Hey guys! I'm a relative newbie to DnD in general, but I'm participating in a PVP tournament run by a friend of mine.

The requirements are ECL 6, with 28 point buy stats, and regular ECL starting gold. Oh, and a 1000 pt. exp buffer for crafting. The available source material is basically SRD, but the DM is very open to any book material, I just have to talk to him.

Right now, I'm thinking Duskblade for a nice gish, but I need some help on how to optimize him for PVP with the details (feats, spells, items, etc.).

There are some amazing builds posted on this forum, so I was wondering what you guys think.

The problem with gish builds is that they dont really hit their effectiveness till higher level. So if it's just a short term arena game, fighting other players, than you'll be happier being a duskblade.

Thanks, Duskblade does give me a lot more flexibility and the CL to actually do something. Changed.

actually Alter Self is not on the Duskblade Spell -list .... you could get it with the feat Extra Spell, however you need to be able to cast 3rd lvl spells .... that means waiting until 9th lvl Duskblade

instead try this:

Human
Duskblade 6

10 Str
16 Dex
16 Con
15 Int(14+1lvl)
8 Wis
8 Cha

Feats:
Weapon Finnesse(human bonus)
Combat Casting(Duskblade Bonus)
1st lvl: Spell Thematics(Touch of Fatigue, Chill Touch, Scorching Ray)
3rd lvl: 2 weapon fighting
6th lvl: Arcane Thesis(Scorching Ray)

use +1 Mithral Chain Shirt

Spells Known:
0th Level
Acid Splash(PH p196) – Orb deals 1d3 damage.
Disrupt Undead(PH p223) – Deals 1d6 damage to
one undead.
Ray of Frost(PH p269) – Ray deals 1d3 Cold damage.
Touch of Fatigue(PH p294) – Touch attack fatigues
target.

1st Level
Chill Touch(PH p209) – 1 touch per level deals 1d6
damage and possibly 1 Strength damage.
Kelgore’s Fire Bolt(PH2 p116) – 1d6 Fire damage per
level (max 5d6), partially ignores SR.
Obscuring Mist(PH p258) – Fog surrounds you.
Ray of Enfeeblement(PH p260) – Ray reduces
Strength by 1d6 points +1 per 2 levels (max +5).
Resist Energy(PH p246) – Ignores the first 10 (or
more) points of damage per attack from a
specified energy type.

2nd Level
Scorching Ray(PH p274) – Ranged touch attack,
deals 4d6 fire damage, +1 ray/4 levels (max 3).
See Invisibility(PH p275) – Reveals invisible
creatures or objects.
Touch of Idiocy(PH p294) – Subject takes 1d6
Intelligence, Wisdom & Charisma damage.

Tactics:

cast Scorching ray at Range...Channel Kelgores Fire bolt in Melee attacks....
cast Chill Touch at beginning to gain extra Melee Touch attack with off hand

I mean because it needs high dexterity, you won't be wearing heavy armor, it requires extra feats to function at melee, etc.

yes... i was planning a Finnesse build(my favorite) already :P

true about the Heavy Armor ... but at ECL 6 ... PVP ... +1 Mithral Chain Shirt is all he will need

i only took it to be able to effectively make use of a Melee touch Attack(Chill Touch) on top of his normal Channel Spell into his Rapier ;)
