I just have a simple question... what is the longest combat you've ever had against a single opponent in a low level (5 or so) game? I just got back from a 27 round fight against a mountain troll (MM3) with a party of 4 5th level pcs (elf beguiler, elf wizard, drow rogue, halfling druid) and not one of us dropped from lost of hp or anything (though the druid did use a wand of clw)... that was a tough little free-for-all. What's the longest low level fight you can remember (preferably against a single opponent)? |

It required a custom battle map that was 4'x4'. Took our entire gaming session, started at 1pm so really 3pm, and lasted until 7am with a single break for dinner, about an hour, and about 12 rounds. Most of our combats only last 3 rounds tops of course but this was, almost literally, epic. |

The cleric had absolutely no chance to turn them with greater turning, and people were starting to lose more and more CON. After about the first hour, the party was down a player and up a Wraith, but he got dusted by the RSoP. The party finally pulled itself into a defensive huddle where everyone with a weak fort save was surrouned by folks with reach weapons and good fort saves, so I finally called the DWs off (they are more inteligent that most PCs, even most wizards). One other time I toyed with a level 6-8 party for a good 3 hours with a Dread Wraith. They finally managed to kill it by having the wizard ready an action to use a Wand of Benign Transposition to swap the big angry fighter with the DWs current target, and liberal application of Magic Missles. |
