please, anyone, tell me where you can see that it is really true.

or send me an e-mail please: isleif_pe@yahoo.com.br

Here's the entry for Kobolds ---> http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/kobold.htm

It says:
Abilities: Str 9, Dex 13, Con 10, Int 10, Wis 9, Cha 8

It also says:
Kobold characters possess the following racial traits.

* -4 Strength, +2 Dexterity, -2 Constitution.

The discrepency between the two is weird but, for most monsters with LA+0, you just subtract 2 or 3.
{ ... i.e. str 6+ , dex 10+ , con 8+ but the MM1 kobold is even weaker than it should be ... }
Then add in a 15 or 28 (or whatever) point build on top.
The jermaline conversion is accurate.

Like I posted in your other thread, subtract 10 from even scores and 11 from odd scores to get a creatures ability score adjustments.

The kobold is wierd because, unlike most of the other monsters in the books, it's dosn't have the standard ability score array of 3 10's and 3 11's. It instead uses the 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8 ability score array. (It says so in the description.)

That's the weird thing about the entry.

13 , 12-2 , 11-2 , 10 , 9 , 8 .

It doesn't reflect what kobold characters are supposed to get.
No wonder everyone kills kobolds.

It does reflect what a kobold is supposed to get, it just dosn't use the standard array. Most (if not all) of the LA +0 races with NPC classes use the non-elite array of 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8. (Look at the elf, dwarf, orc, etc.)

A standard kobold warrior (like the one in the MM) has the following ability score before racial adjustments:

Str 13, Dex 11, Con 12, Int 10, Wis 9, Cha 8

And after the racial adjustments:
Str 9, Dex 13, Con 10, Int 10, Wis 9, Cha 8

Giving the following ability score adjustments: Strength -4, Dex +2, Con -2. Just like the book says all kobolds get.

okay steven, ty, but where did you read that you must subtract in that way.
and where can i read it is LA 0.

I mean read in an official book.

On page 290, 3.5 MM, under Ability Score Arrays, it says "Monsters are assumed to have completly average (or standard) ability scores - a 10 or an 11 in each ability, as modified by their racial bonuses."

Ability score adjustment's must always be an even number. (Not sure if it actually says that anywhere, but 99.9% of the board will agree with it.) Since most monsters have 10's and 11's in their scores before adjustments, subtracting 10 or 11 from their final score will give the adjustment.

And for an official LA, I'm not sure there is an official source for it. MM2 is a 3.0 book, before they had LA for monsters. You might check the 3.0 to 3.5 update downloads, or another poster might be able to help you with it.

Savage Species does have guidelines for determining LA.

However, if a creature does not have an LA listed, it is generally unavalable for player use. Savage Species provides some guidlines, but you really should consult your DM before trying to use a creature without an explicit LA.

You have to look at all its abilities. I'm not familiar with the creature, so I don't know the specifics.

Does it have spell-like abilities? Natural armor? Basically, anything special? (I'm not asking for the abilities, just seeing if they have any.) All those also apply to LA. You have to go through the creatures stats and see if it has anything special.

And after you have gotten the LA for all of it's abilities, you then need to playtest the creature to see if it is actually the LA you came up with. If its not, you need to adjust the LA until it is.

And you can't have a -LA. It dosn't work unless the race has some major drawbacks and no abilities to compensate. If the LA would otherwise be negative, it is a LA +0 creature.

Except that Savage Species also has a -2 LA template.. it's a silly book :P

okay, so lets go:

probably it has 0 LA cause it has low light vision, and it is tiny :P, and it is a fey (maybe it counts)

abilities:

str 3 dex 17 con 8 int 8 wis 16 cha 5

so, it would be:

-8 +6 -2 -2 +6 -6

it is a good ninja :0
and it has good modifiers to ref and will saves

ty everybody :D

in the book does not say anything about when we get 10 or 11...

where is it described that on odd we use 11 and on even we use 10?

Oh, and we only deal with "Previous Editions" around these parts.  If you want them converted to WoW 4E, you need to ask over in that neighborhood.

Oh, I don't see where it says that in the thread title..., but I found this thread through browser search. Sorry for intruding.

No.  It's ok to revive posts from long ago but you need to realize that some of that discussion's participants have long since moved on to other things.  To be honest I think it would be great if more people would look at the old threads about their topic instead of just bringing up a new one that will probably end up covering the same things.

Now I guess that pretty soon 4e will also become the Previous Edition.  You'll have a lot better luck asking a 4e question over there right now then you would here however especially since few of them probably even see this thread.
