon fighting, intuative attack, power attack, practiced spellcaster, and improved grapple. Archer? Stalwart battle sorcerer 10/ur priest 2/Mystic theurge 10 Buff with divine spells, cast with sorcerer ones. Shapeshifter? Druid 20 with some shifting feats. Monk? psion 3/monk 1/cleric(philosophic) 6/psychic theurge 10 take : 1. Academic priest/carmindine monk 3. Monastic training 6.Practiced manifester 9.Practiced spellcaster. the rest are yours. 5. Exemplar factotum 10/Chameleon 10 6.Sneaky spellcaster Swordsage 1/Rogue 1/ Wizard 8/ Arcane trickster 5/Spellwarp sniper 5 1. Adaptive style + Practiced spellcaster 3.Point Black Shot Rest of the feats are yours. |
| #5ElVizardJul 19, 2011 16:36:07 | Thanks for answering The problem with that is that most of it is outside of the books I can use, unfortunatly. But I didn't know about the battle sorcerer. I think I could find it a good place somewhere. Also, what is a "philosophic" cleric |
| #6dmverdandiJul 19, 2011 23:01:31 | Thanks for answering Shame. A "Philosophic" cleric is a cleric without a deity. They have the freedom to pick any two domains they wish, and don't have codes of conduct. If they are neutral they can do anything they want, and cast any type of spell. The have you read about the battle sorcerer yet? It sacrifices 1 spell known per spell level. Stalwart sacrifices 1 spell of the highest level it can cast. For that, it gains a large hit dice increase, use of a few martial weapons, and a 15 bab progression. Very cool class IMO. |
| #7Maat_MonsJul 19, 2011 23:04:38 | For the grappler, I'd consider wild shape ranger 5 / master of many forms 10. Being bigger and stronger is what helps you grapple, and being bigger and stronger is something master of many forms is very good at. When you get to 14th level, you can turn into a balhannoth (Monster Manual IV) and gain the antimagic grapple ability. You will no longer have to worry about rings of freedom of movement or people teleporting out of a grapple. The only items I can think of for grappling are gloves of titan's grip (Magic Item Compendium). For archer, the classic is a wild elf (Monster Manual) cleric of Labelas Enoreth with the elf and time domains (Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting). That gives you point blank shot and improved initiative as bonus feats. Alternately, you could build a cleric with the elf and war domains for point blank shot and weapon focus (longbow). Make sure to take the Zen archery feat (Complete Warrior) so you use wisdom to hit on ranged attacks instead of dexterity. |
| #8ElVizardJul 19, 2011 23:44:46 | The have you read about the battle sorcerer yet? Yup, I've just read it. It's pretty cool for a gish (I think it's called that way) character. Something I've ever hated about Sorcerers is they use Char to cast their spells, what makes you have to rise another stat at least to 17-19 (depending on your dipping in no-casting classes) For the grappler, I'd consider wild shape ranger 5 / master of many forms 10. Being bigger and stronger is what helps you grapple, and being bigger and stronger is something master of many forms is very good at. wow... antimagic grapple, dimensional lock, constrict, 28 Str, Large Size, some immunities high movement speed and Improved grab! Pretty awesome. I've passed this guy out. What a shame he's only large. Anyways, It's amazing. I'm think in some weird combination with master transmogrifist and wu jen for Giant Size (which actually, I'm not quiet sure if it turns you into a +Colossal creature with +32 Str or Colossal with a lower Str bonus due to the base Large size). Thanks for the idea. Actually it doesn't matter which deity I select, we usually play Philosophic (we use it, but I didn't know it was called that way :P) Clerics. Nice Domain selection, I'll keep them in mind. 2 questions apart from the thread, if somebody could help me: 1) Is there any section of the forum that discusses rulings? 2) Does somebody knows a creature with 15 or less HD with a really high Inteligence score (25 or more)? I looked at the player's handbook, the section that talks about abilities and there are few creatures with low HD and high INT. The highest is a Gold dragon (+11 with about 40 HD) and above is a +5 modifier example. |
| #9Maat_MonsJul 20, 2011 1:14:21 | The highest int score I know of for HD 15 and under creatures is 22, possessed by planetar, ice devil, and nalfeshnee. (Oddly, they're all from Monster Manual I.) |
| #10ElVizardJul 24, 2011 17:58:55 | mm... and how about a high charisma creature of 15 HD or less? |
| #11Maat_MonsJul 24, 2011 23:03:14 | Succubus, with 26. |
