I am doing some analysis of some builds for a future thread, and I am just curious if there is a char op consensus on how to place stats on a plain vanilla human wizard 20.

How would you personally stat such a wizard with

25 point buy?

28 point buy?

32 point buy?

And please post what point allocation would you use, even if someone else has already posted the exact same point buy before (trying to figure out what is the most popular answer).

To make it simpler to read, just copy and paste this below text, and put your number for that stat before the word str, dex, etc (such as 8 str, 12 dex)

Edit: No age modifiers, no necropolitan, dragonborn, etc while technically retaining the human subtype makes you something obviously nonhuman. Keep it simple, for this is going to be a base comparrison.

See Treantmonk's guide for this and lots more.

while treantmonk's god is a very well respected resource of CO, it isn't the only opinion on how to play a wizard. Hell half the reason we had GOD viewpoint of wizards, because treantmonk disagreed on many aspects of how to play a wizard with the BATMAN viewpoint, and he created his guide to change peoples minds on what is the most effective way to play a wizard (treantmonk's GOD has never been a fan of saves or dies or spells that only affect 1 creature preferring things that shape and control the entire battlefield, logicninja BATMAN was more of a "generalist" a person who had one good spell of every type of use you can use prepared).

I plan a response on how to play a wizard (a miniature guide) causing people to challenge long hold assumptions on a subject. But at the same time I want to establish the best baseline possible, thus this thread.

Wizard 20? As far as I'm concerned, you go Human for the feat/skills or (Whisper) Gnome for the stats, or maybe Grey Elf on the 32-pointbuy.

25 point buy
8 str
14 dex
14 con
17 int
8 wis
8 cha

28 point buy

32 point buy
8 str
14 dex
16 con
18 int
8 wis

THIS
althought if i wanted to focus on rays with arcane thesis and split ray, i'd consider switching CON and DEX in the 32 point buy. On second though, I'd play an elf and have the switch done for me racially.

Human Wizard - 25 pt
Str 11 (+3)
Con 14 (+6)
Dex 14 (+6)
Wis 8
Int 16 (+10)
Cha 8

Human Wizard - 28 pt
Str 10 (+2)
Con 14/16 (+6/+10)
Dex 16/14 (+10/+6)
Wis 8
Int 16 (+10)
Cha 8

Human Wizard - 32 pt
Str 10 (+2)
Con 16 (+10)
Dex 16 (+10)
Wis 8
Int 16 (+10)
Cha 8

Personally I don't like spending over the top for that additional stat pt, would build the character to focus less on save DCs and more on touch attacks.

Depends on books allowed and if age modifiers are allowed. For example:

middle aged human wizard 25 pb:

8 -1 == 7
15 -1 == 14
15 -1 == 14
16 +1 == 17
9 +1 == 10
8 +1 == 9
