| #1sithraldorApr 01, 2008 9:58:14 | I'm need help with a archer build. My wife has decided to play D&D with my group she want to play an archer. But no spells & no companion (she does what it to be anymore confusing) I play spellcaster & artficers only so I figured I'd ask the experts here. I was looking & the ranger variants(UA & PHB 2) & they don't really look so good(maybe wrong). I thought maybe the scout but I'm not sure. We play in eberron. Between me & my friend we have access to almost all the books. We play high powered campaigns 5d6 drop 2 & anything under 10 is rerolled so it would need to be powerful. Also as little complexation as possible but I can help with that so don't worry about it. Also is great E.W. Prof with it for an archer? Thanks in advance, Sith |

| #4eepopApr 01, 2008 12:23:01 | Swift Hunter is fairly solid, and has a nice extensive handbook as well. |
| #5the_shamanApr 01, 2008 14:07:37 | I'd say a fighter4/ranger, eventually going into Peerless Archer or deepwood sniper, can be quite handy. She won't get the spells/animal in a hurry, anyway, so until she does - or finds a good feature to swap them with - she will have a clue or two how to best use them. |
| #6stickboy2323Apr 01, 2008 15:15:58 | There is a spell-less variant for rangers in Complete Warrior and an alternate class feature for rangers in PHB2 that gives up the animal companion. Look into both of those. Otherwise I'd just 2nd, 3rd, and 4th the swift hunter idea. |

| #8sithraldorApr 01, 2008 17:27:24 | sorry duh, starting level is 1st going probably to 20+. So she will need to enjoy it. Bo9S is far game it is simple enough. I talked to her again & she said spell are ok are long as they are not real complex so I figure a ranger's spells fit that bill. But no animal companion she just doesn't want to deal with it. |

They give up their animal companion and get the ability to make enemies count as flanked on the next ally's attack after a successful attack. It is great for archers who have a rogue in the party...your rogue will love you. I believe this is in PHB II so check there for details. |
