I was wondering what all granted turn undead in the way of items and feats, and I suppose classes too, besides Cleric and Paladin. Keep in mind though with classes i'm looking for one that grants turn undead within the first five levels, and has the best BAB bonus progression. i dont think it exists so im focusing on items/feats. my reason for this is im currently in an undead heavy campaign and i'm going to Gestalt a fighter/rogue. i was looking at the skullclan hunter and i really like it, a lot. i dont want to take a level in cleric, at all because of the BAB loss, and 4 levels in paladin is... well... stupid, even if it didnt have the restrictions. so, i need feats/items that can grant me turn undead. id prefer items seeing as i dont want to waste feats for something i'll never use but if its the only option i will.  Items>Feats>Class levels.

The Holy Monk from Dragon 310 gets you Smite Evil, Turn Undead, and Aura Of Courage, Combine on your Rogue side with Ascetic Rogue to get the Monk's unarmed progression to stack with Rogue.

It doesn't give you full BAB, but its not bad.

Also, don't Gestalt Fighter/Rogue, use something from TOB instead: Crusader or Warblade.

im not a fan of the crusader or warblade, they arent bad in my opinion, just not for me. some of the best characters ive made were fighters, im really fond of the bonus feats. i'll give them another look, i just prefer the versatility and the customization of the fighter. i'll look at the holy monk, i dont really care for monks either though (i prefer either armor and sword and board or rogue/ninja. im a decent cleric but im not playing that). i should also have stated that AC from armor in our campaign is DR instead. i have a chain shirt, instead of 4 AC i have 4 DR. if that matters at all, im going to be stacking DR (i can only stack so much seeing as AC from a shield is still AC, and magic bonus is AC, like a +5 chain shirt would give me 5AC and 4DR)

A shroudcrown (Player's Guide to Fearun) gives turn undead, but it costs 113,600 gp, so I don't think it will work for you.

If you took the nercromantic bloodline and kin mastery feats (Dragon Compendium), you get turn undead, but you'd need to be able to spontaneously cast 3rd-level arcane spells to qualify.

If you took the god touched and divine channeler feats (Dragon 305) you gain turn undead.

I'd like to point out though, that two feats has about the value of four levels in fighter, which is what you'd be giving up by using paladin.

Planar Touchstone (Catalogues of Enlightenment) will give you a domain granted power of your choice.  The Sun domain from DLCS (as opposed to the PHB version) will give you turning.  One feat!  Alternatively, a domain draught of the same will work, albeit temporarily.

There's also a druid spell on one of the WotC online spellbook articles that creates a bone that can be used to turn undead.  Don't recall the name offhand - Bone Talisman maybe?

yea true, the only difference being the annoying paladin code and maybe hit dice? the code and alignment requirement is a problem though, as well as the spells. id just take one level in cleric but i dont want spells, granted id ignore them anyways and not even track them but still.

the sun domain doesnt give you turning, it trades in an existing standard turning for a greater turning (unless there is some new material i dont know about) i'll look into the thing you mentioned. original plan is to get a..... sword of the crypt i believe its called from the arms and equipment guide and use the skill to emulate the class ability turn undead. cheaper then the shroudcrown by roughly 60% and it has the added benefit of actually being useful till i can sell it (its a longsword that my parties cleric can use).

Again, not the PHB Sun domain.  You want the Dragonlance Campaign Setting version.

As written up on page 104 of Player's Guide to Faerun, the sun domain is “mystic only.”  Catalogues of Enlightenment specifies “cleric domain,” so that's a problem.

On the other hand, pages 49 through 50 say “A mystic chooses one domain from those available to clerics, including the domains in the Player's Handbook (even Sun, which is not granted by any of the living deities of Krynn, but not magic) ….” and “A mystic who chooses the sun domain gains the ability to turn undead as her granted power, and she cannot perform a greater turning.”  This would suggest that there's only one sun domain and mystics just gain a different benefit from it than others.

the code and alignment requirement is a problem though, as well as the spells.

Admittedly, there's little that can be done about the code of conduct and alignment restrictions.  I've always thought paladin of freedom looked more palatable, but that's just trading one set of restrictions for another.  The spells you can get rid of though.  Complete Champion has the holy warrior alternative class feature, which gives you bonus feats instead of spells.  Of course, the bonus feat list is very limited, and the only generally interesting ones are power attack and cleave.

ah, didnt notice the difference, makes sense now

maat - yea the paladins have a lot of restrictions im not terribly fond of. i'll probably just do the sword of crypts thing (assuming i can get one in game). i dont wanna take a class level in anything to accomplish this, if i need to i'll just take one in cleric and have some mildly useful level 0 spells
