| #1SylvanPrincessApr 08, 2009 2:40:18 | well my new dm OKed me using a pixie! but he cut the bonuses in half (except strength) He also said we can use ahything as long as he can take a look at it. cool. -4 str, +4 dex, +3 int, +2wis, +3cha. my numbers i rolled are these: 17, 14, 14, 12, 12, 12. my second set i could use are 15, 15, 14, 14, 13, 12. ~which set do i use? my DM rolled a d6 and gave me 4 points to ADD. crazy! he did it to be fair, cuz he did it for another character first. Discipline Focus s the key here as i will be a small character, at 4th level i can add my wis mod into damage rolls whenever i use a strike from the selected discipline. i want to use tiger strike, and maybe a little bit of the shadow hand discipline. tiger allows sweet striking combined with leaping and attacking from above. * my AC will be thru the roof! i am thinkng about introducing flaws to my dm. ive never used them before, but they might work sweetly on this character. also, see my later posts for updated ideas. thought s and ideas? i think i will cross with scout, because there are insane synergies with the tiger strike discipline. UPDATED::::: DEFINATELY crossing with scout. the synergies are awesome. all i have to do is figure out the progression. |
| #2carnivoreApr 08, 2009 5:03:22 | is he still enforcing the +4 LA, with the REDUCED stats? i would actually choose the other stat roll: -4 str, +4 dex, +3 int, +2wis, +3cha. 15, 15, 14, 14, 13, 12. thus you get: 10 Str(14 -4 Racial) 18 Dex(14 +4 Racial) 15 Con(15) 16 Int(13 +3 Racial) 17 Wis(15 +2 Racial) 15 Cha(12 +3 Racial) you will have No penalty to Damage... and better Skills what ever you do ...... DONT LOSE the Wings... for a small Character, the ability to Fly is very strong.... especially with Greater Invisibility!! add the feat Flyby Attack..... to make the most of your Martial Strikes, since they are standard actions i would suggest using a Spiked Chain... giving you many options...especially Reach :D |
| #3hijaxxApr 08, 2009 8:58:43 | yeah, that seems strange to me. same LA, lesser abilities? ![]() |
| #4streaksterApr 08, 2009 9:09:02 | +4 LA? With a half stat bonuses? Man, your DM plays hardball. Anyway, Carnivore's right. Under no circumstances should you lose the wings. None. Be sure to get a reach weapon, especially if you go with the gauntlets. Preferably, a weapon finessable one (like the chain.) As for disciplines...well, the climb walls stance isn't so useful for you. You've got flight, you see. Tiger Claw's best if you dual wield - the gauntlets should work well. If you plan to be in Shadow Hand stances most of the time, look into the Shadow Blade feat. Dex to damage while in a Shadow Hand stance. |
| #5SylvanPrincessApr 08, 2009 11:15:24 | so no. i never said anything about LA lol! he cut the numbers in half so i could start normally without LA. everything i wrote about in my OP was based around LOSING the wings... the spider climb, jumping feats...an example i just thought of might be yoda jumping around in the new star wars movies, except i would want to leap higher. i read carnivores 'guide' to pixies, and i like it, but i dont think i want to cross so many classes. maybe just do 1 or 2 hence scout and swordsage. maybe a prestige later. i hear ya that wings ARE niice, and cool and fly etc, but if i were to ditch them and gain a sick ability/2 for it. such as leap attack and slow fall=to my jump height, without being near a wall. or something. i want to optimize a pixie who was tortured, wings shredded so that she can fly, but like a chicken not a falcon. i just felt like he already let me have incredible bonuses - even if theyre halved - without LA. so losing the wingswould even things up a bit. i also looovvvveee th final fantasy dragoons, so i want to go that direction with this leaping, striking pixie. and i want to do tiger claw route too. more later. need coffee. |
| #6jseahApr 08, 2009 13:12:20 | Losing the wings is viable if the campaign is lower power than most people here are used to or low level. (¬<7) - The only thing being that virtually any compensation for losing the wings is not optimal. Ability to fly all the time at say... level 4, is VERY good. It's essentially immunity to everything without range. - Well, ok, maybe not "any". But it'll have to be something really good, like the kobold ritual for gaining a level of spell progression. And even then, I'll only consider it barely worthwhile. (this is an example to demonstrate the worth of having wings, not that kobolds have them) At higher levels, you're going to need flight, and most people buy magic items to do that if they don't cast spells. Might as well not lose the wings and use the money in other areas. - I think a pixie's flight is Ex, and that is very good at higher levels since you can fly in AMF and not worry about dispels. If you're dead set on losing the wings, then this is really no different from playing a halfling or gnome with different stats and racial abilities. Although G.Invisibility at will is really nice to have. - If you want to use spring attack and similiar abilities, you might want consider flyby attack if you don't lose the wings. |
| #7SylvanPrincessApr 08, 2009 13:48:00 | we are all going to be level 1. it would be different from a halfling in that it would have half-wings, torn but healed. providing a slowfall-like effect when i flap them, and an aid to leaping. being able to fly just seems soooooo cheap, especially when all my party members are going to be somewhat more basic...at least in terms of ability bonuses. |
| #8SylvanPrincessApr 08, 2009 14:18:12 | also, maybe i can regrow them alter in the game as a blessing from my god. or something. this is gonna be a tough campaign i think. hes letting us use wild things, that wouldnt normally be allowed. my friend is a 6'11 elf/dwarve - half and half. doesnt make much sense to me but..... whatever! maybe ill use wings. it would allow for sillyness though, and i dont want to be taking over the party. i want to be part of it. here is an awesome pic of what i imagine myself to look like. |
| #9SylvanPrincessApr 08, 2009 14:26:36 | duplicate post. |
| #10SylvanPrincessApr 08, 2009 14:27:52 | yeh carnivore, i agree to a point about the second set of numbers... i just would like to maybe have one stat that was super... the only reason im still considering the first roll. the issue i have with the example you posted is that my AC wouldnt be crazy, just really good instead. but i see your point.for a name i think.....Kestral? i dont know pixie names... for those of you that dont know, a kestral is a small colorful falcon) |
| #11carnivoreApr 08, 2009 14:52:18 | Awesome Pic.... mind if i put it into the Pixie handbook? if you want to use the first set of numbers: 17, 14, 14, 12, 12, 12. .... try this: -4 str, +4 dex, +3 int, +2wis, +3cha. 10 Str(14 -4 Racial) 21 Dex(17 +4 Racial) 14 Con(14) 15 Int(12 +3 Racial) 14 Wis(12 +2 Racial) 15 Cha(12 +3 Racial) put All lvl boosts into Dex......... you will really boost your ability to hit things(Attack Melee and Ranged), avoid being Hit(AC), act first(Initiative), Ref Save, Hide, Move Silently,etc........ lots of benefits use a SPIKED CHAIN... or Spinning Sword(Secrets of Sarlona) Focus on Shadow Hand Manuvers.... take the feat Shadow Blade as soon as you can..... get DEX to Damage with Spiked Chain!!! Kestral is a Great Name :D |
| #12SylvanPrincessApr 08, 2009 15:37:22 | Awesome Pic.... mind if i put it into the Pixie handbook? ok well um... my intitiative isnt a problem with sword sage seeing as how it has "quick to act" feat progression. i really like the idea of a critical strike build with this character, with first level tiger strike stance 'blood in the water' - +1 to dam and hit for each critical. plus other critical strike strikes and stances. also, strikes like 3rd level 'soaring raptor strike' (ooh kestral reference!) that adds +4 to hit and 6d6 damage when i strike a larger foe. as a faerie er.. pixie, i will most likely be able to strike from above. everyone keeps telling me about shadow hand. while it IS nice, i really like tiger better. but i could splash a little shadow. i got my dm to add blade talons to the list of weapons a tiger strike discipline swordsage can use.this will give me weapon focus with it, and insightful strike later, which is my wis mod to strikes from tiger discipline. why i had a high score in my wis and dex. if i could get your advice on a tiger strike (main discipline) shadow hand (sub discipline) build, that be great! what i want to have/ use: ~tiger strike discipline ~blade talons ~leaping attacks/flying attacks (skirmish from a couple levels of scout here?) ~NOT focusing on hiding. my dex mod will be such that i will be able to hide anyway. plus, i was just looking at some feats from http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=633443 i may be tiny but your dead. there seem to be alot of things i could add to confound my enimies. ~maximize my AC, without hurting my wisdom bonus. again, i want to use the damage bonus from wis. a +5 at level 4 would be pretty nice, especially with the aforementioned soaring raptor strike. wow, i have alot of homework to do, but ill check in on this thread ina bit. :D |
| #13carnivoreApr 08, 2009 15:39:18 | will get something tomorrow morning :D |
| #14SylvanPrincessApr 08, 2009 15:39:34 | as for the pic, youre welcome to use it i guess. i used it, while giving credit to the artist. its on her myspace page, so its out there for the public |
| #15carnivoreApr 08, 2009 15:42:12 | do you have a link to the myspace page? :D |
| #16SylvanPrincessApr 09, 2009 14:02:02 | bump? if i could get your advice on a tiger strike (main discipline) shadow hand (sub discipline) build, that be great! what i want to have/ use: ~tiger strike discipline ~blade talons ~leaping attacks/flying attacks (skirmish from a couple levels of scout here?) ~NOT focusing on hiding (therefore not using shadow hand as much). my dex mod will be such that i will be able to hide anyway. plus, i was just looking at some feats from http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=633443 i may be tiny but your dead. there seem to be alot of things i could add to confound my enimies. ~maximize my AC, without hurting my wisdom bonus. again, i want to use the damage bonus from wis. a +5 at level 4 would be pretty nice, especially with the aforementioned soaring raptor strike. unless you can tell me why i should use shadow hand instead of tiger. i need to read a lot more on it all, but tips are still appreciated. |
| #17carnivoreApr 09, 2009 15:38:46 | if you really want to do that .. fine, i personally would rather use Warblade(better HD(d12), Full BAB,Int based class abillities, can take Fighter only Feats) since they can also take Tiger Claw Manuvers, but thier Refresh mechanics are better(Swift action to regain all manuvers) if you really want that... try this: Pixie Swordsage 15/ Master of Nine 5 8 Str(12 -4 racial) 18 Dex(14 +4 racial) 14 Con(14) 15 Int(12+3 racial) 19 Wis(17 +2 racial) 15 Cha(12 +3 racial) All boost go to Wisdom Feats: Dodge(pixie Bonus) Alertness(pixie Bonus) Weapon Finnesse(pixie Bonus) 1st lvl: Adaptive Style 3rd lvl: Improved unarmed Strike 6th lvl: Superior Unarmed Strike 9th lvl: Intuitive Attack 12th lvl: Versatile unarmed Strike 15th lvl: Improved Natural Attack(Unarmed Strike) 18th lvl: Snap Kick :D |
| #18SylvanPrincessApr 09, 2009 16:36:23 | wow thanks! u really know more about this book than i. i havent even read warblade yet!ill check it out real quick here..... |
| #19streaksterApr 09, 2009 16:41:51 | Carnivore, need Blind-Fight and Improved Initiative in that build, don't you? |
| #20SylvanPrincessApr 09, 2009 18:49:00 | Carnivore, need Blind-Fight and Improved Initiative in that build, don't you? swordsage gains a plus to initiative every 5 levels to a +5 at lev 20. plus dexterity bonus is pretty high... |
| #21streaksterApr 09, 2009 19:31:36 | swordsage gains a plus to initiative every 5 levels to a +5 at lev 20. plus dexterity bonus is pretty high... Prereqs for Master of Nine, I meant. |
| #22SylvanPrincessApr 09, 2009 23:59:01 | Prereqs for Master of Nine, I meant. my bad. i havent read much past sword sage :D |
| #23SylvanPrincessApr 10, 2009 2:37:58 | omg. so my friend rolled pretty bad numbers, and my dm (the rookie) rolled a d6 and let him add the roll to his numbers - 5 more points to distribute. so i spoke up "hey, i want that too...." and i got a 4.so i get to put a 4 into my abilities! whoop! now my numbers are.... str 10 dex 22 con 14 int 16 wis 19 cha 14 i think. i need to go back and look at my original rolls. but this will give me a 21 AC without armor. at level 1. +dodge... |
| #24carnivoreApr 10, 2009 4:33:27 | Carnivore, need Blind-Fight and Improved Initiative in that build, don't you? opps ... brain fart... forgot about that, you are correct if you would really like... here is something even better.... Pixie Warblade 20 10 Str(14 -4 racial) 23 Dex(15 +4 racial +4 bonus) 14 Con(14) 18 Int(15 +3 racial) 14 Wis(12 +2 racial) 16 Cha(13 +3 racial) All Boosts go to Dex Feats: Dodge(pixie Bonus) Alertness(pixie Bonus) Weapon Finnesse(pixie Bonus) 1st lvl: Adaptive Style 3rd lvl: Exotic Weapon(Spiked Chain) 6th lvl: Martial Study(Shadow Hand Manuver) 9th lvl: Martial Stance(Shadow Hand Stance) 12th lvl: Shadow Blade 15th lvl: Combat Reflexes 18th lvl: Robilars Gambit it will give a lot more for a MELEE centered build.... :D |
| #25SylvanPrincessApr 10, 2009 11:48:04 | i just love when you post on my threads carnivore! i have new numbers now. posted above. kinda ridiculous imo, but the dm did it for all of us... i like this warblade. do you think it will be successful with a faerie'? i mean pixie? |
| #26SylvanPrincessApr 10, 2009 12:27:39 | what do u think of this as an alternative to a spiked chain? Kusari-gama: A kusari-gama is a length of chain with a kama at one end. It can be used either as a double weapon or as a reach weapon. You can fight with it as if fighting with two weapons, incurring all the normal attack penalties as ifusing a one-handed weapon and a light weapon. In this case, you can only strike at an adjacent opponent. If you use the kusari-gama as a reach weapon, you can strike opponents 10 feet away with it . In addition, unlike other weapons with reach, you can use it against an adjacent foe. In this case, you can only use one end of the kusari-gama effectively ; you cannot use it as a double weapon. You can choose which end of the kusari-gama to use. The kama end deals 1d6 points ofdamage and is a slashing weapon; the chain end deals 1d4 points ofdamage and is a bludgeoning weapon. You can make trip attacks with a kusari-gama. If you are tripped during your own trip attempt, you can drop the kusari gama to avoid being tripped. When using a kusari-gama, you get a +2 bonus on your opposed attack roll when attempting to disarm an opponent (including the roll to avoid being disarmed ifyou fail to disarm your opponent). You can use the Weapon Finesse feat to apply your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to attack rolls with a kusari-gama. |
| #27SylvanPrincessApr 10, 2009 12:45:18 | the more i think about it the more i REALLY want to cross swordsage (or warblade i guess) with scout. it seems INSANE. fast movement, skirmish - seems to be the best choice for alot of the tiger claw strikes, plus a bonus to ac. there are a lot of other nice extras too.... maybe Swordsage 10/Scout 10? the ability to fly with skirmish AND discipline strikes.... ooooo baby! |
| #28carnivoreApr 10, 2009 15:04:42 | Kusari-gama is great for this type of character... actually it is great for any character here are some reasons why i suggest Warblade over Swordsage.... since your main focus is Tiger Claw manuvers
1)D12 HD.... this is a huge benefit for a Melee combat focused Character 2)Full BAB ..... again, this is also Huge for a Melee Combat Character... you will get more itterative Attacks earlier than Swordsage 3)Manuver Recovery system ...... you can get all of your Readied manuvers back after you use them with a single Swift action
usually: Movment + Accurate Attacks + good Damage = effective at Combat if you want to combine with Scout for Skirmish damage.... try this: Scout 10/ Warblade 10 dont worry about you AC so much..... if you get initiative, and can hit them HARD, First... they usually wont hit back you could also look at this PrC in Tome of Battle: Bloodclaw Master..... i dont remember the reqs... it may have something you can use :D |
| #29sofawallApr 10, 2009 15:15:15 | Bl *gasp* I think that's the first time I've seen you not end a post with a smiley face! |
| #30carnivoreApr 10, 2009 15:17:28 | *gasp* I think that's the first time I've seen you not end a post with a smiley face! opps.... i accidentally erased my smiley face and didnt see it before i posted .... thanks, corrected it ;) :D |
| #31SylvanPrincessApr 10, 2009 15:53:42 | thats basically what i was looking at. i just figured for a 10/10 character, swordsage would have more maneuvers than warblade at a given level. but if the warblade can recover his attacks so fast then perhaps it would be better. i just found bloodclaw master. its perfect. because we're allowed anything 3.5, i will be using oriental adventure armor. and i think the Kusari-gama will be awesome for this guy. also, ive decided to make my pixie japanese looking. basically i will look like an 19 year old japanese girl. another thing is....we have the diablo 2 d20 book. the arms and armor are comparable, and i think i might use the mask. remember the mask? ![]() it would be different in facial expression, and female, but yeh, that would be sweet! with the leather scale from oriental adventures. thanks for your help carnivore. i really appreciate it. things are starting to coalesce. this is going to be a crazy character. [i think this would be a sick character with a normal elf character too]. but as a pixie its insane. the reason i want tiger is because alot of the strikes only work vs creatures 1 size bigger than me. and i like the idea of being a fast, damaging character without strength. *gasp* with your build i wont get my wisdom mod to AC. i REALLY want that. what about a split with levels of swordsage, and the rest split between scout and warblade? pwease??? feasible? becasue with it, my AC will be like 24-25. |
| #32jseahApr 10, 2009 15:58:19 | also, ive decided to make my pixie japanese looking. basically i will look like an 19 year old japanese girl. Are you sure it's not 8 year old? You're Small you know... ;) *gasp* with your build i wont get my wisdom mod to AC. i REALLY want that. what about a split with levels of swordsage, and the rest split between scout and warblade? pwease??? feasible? Buy a monk's belt (wis+1 to AC). I think this stacks with the swordsage's one too. So you might want both for 2wis+1 to AC. XD In any case, a 2level dip for that is not worth it IMO. Might want to try 1 monk... |
| #33SylvanPrincessApr 10, 2009 19:28:56 | well it wouldnt just be for that. it would be for the increased number of maneuvers per day too. and quick to act + battle fortitude {scout} give +2 initiative. |
| #34SylvanPrincessApr 11, 2009 2:27:17 | carnivore.......*petulant*... will you run another mock up for me please>? idea for 3.5 monk crossed with martial disciplines? warblade or sword sage. im pretty sure that the wis bonus for each class does NOT stack, but someone correct me if im wrong please! i i was just noticing that alot of the disciplines have unarmed as a favored weapon, and alot of the maneuvers would be awesome with hand to hand... your thoughts please ser. as well as the rest of you who have been kind enuf to lend me your brains....(im not a zombie, i wont eat them). |
| #35SylvanPrincessApr 11, 2009 14:36:06 | never mind, im sticking with scout and swordsage or warblade. i honestly like swordsage better. i dont care so much about recovering my manuevers as a swift action. i have more of them, and thus dont need to worry as much about that. i think with a +6 in my dex and the wis bonus (like a plus 4 - plus 5 at lev 4) that my def wiill be enough that i dont need to worry about the higher hit die from the warblade. plus ill be able to hit anything with a 22 dex, and wont have to worry about a slower BAB. |
