| #1loving_nekoMay 16, 2013 10:30:02 | I had an idea come into my head last night and I really need help calculating the stats. Striaght to the point i want a character that has ancestory of dragon (not sure which type yet) and a mudane tiger. then the cub from that mates with an anthro tiger. I want my character to be the child as the result of all this. I am going to be a rogue (cn). so the dragon male, tiger female. cub male and anthro tiger female. I am in really in need of help with this if anyone can help me that would be great. anthros are in savage species. |

The ancestry game with half-half-half-half-quarter-anthro-tauric-eldritchabomination characters is never done well if you try to exactly handle everything from the family tree. Instead, conceptualize what the product would look like, and approximate. Here, I think the simplest solution is a Shifter (Eberron campaign setting) with the Draconic template (Races of the Dragon). This has the advantage of being LA+0, meaning it won't get in the way of your character's numbers later on. Aiming for basic shapeshifting classes like the weretouched master or the war shaper would probably be apropos, as would looking into [Shifter] and [Dragonblood] feats. The more cumbersome approach would be to use any of the LA+0 draconic races discussed in Races of the Dragon (Dragonborn is the most martial, but it's technically a template applied to another race; pick a humanoid) and then levelling as a weretiger. This may produce a better shapechanger with a stronger feel for both the dragon and tiger element - perhaps too strong on the dragon side - and it takes up a lot of space in the build, but since you didn't give us any class distinctions (really, you're not looking for optimization; you're looking for a custom race) I don't have a lot to go on. The answer I think you're hoping for, half-dragon anthropomorphic tiger, is just going to be awful, I'm afraid. 2 racial hit dice and a +4 level adjustment means you're shaving off 6 levels even before you consider your first class level. Not only does this restrict your options, it also limits your starting level and your survivability (something like 20 hit points at level 6 (average result with 14 Constitution before racial mods), means you're very likely to die if you enter melee - average "fighter NPC" HP for that level is 50; average "monster" HP for that level is 70). |

Shifter, for one... did you even look at the recommendation? Draco and I both suggested shifter with draconic template, and I suspect we both zeroed in on it for a reason. Shifters are directly intended to be descendents of lycanthropes (although they are NOT lycanthropes at all (a touchy subject in the setting, in fact) and can also be used to describe anamalistic humanoids), and the draconic template adds just a touch of dragon to that mix, and the entire race is eminently playable (CORRECTION from above; Draconic is a +1 LA template. However, it is also presented as a class, so you can awaken a bit of your dragon heritage at a later point if you want to keep that on the down low while playing a primarily tiger-esque shifter. Incidentally? Yes, you can totally control this. And lycanthropy is also controllable if you follow the link I presented. |
| #6The_FredMay 17, 2013 4:59:49 | Since you would probably be a "natural" lycanthrope (yuck, +3 LA though) you're be able to shapeshift *and* control it. Another option might be Hengeyokai, from Oriental Adventures. They tell me that was updated to 3.5 to remove the +1 LA. I don't think there's a "tiger" option but you could probably make one, just reflavouring another or something (but you'd probably turn into a cat, not a tiger, as it's too powerful). It's like a lycanthrope-"lite". Or just be Draconic and fluff the tiger thing. You already get claws and stuff. |
| #7Andarious-RosethornMay 17, 2013 7:29:20 | To anyone who's ever read both Shifter and Draconic is probably going to notice it fits basically exactly the desired goal here. It's watered down enough to not obviously be too much of any one feature but will show them all. Somewhat feral and somewhat draconic, with the option to bring out the beast a few times per day (more based on Shifter feats). |
| #8draco1119May 17, 2013 8:33:16 | And it doesn't tank your HD, has a minimal LA, and can easily do full weretiger by level 12 or so - earlier if LA buyoff is on the table. |
| #9Tempest_StormwindMay 17, 2013 9:51:27 | Not only that, since the OP didn't mention class requirements, focusing exclusively on shifter-specific racial options (i.e. learning lots of Shifter feats) would fit quite well. Weretouched Master in effect augments your shifting ability from "unleashing the beast within" to "actually transforming into a tiger, like a lycanthrope". You also qualify for Dragonblood feats, which might modify you even further and express your dragon side a bit more. (If you want, you'll still need to grab the Dragontouched feat for the best selection of Draconic feats: you can still take them because of the template, but the feat allows you to learn the feats that require you to have sorcerer levels, i.e. those based off of Draconic Heritage, which can awaken the better parts of the dragon. Or you can play a sorcerer and have their magic "emerge" from your dragon ancestor, qualifying for those feats anyway. Or just go without, as the basic dragonblood feats are fine and you will probably get better benefit from more Shifter feats anyway.) |
| #10awaken_D_M_golemMay 18, 2013 13:26:24 | Tiger Dragon Tiger "anthropo" = human effectively 1 of the ancestors has to be dominant not so much to ruin the concept but rather of emphasis. As an example my kitty avatar looks like me, but the kitty part doesn't. (blink blink ... wuh-hut ?) So make it an Anthro-Tiger with a Dragon Bloodline of minor or immediate or major strength. generic anthro + semi fix ---> www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t... dragon bloodlines ---> www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/bloodli... |
| #11The_FredMay 19, 2013 5:42:54 | If Bloodlines weren't the most screwed up rules in the history of 3.5 (and that's saying something). |
