| #1SIKBUZJan 18, 2009 18:57:12 | Can/has some-one made one of these.. I've seen the sorceror builds but no Warrior builds about for kobolds.. I am wanting/needing an 8th level build (to go through above 20) using all published 3.5/3.0 books except Psionics/Tome of Battle.. Decent rolled stats of 18, 17, 16, 16, 13, 11 I've in the past gone for hard hitting warriors or decent damage dealing Arcane casters. Anybody? |

Martial Weap of Great Pick or Dire Pick (using racial weapon famil) Improved Trip Power Attk Etc ATM i cannot remember wut is needed for Abjur Champ. combat casting, able to cast abjuration spells, and is it 7 BAB? Prepare spells lke haste, shield, etc Ur HD is lvls of D8 (bSorc) and X D10 so ur tough. warrior build with full casting, and dont forget the rituals kobolds can undergo for spelllike abilities and casting benefits. Races of Dragon Enjoy ;p |
| #4dragonsonJan 19, 2009 11:02:08 | Races of the Dragon has some Racial Substitution levels for a Kobold Fighter. He gets +2 Str, +2 Con, Spear Focus, but no Med. or Heavy Armor and no Bonues feats for the first 4 levels (I think... Away from my books). Kobolds prefer mobility rather than brute force. That said, there are possibilities. You could probably make a decent spiked chain tripping kobold with those stats. Or a hit-and-run kobold with a longspear. Use feats to pick up Dodge, Mobility and Spring Attack, then hop in and out of combat (maybe with a Brb dip for speed bonus) stabbing away. I would go with Str 14 (from 18), Dex 18 (from 16), Con 15 (from 17), Int 13, Wis 16, Cha 11. Use the other tricks in Races of the Dragon to give yourself some other abilities, maybe. Picking up the SLA Rite gives you a 1st-level Sor/Wiz spell 1/day. Take something that will always be useful. I recently had the idea to do a kobold in disguise who was killing people with a "Power Word Pain" SLA. Could be fun... Power Word Pain is in Races, also. Hope this helped. |

| #6jameswilliamogleJan 19, 2009 14:09:48 | Kobold Fighter 20 1,b TWF, WF: Morningstar 2b Power Attack 3 Imp. Bull Rush 4b WpnSpec: Morningstar 6,b iTWF, Shocktrooper 8b Brutal Strike 9 Leap Attack 10b Three Mountains 12,b Two-Weapon Pounce, 14b Driving Attack 15 Two-Weapon Rend 16b Underfoot Combat 18,b Confound the Big Folk, Kobold Endurance 20b Steadfast Determination The main schtick here is to combine rapid movement w/ TWPounce, Rend, Lightening Mace, and Shocktrooper. Kobold Endurance combines very well w/ Confound the Big Folk and Tripping options (make sure to use the RotD web enhancement "slight build" to get CtBF's bonuses against more creatures). TWF works decently as you have lots of feats to boost up the damage on your maces. Could this work on a non-kobold? Surely, though you'd lose out on the +4 to Str checks from Kobold Endurance, and need another way to get movement. |
| #7phaedrusxyJan 19, 2009 14:16:04 | There was an awesome thread just a few days ago on the Brilliant Gameologists board about making a kobold barbarian, and I was amazed at how well it turned out. I think I can summarize the suggestions there: 1) Be a venerable dragonwrought desert kobold. This lets you get boosts to your mental stats for free, and not take a Con penalty. 2) Take the Draconic Rite of Passage to gain a sorcerer caster level. Later take the Greater Rite and/or Loredrake. This lets you cast a few sorcerer spells without actual levels in the class. 3) Use the online web enhancement for Races of the Dragon that says you get two claw attacks and a bite. 4) Take the Lion Totem barbarian sub-level to get pounce. Combined with 3, this gives you three attacks on a pounce at first level. 5) Add totemist levels. Some of this stuff was suggested in post 4 I just noticed. |
| #8tytalusJan 19, 2009 14:25:09 | By far the coolest idea I've seen for a "kobold" fighter so far is to play a changeling with the Racial Adaptation feat. I can't take credit for this idea, but the gist is that he grew up with kobolds and believes to be one of them (and uses his minor shapechange to look like one - albeit a very large one). The RA feat allows you to take the Kobold Fighter substitution levels (for some minor ability bonuses, see above). Changeling also qualifies for the powerful Warshaper PrC [CW]. "Kobold" (Changeling) Fighter4/Warshaper4: 01: Fighter 01 (Feat) 02: Kobold Fighter 02 (CON +2) 03: Fighter 03 04: Kobold Fighter 04 (STR +2) 05: Warshaper 01 (Immunities) 06: Warshaper 02 (STR +4, CON +4) 07: Warshaper 03 (Reach) 08: Warshaper 04 (Fast Healing 2) At level 8 you have +6 Str and Con, 10' reach, fast healing, immunities to crits & sneak attacks, and a few other things. Pretty nifty. Compared to a kobold you don't have the ugly ability penalties and your medium size makes a tripper build much more viable. Better yet, get a two-handed weapon, and go the power attack route with battle jump, shock trouper, etc. |

| #11carnivoreJan 19, 2009 15:58:58 | i was doing some research on this... and will have something tomorrow for you Battle Sorceror is found here: http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/unearthedCoreClass.html#battle-sorcerer :D |
| #12phaedrusxyJan 19, 2009 16:26:03 | True.. But Kobolds always seem to be made as Sorcerers.. Why not a change No, you can get 3 levels of sorcerer casting with no levels in the sorcerer class. So a kobold fighter1/barb1 could cast as a sorcerer 3. Yes, it's insane, but true. I don't remember if there are requirements for the feats that allow this that would prevent you from doing it that early, but you get the idea. |

| #14emansdrawkcabJan 19, 2009 16:46:15 | Kobold Fighter 2/ Dragonblood Sorcerer 1/ Kobold Paragon 3/ Swiftblade 10/ Unseen Seer 4 As PhaedrusXY said: "1) Be a venerable dragonwrought desert kobold. | #15carnivoreJan 20, 2009 5:34:14 | Kobold Fighter 2/ Dragonblood Sorcerer 1/ Kobold Paragon 3/ Swiftblade 10/ Unseen Seer 4 aww man... you took my build :P .... nice job, i was thinking along these lines as well.... Kobold Paragon is Great for any Kobold build also Swiftblade is awesome for this character here is the Dragonwrought Feat ... at the bottom of the page i would suggest Earth Kobold instead of Desert Kobold -2 Strength, -2 Constitution: Earth kobolds are stronger, though less agile, than their typical kobold cousins. +4 racial bonus on Craft (trapmaking) checks related to stonework traps: Earth kobolds are particularly skilled at crafting traps made from the earth. +1 racial bonus on attack rolls against creatures of the air subtype, including extraplanar creatures from the Elemental Plane of Air. -2 penalty on all saving throws against spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities with the air subtype or used by creatures of the air subtype, including extraplanar creatures from the Elemental Plane of Air. Stability: An earth creature gains a +4 bonus on ability checks made to resist being bull rushed or tripped when standing on the ground (but not when climbing, flying, riding, or otherwise not standing firmly on the ground). If the standard race already has this ability, the bonuses stack. if you take the Kobold Fighter Subtitution Levels at 1st and 2nd lvl... you get to reduce the penalty to Con... thus all you are left with is -2 Str... and for a Small creature, it is not too bad also i would recomend the Variant Kobold Racial Traits ..... combined with some of jameswilliamogle (Kobold Fighter 20)..points: Kobold Fighter 20 Underfoot Combat[General](RotW p152)req:Small size (or smaller),Tumble: 10 ranks You can move into or through a square occupied by a creature at least two size categories larger than you. You do not provoke Attacks of Opportunity for doing so. When you are in a square occupied by a creature at least two size categories larger than you, you gain the benefit of Soft Cover (+4 bonus to AC) again all attacks (including those of the creature whose space you occupy). Confound the Big Folk[Tactical](RotW p153)req:Small size (or smaller), Underfoot Combat, Tumble: 10 ranks You may use the following 3 tactical maneuvers:
Knee Striker – When you occupy a square with a creature at least two size categories larger than you, the creature is considered Flat-Footed against you and you receive a +4 bonus on rolls to confirm critical hits. Underfoot Defense – When you occupy a square with a creature at least two size categories larger than you, and you Fight Defensively, use Total Defense, or use Combat Expertise, any melee or ranged attack on you has a 50% chance of striking the creature who shares the square with you (that creature does not have a 50% chance of striking itself). Unsteady Footing – When you occupy a square with a creature at least two size categories larger than you, you may initiate a Trip attack on the creature you share the square with and not provoke an Attack of Opportunity. You can add your choice of Strength or Dexterity modifier to you check (your opponent gets the better of its Strength or Dexterity as usual). Your opponent does not get to add his/her size bonus to its roll. If the Trip attempt fails, your opponent does not get to try to trip you.
:D |
| #16emansdrawkcabJan 20, 2009 11:59:37 | I always like to have Minor Shapeshift on all my gish builds. |
| #17SIKBUZJan 20, 2009 15:44:52 | Ok.. Very cool builds - I'll make it tonight and see how it goes. One question - Dragonblood Sorcerer? What book is this in? Thanks guys ![]() |
| #18emansdrawkcabJan 20, 2009 15:53:12 | Ok.. Very cool builds - I'll make it tonight and see how it goes. One question - Dragonblood Sorcerer? What book is this in? Races of the Dragon, page 107. You don't really need to lose your familiar, especially considering you're going to have fairly good HP. It's just an option. |
