Is this optimized or abuse or just silly?

Nov 23, 2008 15:47:48 I had a wizard that went L6 Enchanter (wizard specialist), L1 Fighter, L3 Spellsword, L10 Eldrich Knight.

Her spell list wasn't quite set to make the most of it, but she had the spells to boost her weapons to be competitive (Though she was mostly an NPC unless someone else wanted to run a session). With an evoker specialization or at least not having evocation banned, a 17 bab, and level 9 spells and arcane strike, would that be a decently optimized combat mage?

Nov 23, 2008 16:05:14 It's ok. Basic "gish". Nothing spectacular. With the right buffs, it could do well. What has evocation got to do with it, though? That's often the first school banned on here.

Nov 23, 2008 16:13:51 Also, three levels of Spellsword is two too much. Change the last two for Abjurant champion and then take three more from Eldritch knight if at all possible. For a gish, that is not optimized, but you still are a Wizard, so you will get to the finish line before any melee characters.

Nov 23, 2008 16:27:24 The 3 levels gave me the armor fail % ignore I wanted for my gear I had in mind. Evocation has a lot of spells like thunder staff that could be nasty with multiple attacks in a round. Or at least it seems like it does.

Nov 23, 2008 16:29:49 Ignore the percentage altogether and use Abjurant champion. Greater mage armor alone would net you +11.

Nov 23, 2008 16:38:05 Well that's an optimization factor that would be better for a true optimized character rather than one who made magic gear and decided she wanted to wear some of it. I don't think Abjurant was around when I made the character, anyway. Thanks. I'll use it for a future character.

Twilight Mithril Plate with Thistledown Padding gets you casting in full plate with no ASF from one level in Spellsword.

Greater Mage Armor doesn't benefit from Abjurant Champion so it would still be +6 not +11 unless it was houseruled.

Don't worry about those evocation spells....you're better off with Wraithstrike (w/Power Attack and a two handed weapon), GMW, Greater Mighty Whallop, Greater Enlarge Person, Polymorph, Heroics, Heroism, etc.
