I'm not certain if this is the correct section to be posting this (I tried looking through the forum, directories, etc.), and if it is the wrong area, I apologize. However, people here tend to be the most knowledgeable it seems anyway. ![]() At any rate, my question is regarding Type and Subtype, specifically the Augmented Subtype. So, if you acquire the augmented subtype from becoming say, undead, are you still eligible for all the things that require your original race to qualify for (i.e., feats, PrCs, etc.). Specifically, I am playing a half-elf who has just become a Gravetouched Ghoul (LM). Now, Gravetouched Ghoul says you gain the augmented subtype (much like a Vampire does, for example, et. al.). So, aren't you technically still a half-elf too? I ask because I had some half-elf racial feats (e.g., Sociable Personality), and a level in Half-Elf Paragon, and was on my way to finishing that out, then taking Human Paragon, and probably PrCing into Outcast Champion (and I might take some more racial feas along the way). My question is: is that still possible? Crazy as it seems, I think it may be? Libris Mortis (and other books) have examples of Vampire Elves, and Vampire Yaun-ti Rangers, and they keep all their original special qualities (as the rules say), so couldn't they qualfiy for race-specific things as well? I think it's just the fact that it is a ghoul--not a vampire, for example--and I'm talking about Paragon classes here to boot, which makes the example "seem" so strange and extreme. But, for example, if it were a Vampire Medusa, and it wanted to go into some Medusa-specific-PrC (if it existed), I wouldn't really think that was strange at all. Or, for example, a Vampire Yuan-ti that wanted to PrC into one of the many PrCs for Yuan-ti in Serpent Kingdoms. I know a Half-Elf Gravetouched Ghoul going into Half-Elf Paragon (et. al.) probably sounds really strange (and it is), but I just want to know, RAW, does it work? Thanks guys, any and all help and input is greatly appreciated! |

Just because you become undead doesn't change the fact that you are an elf, so I believe although it is odd, you are correct. Also, the Monster Manual's thing about the Vampire supports your claim, and would apply equally to a Ghoultouched A vampire uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here. Size and Type: The creature’s type changes to undead (augmentedhumanoid or monstrous humanoid). Do not recalculatebase attack bonus, saves, or skill points. Size is unchanged. |
