| #1ChristopherGrovesMar 24, 2008 9:32:03 | Got a player in my game, playing a Maug. He wants to continue on with it, but he's trying to come up with a RAW way to help out in death situations. He's a Crusader, so he's plenty tough ... but every once in a while bad stuff happens. I need some help brainstorming here. About the best I can think of are contingent items / spells around resilient sphere (or bead of force ...) or humanoid essence (greater). Anyone got any good, easy, cheap suggestions? |

Basicly, just slide his HP scale so that he has a new "0", and then has some negatives he can go into. But honestly, you shouldn't bend over backwards to fix the problems with being a construct. Remember that he does get a bunch of other things from being a construct, and the vulnerability to destruction is part of that. Also remember that whatever you provide to him, can likely be used by lots of other characters too, so make sure you aren't opening up a can a worms with whatever you give him. |

If there is a RAW way, I think it would be poor not to provide him the info. It won't be free, it won't be painless, etc. I don't see this as bending over backwards ... and I'm not sure why it came across like that. He's looking for RAW ways to prevent dead-construct situations. If that goes against his GP cap, whatever. I see this less as bending over backwards and more as he wants to spend his limited resources on being as unkillable as possible, to the detriment of other capabilities. |

| #5ChristopherGrovesMar 24, 2008 10:35:51 | Healing devotion I've checked - it doesn't meet my RAW meter. The vigor line are also failing due to conjuration healing. The best option I can give him (other than artificer cohort or a similar thrall for the thrallherd) is a contingent spell of some sort. That works (and can do so in a number of ways). |
| #6carnivoreMar 24, 2008 11:31:36 | why not just take the Feat: Draconic Aura(Vigor)... thus he gains Fast healing 1 while at 1/2 heathly total hp or below...and combine with :Ring of Regeneration: This white gold ring continually allows a living wearer to heal 1 point of damage per level every hour rather than every day. (This ability cannot be aided by the Heal skill.) Nonlethal damage heals at a rate of 1 point of damage per level every 5 minutes. If the wearer loses a limb, an organ, or any other body part while wearing this ring, the ring regenerates it as the spell. In either case, only damage taken while wearing the ring is regenerated. nothing is mentioned about Conjuration healing... but it does specify that it works on "Living Wearer".. Living Construct should qualify thus if he was 11th lvl .... he could heal 11hp/hour or 1 hp/round if below 1/2 Total HP :D |
| #7hogarthMar 24, 2008 12:09:35 | If you're allowing custom items, a single-use item of Fiery Discorporation (5th level Kineticist power) would give him a decent shot at surviving destruction. |
| #8ChristopherGrovesMar 24, 2008 12:23:44 | He's a Maug - they are pure constructs - not living. We've got a dragon shaman w/ a vigor aura. The problem isn't healing from 1 to his max ... it's what to do after -1 and preventing that from happening. I could give him a DM-fiat option, but I'd rather find a raw way for him to proceed. |
| #9sonofzealMar 24, 2008 12:31:48 | Paying for a Contingent Repair X Damage seems your best option. He should be able to find a Wizard/Artificer who can set him up. |
| #10sinfire_titanMar 24, 2008 12:39:13 | He's a Maug - they are pure constructs - not living. Well, there is a Raise Outsider and Revive Undead spell, I'm sure someone can invent a "Rebuild Golem" spell. Spell Research is RAW-legal, and if you need rules for it then just use this: Independent Research Phrenitic/Magic transparency would be fully-applicable to this rule. |
| #11ChristopherGrovesMar 24, 2008 13:01:22 | Revive undead? Where be? EDIT: Right there in the SPC. Damn. |
| #12the_mad_linguistMar 25, 2008 0:33:48 | why not just take the Feat: Draconic Aura(Vigor)... thus he gains Fast healing 1 while at 1/2 heathly total hp or below...and combine with : The ring of regeneration is a horrible item. Absolutely awful. Get an item with something from the repair line of spells instead. |
