#1 uhm_hoi Jun 13, 2011 6:25:50	The title basically says it all. I want to make a 3.5 wizard using mostly spells like ray of enfeeblement, enervation etc. I want to use arcane thesis on enervation and use metamagic feats like quicken spell, split ray and chain spell on it. Is precise shot worth it for this wizard? I do plan on using lots of ranged touch attacks and will most likely be forced to fire them into melee and the bab is not good. Though they are touch attacks, so that makes hitting stuff a little easier and I have access to guided shot. What are your opinions on this?

Ranged touch attacks will in most cases be your bab + dex vs +10 + 4 cover (You'll be wanting a BSF between you and the target) +4 (into melee) + size +dex +deflection So at low levels even touch attacks can be a problem - even more so because lower CR creatures then to be small (so +1 for size and some dex). Here you might miss - so point blank shot isn't that bad - also you'll run out of spells and start using a crossbow... Midt levels Monsters tend to be bigger - large even - so their touch AC goes down. Your bab goes up ever so slowly. Here you might still miss - but there is a rod i Cm - that gives you precise shot - ~10k gp. This can be a heavy investment at midt levels. Also heroics is a 2 lvl spell - but you need point blank shot. At high levels monster just got really big, but their touch AC shouldn't be a problem anymore. You can afford the rod mentioned above, dex item and you would much rather have metamagic feats. So if retraining is allowed - you could benefit at low levels, and it's ok. if you can't retrain - suck it up and miss a few times. If you start midt to high level buy the item don't use 2 feats. Also Chain spell is bad for enervation 1d4 quickly becomes 1d2 and 1. Better to split, empower, maximize and twin - in that order. Also look into Fell drain (LM) if you want to deliver neg levels to more target - that just better - use it with a quickend low level area or multi target spell - like jet of steam (cm), scorching ray or magic missile. And finally ray of enfeablement is a nice low level debuff - but have a look at ray of stupidity (SpC) - I say have a look because I don't have my books with me.
