| #1foxtrot45Jun 27, 2009 22:53:22 | My friend is joining a campaign. He wants to play a holy liberator. His PC is coming in at 8th level. Stats rolled are 17, 16, 14, 13, 11, 10. He's leaning toward human and greatsword. I was thinking fighter 4/barbarian 1/liberator 3, but that only works... If he can get Sense Motive and Diplomacy as class skills - does anyone know how to to that? Beyond that, I figured greatsword, 17 in str, 16 in cha, 13 in wis, 14 con, and the 10 and 11 in dex and wisdom. Any thoughts or suggestions? Eph |

Not sure how to get Sense Motive as a class skill off the top of my head though, sorry. EDIT: As it turns out, if you take Martial Study again, this time for Setting Sun, you get Sense Motive and a Setting Sun maneuver. So for the price of two feats, there you go. This thread also says you can take Apprentice feats from the DMG II if you want, but I think maneuvers are more useful. Also, make sure he takes this ACF because flurry with a greatsword is amazing and will WRECK things, and look up Lion Totem from Complete Champion too, it replaces the barbarian's Fast Movement with Pounce. Which is ridiculous, especially when combined with the extra attack from Whirling Frenzy. Remember to put your two extra stat points from being 8th level into Str, and take power attack if you can afford the feat at all. (I don't know what Holy Liberator does or requires) |

About halfway down, there's a list of wilderness oriented skills you can trade for urban oriented skills. Specifically, Survival for Sense Motive. Won't get you a lot of ranks, unless you take barbarian first and grab Able Learner. Then it's not as bad. |

For a Paladin Divine Might would be a no-brainer, but obviously as a HL he doesn't have TU. Ad far as feats, I was thinking about extra smiting, but smiting doesn't seem good enough to be worth it. Even though there is that cool tactical feat form Champion that gives you additional options, you only get them when smiting and they aren't great. |

| #6kabof_Jun 28, 2009 13:42:30 | Ask your friend if he wouldn't prefer to play a Paladin of Freedom (from Unearthed Arcana). Maybe your DM would let him have Break Enchantment instead of Remove Disease. |
| #7the_shamanJun 28, 2009 14:11:05 | Depends... would more exotic material, like the dragon compendium, be available? There is a class called Battle Dancer that is a bit like a chaotic monk (without flurry and the bonus feats, but with full BAB) that uses charisma for its unarmed AC. With that and the Mystic Wanderer from Magic of Faerun (which requires 2nd level divine spells, which you get with HL 4 iirc) you can add your charisma to your AC twice (once untyped, once sacred) when unarmored. How does that sound? |
| #8ninjarabbitJun 28, 2009 17:45:30 | Marshal wouldn't be a bad entry into Holy Liberator. All the minor auras are based on charisma and marshals get dipolmacy and sense motive as class skills. |
| #9demon_paladinJun 28, 2009 19:39:56 | What about just straight up Paladin of freedom into Holy Liberator? |
