| #1multipleheadsMar 03, 2009 16:37:05 | My Dm is obsessed with magic using characters and NPCs, so I figured an anti-magic character would be a solid investment. I'll probably go with the karsite race from Tome of Magic, even though the +2 LA is a tad steep. I was considering maybe The Occult Slayer PrC from Complete Warrior. I'm stuck on what class I should be. My Dm probably won't allow psionics, but I'll try and convince him. Any ideas or suggesions would be appreciated. |

| #3jameswilliamogleMar 03, 2009 16:57:49 | Oh, man, we're so looking at this over on the bg boards... check it out: http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3576.0 http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3763.0 You probably don't need to go to the same shenanigans we're looking at. See if you can use the variant Unearthed Arcana rules to buy back the LA (thus, it will cost you some XP, but you'll still end up ECL 20 at 20th class level). IMO, your best bet is to use Binder and Knight of Sacred Seal as your base, with a single (or double) dip into Barbarian. Barbarians have a combo that beats the Celerity line of spells (though there are still some issues on the specifics). More importantly, this combo basically allows you to go first against anything not immune to fear (and most people think that it fails against Mind Blank, too, though I disagree with that stance). Instantaneous Rage (CWar), Intimidating Rage (CWar), Imperious Command (DotU), and its helped by Never Outnumbered (skill trick, CScoundrel). I setup this as a pretty strong anti-caster setup: Barbarian 2 / Binder 13 / Knight of Sacred Seal 5 / Minor Bloodline 1 BAB: +16 EBL: 20 (full binder vestiges) Saves: F awesome, R ok, W awesome Use Karsus as your patron vestige (also fits the flavor). Feats include the above combo, Mageslayer, and a handful of other feats. I wouldn't worry about Su abilities. I don't personally like Occult Slayer (though I understand its appeal). EDIT: Ninja'd while typing up details! |
| #4multipleheadsMar 03, 2009 18:08:27 | That looks awesome, I was actually itching to play a Binder at some point already. Just a few questions out of ignorance: What's a minor bloodline and what book is it in? What book is Knight of the Sacred Seal in? What weapon should I use? Two handed for Str. bonus (or is that even an issue with squishy casters)? |
| #5jameswilliamogleMar 03, 2009 18:15:10 | That looks awesome, I was actually itching to play a Binder at some point already. Bloodlines are in Unearthed Arcana (or available on the SRD). What book is Knight of the Sacred Seal in? Tome of Magic. Its a full-BAB class w/ full-soulbinding and some other abilities (when you are using a specific vestige which you choose). Binder 15/KoSS 5 gets BAB +16 right at 20th level, which is important if you play epic level. What weapon should I use? Two handed for Str. bonus (or is that even an issue with squishy casters)? See, here its tricky. I prefer going the TWF route, actually, to maximize your chances of hitting the caster (like to initiate a grapple), but 2HF is going to be more useful for more enemies, by far. Either way, its a feat-intense build, so you probably are better off just getting Power Attack and doing 2HF. (lessee... Extra Rage, Instantaneous Rage, Intimidating Rage, Imperious Command, Mageslayer, Power Attack, Weapon Focus... thats it as a Karsite, unless you can use flaws, also in Unearthed Arcana.) LA Buyoff is also in Unearthed Arcana. I HIGHLY recomend it if you play a Karsite. Otherwise, I'm not convinced its worth it. |
