I need help optimzing a Shifter Wizard

Feb 09, 2009 5:37:19 Hello friends, a friend of mine invited me to his Eberron campaign. I really wanted to play a shifter, and I really wanted to play a caster, SO this is the result. The problem is I've never played a caster before so I'd like some help optimizing her.

Alright so here's the deal, She's level 1 wizard so far, no feats chosen no specializations so far. Is there anything that you people would recommend for a shifter Wizard (that includes builds, shifter traits, feats, and prestiges). I know they take a hit to Int so I was wondering if there was a work around for it.

Books allowed:
All Eb books
All 3.5 books
No Faerun

If you people could help me out I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

Feb 09, 2009 5:48:48 i would suggest this:

Swiftwing - +2 Dexterity & Fly 20’ (average)..... gets you out of melee and gives boost to ranged attacks and AC

or

Beasthide - +2 Constitution & +2 Natural Armor .... gives boost to fort save, HP, AC

consider Abrupt Jaunt Variant

Feb 09, 2009 17:42:44 I know you wanted to play a wizard but your chose of the shifter race for that class is poor. Shifters make poor arcane caster with a negative to cha and int. They are meant for a more melee role anyways.

You say you want to play a shifter caster have you given thought to the druid. There are shifter variant levels in the Races of Eberron book (page126) if you like it but I would not. There are a few good shifter prestige classes; I suggest the moonspreaker if you want a good druid prestige class. Planer Shepherd out of Faith of Eberron is one too. Shifters eat up alot of feats to make good use out of their ability to shift so getting a few bonus shifter feat here and there is good.

My suggestion is go shifter (beast hide) Class: Druid First level feat: Beasthide. Grab a spear as scimitar wood shield studded leather armor and anything else you can afford and have fun.
