Hurtling Halfling of Hilarity

Mar 25, 2008 3:25:41 This was just kind of a "lets see what we can whip up" kind of build.

Halfing Ranger6/Scout3
2 Flaws, CC feat version of Ranger without gay feat groups. 2 Medium Sized Daggers

1Scout Power Attack, Weapon Finesse, Leap of the Heavens
2Scout
3Scout Leap Attack
4Ranger
5Ranger TWF
6Ranger Swift Hunter
7Ranger Two Weapon Pounce
8Ranger
9Ranger Improved TWF, Oversized TWF(I hate this feat, but you need it to make the PA work)

What do you think?

60 foot leap(considered a charge) with the skirmishing, double power attack damage, X2 strength bonus, with two weapons.

Decent damage for a Halfling Ranger. If my DM would let me take a feat to add my dex to damage (think reverse brutal throw) I would totaly play this just for the lulz.

Mar 25, 2008 3:45:20 You take inappropriate size weapon penalties so you can power attack with daggers? Why don't you just use two one handed weapons and be a medium creature? Is there a point to being a halfling?

Mar 25, 2008 7:58:40 A medium sized light weapon is considered to be a one-handed small weapon. I think the penalty only applies if, for example, a Large creature tried using a medium greatsword two handed.

Halfling just for flavor purposes, and I love halflings.

I suppose you could just use maces, but I like this imagery.

Mar 25, 2008 8:06:45 Yes a medium light weapon is a small one-handed, but you take a -2 for it being inappropriately sized. I get what you're going for, but if you look at it, medium dagger basically equals small short sword, but you can't powerattack with a small shortsword, since it is light. Basically, you take the -2 to be allowed to power attack, since it's one handed now.

Edit: According to the SRD the longsword is a One-handed weapon, so it could be used to power attack. I suppose a Halfling sized longsword would be like a dagger.

If you want dagger-like weapons, you may want to go either A) longsword, B) rapier, or C) scimitar. Personally, for the build you suggest, go with small sized rapier. They'd be almost like pointy daggers for a human, but they have 3 important qualities for you:
A) they're appropriately sized, so no penalties to wield
B) they're weapon finessable
C) they're one handed, so you can power attack.
