| #1The_Crimson_DawnApr 15, 2008 16:13:50 | Hello I am playing in an Eberron campaign setting adventure Eye of the Lich Queen (at least I think that is the name). My group consists of a Dragon Shaman tank, a dragonfire adept, and a healer that is really good at his job. The last two characters in this campaign are myself and my girlfriend. I would like some help on both characters please. I have access to almost any book published by WotC. My DM does not want something that can break the game at this point (5th level). My DM is avoiding most caster classes but uses an insanely high rolling system for stats. My character... I was thinking a Soulbow build right now going basic I am thinking Soulknife5 and going into soulbow next. I am going to be taking pointblank shot, rapid shot, and precise shot as feats for sure as we are using flaws. What I really want help with are what are some good soulbow build ideas? I have seen a couple on the boards (like the archer book) but some more imput is always good especially for my last 5 levels after soulbow and for my first 5 levels if soulknife 5 is not as fun as some other combo. I have yet to decide on race though human and small races seem the most likely at the moment. What I want to end up with is a solid character who is very self sufficient (except in healing) who can deal good damage and will be useful in almost any situation. I do want to be a soulbow however so try to stay in that frame of mind please. and for the next character... My girlfriend wanted to play a pirate and says that she will be playing a scarlet corsair (stormwracked) and will be going into storm sentry (dragonmarked). There is no negotiation with those class choices. Her first five levels are also already set. So she looks like this rogue4/warblade1/scarlet corsair10/stormsentry5 right now she is a rogue4/warblade1. Since she had to have this build I helped what I thought best. I had her take the alternate class feature from the PB2 so that she could sack SA for an ac penalty so she could help the other members of the party and to help with her power attack. I gave her power attack because I knew her sneak attack was not so great from the levels she took and she had a final BAB of 19 so I thought it was a good idea for dealing good damage. She also is using a falchion as her weapon since it looks like a cutlass. She has punishing stance and several boosts and counters from diamond mind and such. I was just wondering if I helped steer her in a good direction and how do I keep her going in the right direction from here. Remember there is no changing of classes and she does have able learner so she provides the skill monkey role as well. Thanks and I hope some of you can help us! PS I checked the library and did not see any threads on soulbows specifically and while the new archery book has one build in it I would like to see more options if they exist. I also think I posted within the guidelines but if anything is incorrect let me know and I will do my best to fix it. Thanks again. |

My most recent Archery build went- Duskblade 1/Soulknife 4/Soulbow 4/Cragtop Archer 4/ Arcane Archer 6 That gives you plenty of feats to play with, Phase Arrow, seeking arrow, and some decent enchantment bonuses to your arrows (oh, and insane range) To optimize your bow, you'll want to either take Vow of Poverty (which argumentatively stacks with your class enhancement bonuses), or see if your DM will allow you to use a Masterwork Bow as a focus, and enchant that. Make sure that the bonuses stack. As for your girlfriend's build... not my forte, sorry. |

| #6The_Crimson_DawnApr 15, 2008 21:31:22 | Thanks for answering so quickly I am sorry I did not answer earlier but I had a jazz band gig in Akron. Anyway there are no specific bans on any WotC books. We do not use Dragon for the most part and 3rd party material overall is very hit or miss so if I have access to those I can show him the material but more than likely he will say no. Now the reason I said soulbow. He does not want me to play a caster (I know how to make them nasty and he does not want that). I am making this character because my last one, a human warblade, was way too powerful for the people I am playing with and so he wants me to make a new one. I wanted a character with decent skills. I also wanted a character who can make good attacks every round which archers can do. I also wanted him to be able to have an ok armor class. I know there is not much synergy but this will help me not overshadow the other players like before while keeping me feeling happy. It does cover one weekness of our group which is long range support. The dragon shaman, the healer, and the rogue are really weak at a distance which means that our ranged hitter is the dragonfire adept which is kind of weak in the hitting department. The soulbow will give me consistant fire at any range which will help us in those tiny rooms whre only two people can melee and in those long range duels against dragons and the like. Besides blasting energy from my hands just sounds like fun and a warlock is just not tough enough. I am thinking about being Kalashtar for the power points and thematic material and use the alternate class ability for hidden talent so I get power that I can actually use. What power should I take with that I wonder? Lastly do not forget to evaluate the rogue/warblade as I do not want to lead that character astray. Thanks again guys I know that I am making a strange request of helping me make an effective character from an unoptimized set of classes but thats what my DM wants me to do and so I choose a very middle of the road class that seems really cool to me. PS Oh geez why did I misplace my Admiral Ackbar picture... |
