| #1bjorsaMay 16, 2008 11:47:48 | Optimizing a sorcerer surely should involve using the Incantatrix' Metamagic Effect ability to apply Persistent Spell on Arcane Spellsurge (DrM)? However, I found it isn't that easy. Now, the spell is lev 7, making the spellcraft check (18+11x3=) 51. Add Incantatrix Improved Meta and we get 48. Even if we throw in Practical Metamagic we get DC 45. Let's say you are level 16. Spellcraft is max 19 ranks, add 1 for int mod (this is a sorcerer's trick after all), add 2 for Knowledge Arcana spin-off, maybe Skill Focus Spellcraft if we're going I7V. We get 45-19-1-2-3=20. So this forces a roll of 20. We are obviously going to do this by means of a scroll and not waste a spell slot on a one-timer. Is there a spell or something that lets you take 20 for this roll? Or temporary boost Spellcraft checks? Some other trick perhaps you know of? (Pulling this trick lets sorcerers catch up on the wizards, especially with Metamagic Specialist, Practical Metamagic and the Wings spells from RotD. So there, wizard-huggers.) |
| #2bjorsaMay 16, 2008 12:39:47 | I was initially thinking Aid Another, but I can't imagine any DM find it sensible to let a horde of level 1 mages actually furthering this cause. Could create a magic item perhaps, but it would be obscenely expensive to boost Spellcraft that high. Anything in MiC? Come on folks, help me out! |
| #3altpersonaMay 16, 2008 12:46:49 | use a spell to boost your int for a couple. and get a marshal buddy to motivate your int.. should be able to get the roll to 10 easy. UMD synergy for +2 spellcraft w/ scrolls. |
| #4eepopMay 16, 2008 12:55:14 | Moment of Prescience perhaps? |
| #5tshernMay 16, 2008 12:58:13 | Ring of Spellcraft +20 costs 40k. Buy one. |
| #6VaelMay 16, 2008 13:04:34 | Why not use one of your free metamagic usages that Incantatrix gives? Other options: the feat: Shape Soulmeld (Mage's Spectacles) grants you a minimum of a +6 to spellcraft. More if you get more essentia. |
| #7tshernMay 16, 2008 13:05:36 | Starting at +4 actually. |
| #8sinfire_titanMay 16, 2008 13:12:55 | There is a Cleric spell that gets a max of +15 insight bonus to a single skill check in the Spell Compendium. Plus you can use Servant Horde and Create Fetch (SC and CS) to get assist rolls. Rings that grant competence bonuses are pretty cheap. An Item Familiar works wonders. |
| #9VaelMay 16, 2008 13:20:39 | Starting at +4 actually. Darn, Shape Soulmeld has no inherent Essentia. I though it did. |
| #10tshernMay 16, 2008 13:20:52 | Divine insight is the spell. |
| #11operation_shoestringMay 16, 2008 14:32:29 | Divine insight is the spell. Guidance of the Avatar gives +20, and the two stack. Yay for divination |
| #12reisMay 16, 2008 14:47:23 | Ring of Spellcraft +20 costs 40k. Buy one. this. you can also get a +30 one based on the custom item creation rules in the back of the DMG. Most sane DM's won't let you get away with this, but it is 100% legit by RAW. |
| #13bjorsaMay 16, 2008 15:26:05 | Guidance of the Avatar, dagnabit what a killer solution! With divine insight it's through the roof with little effort. How do you know what stacks and what doesn't? There are a number of spells granting morale bonus, insight bonus, ability boosts, divine insight and divine power... I have no clue how to combine these. You guys are amazing! |
| #14bjorsaMay 16, 2008 16:42:24 | Divine Insight is only personal... not for arcane casters then. |
| #15operation_shoestringMay 16, 2008 18:58:13 | Divine Insight is only personal... not for arcane casters then. pst. Unseen Seer. You can enter it at level 13 using cross class skill ranks if your really want to. |
