Well here's the deal... All my friends play Dungeons and Dragons but they wont let me play because I'm a girl (ha we're all 20 and over... surprisingly enough)! Well tomorrow they're giving me a shot and I have to face them all in an arena battle (one on one)... if I end up winning they'll let me play with them! I really would like to win...

Here the deal:
Everyone gets 21,000 XP and 19,000 gold... that's around a level 8 character? We have to do what ever we can with this set up as our base.

They've all been playing for about three years and are fairly familiar with how everything works...

Can anyone help me build a character? Sadly I'm on a time limit and they're only giving me tonight to build my character and research what I can get.

The Battles:
At the end of every character battle they're letting all the items purchased be automatically replenished and the HP go back to full. Experience is still gained and we won't have to roll for health because they're letting it be max health for every level and every character.

Can anyone help me out?? It would be much appreciated!! :D

And I hope that made sense!! Sorry!~~~

I'd say Cleric, with Divine Power and such. Or maybe Tome of Battle. What books can you use?

Come on, folks, let's help this girl out! Fight sexual discrimination at the table!

Here's some help:

Say "screw them" and forget it. Find yourself a different group. They obviously don't actually want to play with you--which says something pretty bad, since 20--and even 15--is LONG past time to get over any retarded "No Girls Allowed" crap.

The best case scenario is that this is their equivalent of the Guy's Night Out, which makes it still jerky but not as bad. The worst-case scenario is that, basically, they're sexist pigs rather than actual friends. Either way, this is just a thinly veiled way to get a reason to say no.

So, screw'em, and find yourself a new group.

---

With that said:
Buy a Candle of Invocation. Use the Gate ability to bring in something epic and have it squish them real fast.

None (well, there's always exeptions) will build a character from scratch, without knowing what you want to play, what books are allowed etc.

Thats just asking too much.

Look into http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=482636 and pick a build from the Builds section (after chapter 8).

And they're not letting you play because you're a girl? Jeez, are they all gay?

Hmmm ... what can you use? Any material?

There are a number of dirty tricks you can use. Can you still HIVE / Dark Speech for near infinite power? Master of Shrouds maybe ...

But yeah ... Candle of Invocation. It's cheap and should do the trick.

I can use any books really and get any weapons haha.... it's just I don't have the time to look through all of them with only a days notice... or to go through and pick spells etc etc ... so I thought I would ask for help! :D

Haha and yes it is a cheap way to keep girls out but you see they've invited girls before (the non-DND type, if you get my drift) and the said girls have wrecked it for me as they had no imagination and didn't play that well... so I'm on the line to prove I'm a girl that can play an RPG with the boys haha.

Setting aside the fact that a bunch of gay guys would be more likely to have zero problems with a girl playing, inviting a girl to play in your game so you can hit on her or stare at her breasts is just as bad as the boys-club crap these guys are pulling.

Look, they obviously don't want you there. Do you really think they'll *let* you win, no matter what, even if you somehow manage to? It's not worth trying to force them to accept you, IMO. They're pulling something ridiculously sexist on you; tell'em what a bad thing that is and find a new group.

That aside, again, the Candle of Invocation. Use the Gate effect to bring in a Titan or Solar or something. Order it to help you win this arena as best as it can.

You know, somehow I think even if you manage to beat all of them they'll probably come up with another excuse/test to tell you.

I'd call them out on their gender descrimination. If that doesn't work spray your cooties all over them (they'll take -4 to the save).

Elf Sorceror, use enervation, lots. Jack up your Dex and Cha for bonus spells, shouldn't take more than 3-4 to knock someone out. It's even possible to do it in 2.

You could also take sudden empower and sudden maximize to really put the hurt on them. I'm AFB right now, but maybe warmage for free suddens and being able to wear some decent armor? I dunno how many spells per day they get though. You probably only need to be able to take three or four shots.

Okay! Some resources to help you...

www.d20srd.org

That can get you a bunch of psionic stuff, in addition to the things in the PHB.

http://www.pathguy.com/cg35.htm
An okay character generator. You will still have to edit things, but it can get you started.
and here are some more campagin specific versions
http://www.pathguy.com/fr.htm
http://www.pathguy.com/eberron.htm

What books can you get access to real quick?

Also, google the terms "realmshelps dandello" to find a webpage that I'm not supposed to link to, as well as the term "crystalkeep" to find another page I'm probably not supposed to link to.

Also, here are the stats for a solar:

Look at that, and do your best to understand it and it's abilities, if you will be gating one in!

Okay!! And what strategies should I use?

Read what the Candle of Invocation does.

"In addition, burning a candle also allows the owner to cast a gate spell, the respondent being of the same alignment as the candle, but the taper is immediately consumed in the process."

Gate: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/gate.htm

"The second effect of the gate spell is to call an extraplanar creature to your aid (a calling effect). By naming a particular being or kind of being as you cast the spell, you cause the gate to open in the immediate vicinity of the desired creature and pull the subject through, willing or unwilling."
...
"A controlled creature can be commanded to perform a service for you. Such services fall into two categories: immediate tasks and contractual service. Fighting for you in a single battle or taking any other actions that can be accomplished within 1 round per caster level counts as an immediate task; you need not make any agreement or pay any reward for the creature’s help. The creature departs at the end of the spell."
...
"In the case of a single creature, you can control it if its HD do not exceed twice your caster level."

Since the spell is being cast by the candle, it's the Candle's caster level that's in question. The candle reads "CL 17th".

That means you can call in any creature of 34 HD or less. Take ranks in Knowledge: the Planes so it's a creature your character could know about.
The Titan has 20 HD, and can use Gate as a Spell-Like Ability at no cost to itself. This means that if you give it the task "win this arena while following my tactical advice" and then tell it to use Gate to bring in another Titan and tell it the same thing, it will do so.
So now you have two Titans. That Titan can do the same thing. basically, you can have as many Titans as you want...

...but just one should be enough. You can have it use its Maze spell-like ability to keep you safe while it fights your opponents for you.

Do you know how big the arena is gonna be? If it's small enough for you to charge first turn then something like this should whack them into next week (literally)...

Goliath 1
Barbarian 1 Power Attack
Fighter 1 Improved Bull Rush
Fighter 2 Dungeoncrasher I, Knockback
Fighter 3
Fighter 4 Improved Initiative
Fighter 5 Shock Trooper
Fighter 6 Dungeoncrasher II

Basic schtick is to win Initiative, Rage, then Shock Trooper charge them to one shot kill them before smashing the corpse into the side of the arena with Dungeoncrasher (if the first hit didn't kill them then this'll finish them off).

If you can use Flaws then take two (Shaky and Inattentive ... in fact, since they're being twats just take two flaws and don't bother asking if its ok), then move Improved Initiative to one of your flaw feats, take Martial Study (Wall of Blades) at Fighter 4 (that covers your arse just in case the uber-charge doesn't kill them) and Intimidating Rage for a free action shaken on them as you charge. Also, take the Aggressive Trait while you're at it for another +2 Initiative.

Grab some magic items to help with your speed (to make sure you can reach with the charge). Boots of Striding and Springing is the obvious choice. You also want a Valorous weapon (double damage on a charge).

Sources:
Goliath + Knockback = Races of Stone
Shock Trooper & Intimidating Rage = Complete Warrior
Dungeoncrasher = Dungeonscape
Everything else = Player's Handbook

Otherwise, yeah, Candle of Invocation is just about the most broken thing in the game.

Because that's way too complicated for someone basically brand-new to the game, and Candle of Invocation is already as unfair as you get.

Oh, yeah, Akinom--before you actually do this thing, make sure you get all the rules. As officially as possible, from whoever is running that thing. Have him type them up. Otherwise, you're bound to run into "umm... no summoning allowed!", *after* you already try it.

Heya Akinom! You should REALLY keep it simple, and use the links I showed you to help you make characters!

Also, IM me... I sent you a PM...

Guys, maybe we can help her make a "core/SRD" cleric? Something simple? With all the rules being legitimately online?

Yes, if you can get official rules, that would be great! Stuff like:

"D&D 3.5, most current errata and rules as using the official FAQ. 30 Point buy. Characters have 21,000 XP and 19,000 gp to spend however they want (ie, crafting, getting higher level adjustments, etc.) No custom items, only items that are written up in the allowed sources are allowed. Uses the Cavern map from this thread http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=5179891#post5179891 as the arena, with the default starting positions. Each character has three rounds to self-buff or do whatever without interference before combat starts. Books allowed: PHB, DMG, MM, PHB II, DMG II, XPH, the first set of Completes. Rules available to normal characters that are on www.d20srd.org also available. If the character wins a fight, they start fresh for the next fight (ie, they enter the fight with the same amount of hit points, the same items, same per day abilities, etc. as they started with)."

That changes things a lot. You can't really afford multiple Candles of Invocation.

So ask them what happens to consumable items--do you need one for every fight?

What about things like per-day abilities (like barbarian rage) and spell slots? Do those refresh between fights?

Can you prepare different spells between fights? Do you get to know ahead of time who you'll be fighting?

Is it round-robin or single-elimination?

Like a brand new fight everyday

Choose spells at the start but I don't get to change for who I'm fighting, spells are replenished after every battle but I don't get to tailor them to whom I'm against next (random selection)

They do many things to make the fights as "fair" as possible... you might want to look to see what rules they have to make PVP fights as "balanced" as they can be...

Indeed you need as much help as you can get.

I think the best advice is the one LogicNinja already gave.
Don't play with those jerks. I mean, the condition to let a newbie join the game is to beat a bunch of more experienced players in a contest that leaves one of the most important parts of RPG outside. The actual role play what do they want you to probe on an arena anyway? even if you lose that means nothing. And even if you win, this is just my opinion, you won't have fun because they clearly don't want you there anyway.

But for god's sake, please beat the out of them anyway!

The candle of invocation = win
also remember other one of the nasties tricks around there, the Dust of Sneezing and Choking from the DMG (cursed item). Banned on my regular table
just toss it at people = also win

Also I think that the idea of a Venerable Dragonwrought Kobold with epic feats would be really nice!
need:
Desert Kobold - Unearthed Arcana
Dragonwrought - Feat Races of the Dragon
Epic Feats - Epic Handbook

also, beware if any of the guys from that table could be a lurker around here.
I might come back with better suggestions

Anyway, just a thought.

Great advice. I just wanted to make sure she understands that you're suggesting that she has the Titan use Maze on her character. That way, she is totally invulnerable while the Titan mops the floor with her opponent.

Other than that, you just need to make sure you live long enough to use the Candle of Invocation. I'd suggest buying a tower shield, and starting out taking total cover from it, or something similiar.

i hate to say it, but if your fighting to win, and want to really destroy them for hating on you because your a girl, i would actually suggest a pun-pun build. why? just to teach them an idiotic lesson
/flame suit on
yea i know it makes it not fun, but i think she would have fun winning and proving that gender don't matter

BUT, to do it legally, I would suggest making your race a human maybe? with a lycanthropic swarm template(yea, thats core). bat swarm. why? because you will be immune to ALL targeted attacks. then, take some spell-casting progression. I would suggest cleric with a few sexy domains, can't think of any off the top of my head( there are HUNDREDS)
or a warrior build of some sort with
Power attack, leap attack, and some other sexy feats.

A barbarian/fighter type (c'mon guys) with power attack, leap attack, shock trooper and combat brute.(these are feats you can take from PHB, Complete Warrior, and Complete Adventurer. Note the prerequisite feats.) Make sure you get improved init if you have the extra feat, and plow into your opponents with single-hit kills. If they dont die in the first round, you can wipe the floor with them in the next round. You'll be using a two handed weapon (it doesnt even have to be that magical, a +1 will do. Potions of heroism will up your survival, as well as freedom of movement.)

Also play a -male- character for this 'test game'. Buy -potions- that will restore your health if you are low. Obtain something which gives you -break enchantment- for the stupid scenario that you dont one-hit kill the wizard, and he uses Forcecage on you. A brazier of summoning X elementals may come in handy if you have the cash.

Over all, and aside from the Candle of Invocation, I think your bst best is a Druid.

Take a Fleshraker Dinosaur (Monster Manual 2 iirc) as your Animal Companion and use one of your buffing rounds to cast Venomfire on it. That'll make it do ridiculous amounts of damage. Use your Swift action that round to cast Nature's Favor (Spell Compendium) on it as well.

Buffing round 2 = Cast Bite of the Wereboar (Spell Compendium) on yourself.

Then, buy a Belt of Battle (Magic Item Compendium) and use 2 charges for an extra standard action. Then use that action to Wild Shape into a Fleshraker as well.

Third buffing round = cast Venomfire on yourself.

So, for feats we're looking at:

Human Power Attack
Druid 1 Improved Initiative
Druid 2
Druid 3 {Another feat}
Druid 4
Druid 5
Druid 6 Natural Spell
Druid 7
Druid 8

When combat starts have your Fleshraker charge and full attack anyone in range. You do the same (but you can also use that 1 remaining Belt of Battle charge to get an extra move action - so if they start out of charge range try and move towards them and then charge).

That should be enough to kill anyone in one round really.

Hey akinom! Sorry to hear about those guys being sexist...I'm 21 years old, and at my age I really can't believe someone would actually say "no girls are allowed". I swear they're all 10 year olds in the bodies of 20+ year olds rofl

But anyway, I'd just look for a different group if I was you. Then again, I suppose you really like one of the guys in the group so maybe that's why you're going against the advice of finding another group ^.- If you're doing it because you really wanna play and can't find another group, then I hope they let you play and change their views.

In any case, you got lots of advice here, and I see you settled for a candle of invocation. I wanted to give a bit of advice too, but you're gonna win anyway, so kick some butt!

Oh and, do tell us how it went, please I'm dying to know.
