| #1SchwargApr 02, 2008 16:56:10 | Just curious? Conjurations outside the field I get but how do you get over it when you are inside it if you are a spell caster? Fighting a guy with a reach weapon with the mageslayer feat and all the knockdown build BS... |
| #2tshernApr 02, 2008 16:57:43 | Initiate of Mystra feat from Player's Guide to Faerun saves Clerics from this. |
| #3w00tmanxApr 02, 2008 17:06:23 | It depends on the situation. Are you in a room full of AMFs? Is the guy you're fighting the emenation of the AMF?in most cases, it's easy enough to just get cover from it (for example, from a shrink item tower shield in front of you). When the AMF hits the small shield, it will remove the transmutation, making it big and thus, you can hide behind it. Mundane burrow/fly speeds work real well, too. /shrug. I don't see how AMFs are that big of a deal. Just avoid them. Unless it's something that's unavoidable--in which case your DM is asking you to figure out a different solution to your challenge. |
| #4SchwargApr 02, 2008 17:24:06 | What's a shrink item tower shield? |
| #5tshernApr 02, 2008 17:27:20 | Take a tower shield. Cast Shrink item on it. Have a shrink item tower shield. |
| #6SchwargApr 02, 2008 17:31:35 | Never heard of it... Shrink? Wouldn't it grow large once in the AMF? And how would that stop an AMF? Sorry if I'm a newbie here but this is all chinese to me... |
| #7adslahnitApr 02, 2008 17:34:37 | Martial Study (any Iron Heart maneuver) and Martial Study (Iron Heart Surge). That, or a 1-level dip in warblade if you want to save 2 feat slots in exchange for 1 less level of spellcasting progression. |

On that note, do the elemental grafts in Magic of Eberron count as magical? Earth has a graft that gives a burrow, and air has a graft that gives flight. As far as I know, elementals are unaffected by an AMF, so that would argue that grafts still function. On the other hand, the elemental flesh is grafted on magically, so would an AMF suppress their abilities? If not, that would provide an ideal escape measure, especially as grafts don't take up any item slots. |
| #9w00tmanxApr 02, 2008 18:35:47 | I'm not too familiar with ECS. As for the shrink item tower shieldsâ: an Antimagic Field does not go through solid objects. Therefore, if you can get some sort of wall or object that can completely come between your body and the AMF, the AMF is blocked and you are not subject to it. |

Shrink item's a Wizard spell from the Player's Handbook. That makes the tower shield easier to carry around, but when it comes to the antimagic field, it grows to its original size and thus blocks the AMF, because it is an emanation. |
| #11NathreetApr 02, 2008 21:33:26 | It also affects the caster. He is now an overglorfied commoner 15. "Fighter, be a pal and take down that AMF wizzie for me, will ya?" |
| #12phaedrusxyApr 02, 2008 21:59:15 | It also affects the caster. He is now an overglorfied commoner 15. I am pretty sure he is getting it from a item, or is a runescarred berzerker or something. He said the guy is some kind of lockdown fighter that specializes in fighting casters. There are several ways for a non-caster to get an AMF on them. |
| #13NathreetApr 02, 2008 22:24:01 | I got it. 100 shrunken alchemist fires in a small pouch. Toss at AMF guy. Duration of shrink item is 1 day per caster level. All it takes to prep is a a several days and many spell slots. |
| #14ShakaUVMApr 03, 2008 0:17:24 | How I've done it: 1) Wish/miracle to be immune to AMF. 2) Initiate of Mystra, other Mystran stuff. 3) Iron Heart Surge (easiest method) 4) Disjunction 5) Artifacts 6) Contingency teleport (with the proper setup it is possible). |
| #15andyjamesApr 03, 2008 1:40:38 | Are you talking about this guy? http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1012220 If so, think about gating in something or planar allying in something to get rid of him for you. |
| #16farodinApr 03, 2008 6:15:33 | If the mageslayer doesn't have Thicket of Blades (yet), some crossclass ranks in tumble can help a lot. Otherwise, better make sure you never get in the field... |
| #17WyvernhandApr 03, 2008 6:48:19 | Invoke Magic from Lords of Madness is a 9th level spell that lets you cast 1 spell from inside of an AMF. I haven't read the spell in a LONG time, so I don't remember the specifics, but I think there is a nasty backlash resulting from it. Regardless, it'll let you get that 1 spell off that you need to Quickened Teleport (via metamagic rod) the hell out of Dodge. Plot your opponents demise from the safety of your Private Sanctum and then emerge with all of the nasty tricks you need to devour his immortal soul. Or just kill him. Either works. |
