| #1deathmondApr 17, 2008 0:16:59 | This is for someone else in a campaign I'm in who's just joining and was thinking of making an Incantrix. Is there an Incantrix Handbook around somewhere? I know there's a guide to just about everything else, so it seems odd that I can't find one for the Incantrix. |
| #2phaxiApr 17, 2008 1:19:33 | Handbooks for single PrCs are very rare. This is probably the closest to one around. |
| #3logicninjaApr 17, 2008 1:24:11 | There's no need for a handbook. You're an Incantatrix. Sit back and soak up the win. |
| #4deathmondApr 17, 2008 1:37:20 | I realize that, but this is his first caster build (well, first one to ever take a metamagic feat at any rate) and he's lost as to what to take. Also needs to know the best ways to boost spellcraft. I've played plenty of casters, but never an incantrix before. I'll check the link now... |
| #5logicninjaApr 17, 2008 1:40:08 | If this is his first* caster, he shouldn't take Incantatrix. *Or any other number--Incantatrix is just too good for play. |
| #6deathmondApr 17, 2008 1:49:18 | Nothing's too good for play! Except pun-pun...or other infinite loops... But the incantrix doesn't fall into those categories, so it's fine. This is the DM that ruled since maneuvers are the melee equivalent of spells, my crusader can ready less than his full allotment of daily maneuvers, so the incantrix'll be fine unless he starts getting into the REALLY cheesy stuff. (come to think of it...persistent wraithstrike for my crusader DOES sound nice...j/k) Oh, and I had already seen that link. Thank you anyway. |
| #7logicninjaApr 17, 2008 1:55:04 | Well then, what's to know? Take Persistent Spell. There are non-custom Spellcraft-boosting items, in the Complete Adventurer at least, I think also in the MIC. Persist spells like Greater Blink and Greater Mirror Image and Flight of the Dragon and Greater Ironguard and etc. Maybe take Chain Spell (and maybe Reach Spell) and chain buffs. |
| #8fractalsoulApr 17, 2008 7:11:59 | For spellcraft boosting, I recommend the Item Familiar feat from Unearthed Arcana, if you can get it allowed. An unnamed skill bonus equal to 1/3 your skill points (with a max of the invested ranks) will let you get your check up pretty high without too much investment (a 2k gp item that does something else as well and your 3rd level feat slot), and give you the gravy too (+10% xp, a bonus spell slot, and a few more abilities (including dedicated powers) as you level). Actually, I pretty much recommend that feat universally. Also, Otuygh's Hole for the Iron Will requirement, and possibly Metamagic Storm for the mm feat requirement. And don't let him give up any school but evocation. Point him towards the Playing God guide and it's linked spell school guides, then point his character at the bad guys and watch the Glory. ~FS |
| #9Treantmonklvl20Apr 17, 2008 10:17:14 | Well - if "everything but Pun Pun" is allowed - then Item Familiar should be fine, but not your most powerful choice.Nothing's too good for play! Except pun-pun...or other infinite loops... This is a dangerous precedent for a DM to set - there are a lot of Theoretical builds out there that don't involve infinite loops. Based on these "non" limits of your DM - I would suggest your ultimate power build is: - Wiz 5/Mage of the Arcane Order 2/ Incantrix 4/Exemplar 9 Since this build can power and program nanites - thats a +200 spellcraft check - which will power any ridiculous use of Cooperative Metamatic and Metamagic Effect that can be imagined in any sick mind. Not that you need it - since you can wade into combat and hit everything and be impossible to hit etc, etc, etc... |

Why let a champaign become a sensless carnage? Would it be fun to just be invincible and wade trough any encounter easily? Do not lose the flavour of this wonderful game transforming it in an armament run (the DM usually wins anyway...) |
| #11thantisJun 01, 2009 23:23:47 | I have seen more than one version of an incantrix. Which one is used in 3.5? |
| #12danduJun 01, 2009 23:28:23 | You know the Incantatrix that is found online? Not that one. |
| #13thantisJun 01, 2009 23:33:23 | If it is the one that is in the forgotten realms that is not online, can you send the stats? |
| #14danduJun 01, 2009 23:55:56 | No check, no tech :p |
| #15thantisJun 02, 2009 0:42:40 | Okay. Thanks anyway. I am building a 13th level wizard character for a campaign. Do you have any suggestions regarding classes and PrCs? I know it will be a wizad of around 5 levels to start with. |
| #16danduJun 02, 2009 0:45:22 | It's probably around *somewhere* online, just so you know. |
| #17thantisJun 02, 2009 0:59:35 | I looked for the forgotten realms incantrix for a little while but could not find it. I have wanted that book for awhile. We run a FR that just started, so I should get it. We only play every few weeks. It should be here by then but the group I need the incantrix with starts sooner. |
| #18Dictum_MortuumJun 02, 2009 2:17:02 | magic of faerun -> old version incantatrix player's guide to faerun -> revised version I have an incantatrix handbook somewhere (well, mostly a collection of notes). If i find time to finish it, i will certainly upload it. |
| #19thantisJun 02, 2009 6:15:58 | That would be great. |

Here is the 3.0, and vaguely more balanced, Incantatrix. |
