| #1golem1972Mar 24, 2008 21:58:44 | I've been thinking about this one for a couple of days, and it seems to be legal if a bit.... odd. I'm just wondering if this is RAW legal. Basically, the Supermount idea is: Paladin mount = good Animal Companion = good Mount + Companion + Devoted Tracker = Great Mount + Companion + Devoted Tracker + Halfling Outrider = Awesome Mount + AC + DT + HO + Dragon Steed = Really Awesome Mount + AC + DT + HO + DS + Dragon Cohort (mount with class levels) = Really Really Awesome All of the above is assumed to work RAW (if you have an argument with that, please take it to the supermount thread where it's being debated in detail). What I'm wondering is: can you replace the Dragon (a gold wyrmling dragon (9hd + 3LA) with a Dragonwrought Kobold (with a full 19 class levels)? If so, what build would you use for the Kobold? I'm thinking some full-caster progression build or gish build (with about 20 ~ 30 bonus dragon HD) would work well. Something like Skitter, the Swiftblade Kobold. |
| #2littlefreak_dupMar 24, 2008 22:11:12 | if you are a halfling and your mount is a kobold he would be small like you. isnt your mount supposed to be larger than you? something in the DMG about "willing and able" I think also, If I where a +20 Sorcerer Dragonwrought Kobold with greater draconic ritual, even if I where able to cast enlarge person on myself I wouldnt let you try to use me as a mount. anyway, just a thought. |
| #3sinfire_titanMar 24, 2008 22:36:12 | Technically, it is legal. Physically, not so much. The Kobold wouldn't agree to be a mount for anything unless he was hit with a constant Enlarge spell. |
| #4golem1972Mar 24, 2008 23:08:07 | Actually, I was thinking alter self to medium dragon would be legal (or polymorph if not). As far as wanting / not wanting to be your mount, he'd be a mount, companion, wild cohort, dragon cohort, dragon steed. I think you can over-rule his wishes on this subject. ![]() PS ST, I saw in another thread that you miss OK. I'm here in Tulsa (but don't miss it). |

It's also possible that since Kobolds in general aren't dragons, you can't get one as a mount. The argument would be that first you pick the kind of mount you want, and then your mount gets whatever feats. Since the Kobold becomes a Dragon via a feat, you can't ride a Kobold because the generic Kobold doesn't have that feat. Basically a more convoluted variation on the old addage of putting the cart before the horse. |

| #7golem1972Mar 25, 2008 0:18:32 | I do not believe it would be possible for you to pick the kobolds class levels. Instead, the kobold would get generic "Dragon" HD. A character can try to attract a cohort of a particular race, class, and alignment. While it would take a lenient DM to let you completely build your cohort, it's not unheard of. You should be able to outline what you're looking for and expect to get something fairly close. Kobolds in general are not dragons. But, a Dragonwrought Kobold is a dragon. In this particular case, I'm declaring my cohort to be my mount. It seems to be perfectly kosher to have a kobold sorcerer or bard as a cohort. The obscene amount of Bonus HD are Dragon HD (maybe), but are just bonus HD from the halfling riders class features. ST: I was born near Tucson, but graduated from BAHS. That might explain why so many of my idears are... less than totally brilliant. ![]() |

I have an excuse for my crazy ideas: I'm a High-Priest of Tzeentch, god of all Chaos. Born in OK, moved to FL when I was 4. Been living here ever since, and hating the lack of snow. I want to go sledding dammit! |
| #9phoenix00Mar 25, 2008 3:18:26 | have the dragonwrought kobold take that feat in Dragons of Eberron that allows the Dragonwrought Kobold to get the Alternate Form ability, then use the Alternate Form to assume the medium size form of a Humanoid and carry the Halfing everywhere. Also you can have the dragonwrought kobold take levels of Master Transmogrifist Sorcerer 6/Master Transmogrifist 5 will get you the ability to stay in the form indefinitely. (As well as casting as a 6+2+1+3=12 th level sorcerer). Accessible starting level 12 or 13 depending on whether you took improved cohort. |
