Whenever anyone figures out a Thread Address conversion, shout it.

| #2Tempest_StormwindSep 10, 2013 15:01:44 | I found a few, but they're proving difficult due to the lack of a working forum search and different thread IDs. Most were some of my old showcases (I had a few that were edited and not backed up locally; I'll be moving them elsewhere), but the one handbook I found was the Mailman.
EDIT: Also, looking at the HTML across threads, it appears that SPAN tags no longer have their formatting (that's why there's a Paste command as well as a separate Paste From Word command; new Word uses SPAN for formatting when it's interpreted by rich-text editors like this one). This is important, because almost anything that was written with the last forum's rich-text editor was formatted using SPAN tags. This means that any handbook written during the 4e days would more or less be rendered unusable (and I feel bad for 4e CharOp). Some older forum code (from the Boards1 days or the Gleemax days) used basic HTML, so the older handbooks are probably not affected - but the older a thread gets, the harder it is to find using existing forum tools! (I found the Mailman by remembering it was written by DeAnno, and simply went back through his/her forum history until I saw the Mailman. This method would NOT work, for instance, if you're looking for the 3.5 Psionics FAQ, because I wrote that around 2005 or so and have been rather active since then!) (Interesting tidbit: This post was marked as "edited" before I edited it.) |

There's one way the threads were indexed that still works with the current change. All it takes is doing an advanced Google search, but limit it as follows. site:community.wizards.com/go/ KEYWORD The /go/ is important. For instance, the Mailman: if I do the following advanced search: However, if I do THIS advanced search instead: Hopefully the /go/ redirect (or the actual page location) will eventually become the standard as activity to the old /forumhandler pages dies off, preventing the need for this step, but in the meantime, at least all the information is accessible. |
| #4StevenOSep 10, 2013 20:55:15 | Although it is probably pointless for some of use it seems that you can find your old threads under your account. I'm just looking at mine and while I haven't started many threads they actually go back more than 7 years and cover things I don't think are anywhere else on this board.

It looks like some Links are being restored. Some. But yeah, the new numbering format(s) are way different.
