Idea: Illithid Savant Thrallherd

May 22, 2008 16:55:51 This idea seems viable. As a thrallherd, you can summon an arbitrary number of thralls 'til you get the types you want, then you eat this thrall's brains. Repeat as desired.

Variant on the Thrallherd BoVD sacrifice. You choose the thrall's Race + Class, and if you are or get a Psion 7 or 8, there's your Psychic Reformation to get you exactly what you want. But yeah, doable, technically later than some of the polymorph/shapechange sillyness. So why not. Same neck of the woods. You are only not pun-pun cause you don't want to be pun-pun. Without checking, I'd hazard an Illithid straight into Thrallherd, without even getting a manifesting class. Or take Leadership (retrain away later), and 1 level of Ardent, and then Thrallherd and Practised Manifester.
Evil is fun.

May 23, 2008 20:07:49 Yeah, I remember some talk about this a while back. The trouble is that in order to set up an infinite class feature combo you need at least 7 levels of Illithid Savant. Bearing in mind that Mind Flayers are ECL 15 out of the box, you might have some trouble fitting in even one level of Thrallherd.

If you can use half-Illithid this becomes a lot easier.

Now, if you were able to track down a Thrallherd you could of course eat the Thrallherd ability (and the Twofold Monster for that matter). The trick here is a) finding one and b) making sure you have enough uses of eat class feature left over to make it worthwhile. You may need 10 levels of IS.
