| #1sublime-sageJul 15, 2009 23:37:52 | What are some good spells that don't offer spell resistance? I am going to play a ninth level wizard and just thinking on what spells to chose from. |
| #2temetnosceJul 15, 2009 23:40:30 | Off the top of my head I only recall the Orb spells, and I'm not sure it's all of them. Sorry, not entirely sober... yet again... |
| #3danduJul 15, 2009 23:41:32 | Solid Fog Black Tentacles Orb of X Melf's Unicorn Arrow Wall of Stone Wall of Force Cloudkill Stinking Cloud Web Glitterdust Cloud of Knives Altneratively Spell Penetration Greater Spell Penetration Arcane Mastery for feats that let you burst through SR. Or learn the spell True Casting, or Assay Spell Resistance for +10 to checks for overcoming SR. |
| #4temetnosceJul 15, 2009 23:44:27 | Heh, right after posting that I recalled Grease, Glitterdust, Web, and Acid Arrow. Mostly already posted though. |
| #5sublime-sageJul 15, 2009 23:58:06 | Altneratively Spell Penetration Greater Spell Penetration Arcane Mastery for feats that let you burst through SR. Or learn the spell True Casting, or Assay Spell Resistance for +10 to checks for overcoming SR. My DM said there are some enemy with magic immunity so if a spells offer resistance it doesn't work. |
| #6danduJul 16, 2009 0:04:37 | Oh, Golems or something? Yeah, Orb that shiz. |
| #7Chaos_RedefinedJul 16, 2009 3:59:14 | Failing those methods, try the following: Fly Haste Enlarge Person Heroism etc... (these are the ones off the top of my head... I imagine there are more options, probably a lot better than enlarge and heroism...) |
| #8siranuiJul 16, 2009 5:38:54 | Buffs are the best way around SR, in many ways. Also, I believe that the reserve feats (fiery burst et al) bypass spell resistance. On the off-chance that you're playing a UM, Theurgic Specialist from Dragon magazine should give enough caster levels to blow through most SR. |
| #9pithicaJul 16, 2009 10:52:54 | If you absolutely have to do 'damage' (ugh) to a mob with Magic Immunity, a Reserve Feat is a good option. Those are all (Su), and therefore don't offer spell resistance. It certainly helped me when my DM thought he'd be cute and throw a Golem at my Force Missile Mage. For Spells, Blast of Sand doesn't offer SR (and does full damage to objects), and if I recall correctly, neither do Haboob/Arctic Haze. I also think that Dragon's Breath doesn't. Or, you could just cast Body of War on your Familiar and let him duke it out with the Golem. |
| #10widowJul 19, 2009 10:13:23 | If you are playing a sublime chord build or something along those lines, a level of Marshall can go a long way. 1 level will pick you up the aura where you add cha to your caster checks to over come SR. Not so good for a more standard caster build. |
| #11dr_rocktopusJul 19, 2009 22:38:00 | Tomebound Eye Of Boccob, MiC. Dirt cheap, slot-less, up to +8 to a spell for spell penetration purposes, picked as you prep spells. What's SR again? ;) |
| #12Janos_AnteroJul 20, 2009 1:30:07 | A decent no-SR spell is Doom Scarabs out of PHB2 as well. It's a 4th level Necromancy/Conjuration, 60' cone based off Fort with no SR against the damage (but 1d6/2 levels, cap 10d6). If the creature has SR and you beat it, you also gain 1d4 temporary hit points, per creature with SR. Not hugely powerful, but very useful to have handy for SR monsters and Reflex/Evasion combos. |
| #13morphling_89Jul 20, 2009 4:44:00 | Great Thunderclap (3rd level, Spell Compendium) is nice. AoE, no SR, enemies have to make Will saves or stunned, Fort saves or deafened, Ref or fall Prone. Pretty much gaurenteed to have some effect. Both the Ref and Will saves are great! |
