Is it even possible?

Short Version: Can you get a specific creature's extraordinary ability for yourself?

Long Version: Can you, specify a creature, specify a certain one of their extraordinary abilities, and through a process of magic, feats, rituals or whatnot retain it as a personal, permanent ability?

If you want further details, just ask, but I'm curious enough from a purely hypothetical stance. Assume any books, wizards published. I ask here, because if anyone can do it, you guys can. Thanks in advance!

Isn't this how Pun-Pun was born? Look into the sarrukh.

Also look at the "Breaking the Core" thread on the Theoretical board.

I can't say for sure, but I remember LOP needed to be able to gain the Extraodinary abilties of a beholder to be able to take Beholder Mage class.

Look at LoP's Dirty Trick #1
Edit: Phaedix ninjaed me. Pun Pun's trick is based off LoP's original I believe. I don't remember if it included a detailed description of the how.

The what? I'm not familiar with what you might be referring to. Is it another thread?

loganic1: His trick works pretty well for supernatural, but the specific ability I'm looking at is extraordinary. Now I'm not sure how much difference it makes, but I'm also looking to retain my original form and race.

Read and be enlightened, my brother.

Yarg. Great, good, and wonderful, but is that the only way to do it? I realize that for questions like this Manipulate Form is the Holy Grail, but is it possible any other way? Down that path lies madness, I fear. And beyond hypothetical-ness, I am investigating this for a character intended to be playing in a campaign with a sane DM (Read: wouldn't allow Pun-Pun Shenanigans). If there's not another way, that's alright, but I just wanted to know.

PhaedrusXY: I searched for that thread, but couldn't find it. Link, possibly? Much thanks!

You could use the fusion power with whatever has the ability.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand how that will help. I looked over the class, but all I saw was wildshape benefits and planar travel related things.

PhaedrusXY: Thanks for the link, I'll look it over, see if I can find anything useful.

Preliminarily, it's looking like there's not going to be an easy or simple way to do this.....
