#1 temporaldancer May 29, 2009 13:48:32	Hi, I've just started playing D&D recently, found these forums and think I have found a new 'power build,' so to speak. I may have missed something in my searches, but it seems this sort of a build would net a caster level that is quite high. There is likely a way to make this a recursive infinite CL loop, however I do not yet know it. Any feedback is quite welcome. No specific race needed. Something without a wis penalty preferred Bard 1/Wizard 3/Sorc 1/Spellthief 3/Duskblade 1/Wu Jen 1/Ur-Priest 10 The only pertinent feats are Master Spellthief and Practiced Caster, giving the practised spellcaster to your Spellthief levels. From there, you would add your Spellthief caster levels to those of each other arcane class, of course as per Practiced Spellcaster not going over the HD limit for any of them. That would lead to (8+11+8+7+8+8)/2 caster levels added to your Ur-priest, giving a 25 cl boost to your base of 10, adding up to 35. Obviously, this is far from optimised, but I trust the build can be improved upon with other items, spells, what have you. Any comments, questions, concerns are welcome!
#2 gilfalas_elaandrin May 29, 2009 13:57:47	Assuming it is taken 3 times, giving a CL17 for your bard,... Practised caster cannot be taken multiple times on the same class. It can only be taken on different classes. Meaning your spell thief caster level would be 9. Also Master Spell thief only allows you to add the caster levels of your other Arcane spell casting classes to your spell thief level. Ur-Priest is a divine spell class not arcane. matching all your arcane caster levels to the highest Not sure at all where you getting this from. Could not find it in either feat you quoted, spellthief or Ur Priest. The build you posted would have Arcane Caster level 14 on his Spellthief spells and powers only. Would be caster level 17 on his Divine spells in Ur Priest, given that the wording does not disqualify Arcane Caster Levels in the Ur Priest computation, like master spell thief DOES. He would have Caster level 1 on his Wizard, Sorc, Duskblade and Wu Jen spells, which would totally suck.
#3 rebel7284 May 29, 2009 14:02:43	"To determine the caster level of an ur-priest, add the character’s ur-priest levels to one-half of his levels in other spellcasting classes." arguably talks about one-half CLASS LEVELS not caster level. If interpreted as caster level (which causes some weird quirks in itself), add Sublime Chord.
#4 temporaldancer May 29, 2009 15:52:33	Oops, missed that Gilfalas. Fixed things in the original post. However, still, if you add in an orange Ioun stone, that gives a net +6 to your Ur-priest caster level, which only gets better if you have more items to help that out, or more arcane classes to dip (subtracting levels from Spellthief.) Or, for extra cheese, be a Kobold, taking both of the rituals to add to sorc casting, make it so you are Sorc 2/Wizard 1/War Mage 1/Spellthief 3/Wu Jen 1/Bard 1/Duskblade 1/Ur-Priest 10. If my math is correct, then your CL is 10 + (11+8+8+7+8+8+8)/2, or 39, and making the Ioun stone just that much tastier.
