| #1idontmuchcareforitNov 07, 2008 10:07:45 | I suppose i'll start with who is in the group so far: Warlock, no PrC MMF druid and myself, a transmuter/ Mage of the Arcane Order We have one character left who is undecided. Our party has no tank (though a mmf does it pretty well later on) and no trapfinder and no one that can really heal. I suggested deepwarden... seems to have been well recieved. Anyone have any better suggestions? [no campaign settings, you can use ToB but we've never used it before so try to keep it simple if you do, no MoI, no cityscape or dungeonscape] |
| #2stpetegamerNov 07, 2008 15:28:19 | how about a persisting cleric can tank and do healing, out of comabt preferably, when you need it... I mean this group just screams out cleric to me... |
| #3awaken_D_M_golemNov 07, 2008 15:48:12 | ... with Kobold Domain for the trapfinding. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060420a Best of all, everybody knows you're just a little bit evul ... ![]() |
| #4NiteCyperNov 08, 2008 11:57:50 | I suggest Ted the heiney(-)kicking enabler. He's in SHCOL without the hyphen/dash or in my sig. You can boost his UMD check to use healing items and still have awesome trapfinding. Plus, I hear he's UNBELIEVABLY fun. If you're concerned with healing, check out the Player's Guide to Healing in SHCOL. |
| #5thewizardofthecoastNov 11, 2008 9:20:35 | Cleric can tank. Cleric can heal. Cleric has high wisdom and can put ranks in Spot. Trap-finding is the important thing. If it's found, then the party can set it off safely, or 'shatter' it or whatever. |
| #6idontmuchcareforitNov 11, 2008 10:26:51 | The thought had crossed my mind before i started this thread, but i thought it'd be a waste to have 4 full casters in the group. With no one survivable in an amf. Can a druid use wildshape in an amf? Anyways does the cleric have to be a kobold? My dm is granting us (nerfed)half-dragon templates, not sure if that changes anything. As far as a buffing character... i feel that that would be lost on a group with no one to buff... |
| #7stpetegamerNov 11, 2008 11:00:29 | the point of a DMM persisting cleric is not to buff other people it is to buff yourself with big fat spells like divine favor that then last at least 24 hours thus making you a fighter for all intensive purposes. You have a valid point with the AMF but you have a Warlock he should be a dispelling machine for you so he could always dispell any AMFs |
| #8ChristopherGrovesNov 11, 2008 11:11:09 | You don't need to find traps. Or get more tankages. That's what the druid's animal companion, summons and (if the druid gets bored) the druid is for. What you need is another druid. Kinda just kidding. You can make do with whatever. A summoning druid or cleric or malconvoker can fill lots of your niches. |
| #9ChristopherGrovesNov 11, 2008 11:18:24 | wrong thread sorry |
| #10Dictum_MortuumNov 11, 2008 11:28:52 | I suppose i'll start with who is in the group so far: You want us to suggest only on the last party member? I'd say:

| #11janzenNov 11, 2008 11:57:07 | The thought had crossed my mind before i started this thread, but i thought it'd be a waste to have 4 full casters in the group. With no one survivable in an amf. You can't Wildshape in AMF its a supernatural ability. If your DM is allowing some homebrew version of Half-Dragon template I don't think its very farfetch to have the Kobold Domain. Buffing in general is a good ideal regardless, encounters can be ran smoothly with a few good buffs in my opinion. If ToB is allowed the Warblade or Crusader make very good tanks, That or DMM Cleric but the Druid can heal as well. |
| #12innabinderNov 11, 2008 13:00:24 | Dread Necromancer. Seriously. His skellies can trigger all the traps, he's not horrid as a second Tank if you choose a reach weapon, and he keeps the caster motif going. ![]() |
| #13NiteCyperNov 11, 2008 16:44:41 | Tip: A quick way to get Trapfinding for one feat is Planar Touchstone (Catalogues of Enlightenment [Kobold]). There's no more of a direct way to get it than with that feat rat thurr. Another tip I'd suggest is Innovating Party Design: Method and Application http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-847381. It helps you flesh out what your party is lacking. It is really an unsung thread. Edit: Thread includes Tleilaxu_Ghola's tactical party in the second post or so. They use two Spiked Chain fighters to mitigate damage. They're Crusaders so I think they heal as well which is a +1 for Dictum Mortuum's recommendation. Lastly, remember that parties aren't always perfect. As Tyler Durden once said, “I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say let... lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.” Play the character YOU want to play. Don't promote the stereotype that the perfect party is Wizard, Rogue, Fighter, Cleric, what-have-you. The CO boards have already proven the perfect party only consists of one member... Wizard. |
