Okay, need some suggestions, here’s my situation

Books
Straight Core Only [PHB, DMG, MMI]
Iron Kingdom Books [Any]
Starting at first level

Setting
Iron Kingdoms
If you’ve never heard of it the quick story is steampunk + restricted spellcasting. The spell casting restrictions are no teleportation, no wishes/miracles, limited healing, limited summoning, and limited necromancy.
Legal PrCs: Archmage, Blackguards, Duelists, Dwarven Defender, Hierophants, Loremasters, + Iron Kingdom PrCs [short story no good warrior PrCs]

Race
Ogrun (Pseudo Half Ogre)
[Large] [+4 Str, -2 Int, -2 Wis]
Humanoid
Bonus Proficiency Ogrun Warcleaver (Polearm that has reach & can strike adjacent enemies)
Favored Class Barbarian
40 base move
Cannot be arcane casters of any sort
LA+0 [DM is dismissing level adjustment]

Party Role
This campaign is heavy on skill use and roleplaying. The group consists of 1) Gunmage (Pistoleer + Limited Sorcerer); 2) Arcane Mechanic (Limited Artificer + Limited Wizard); and 3) me

The group has no heavy muscle, which is my role. However, I don’t want to be a completely mindless meathead who does nothing but fight. Ogrun is a definite but still unsure about class arrangement. I’ve been thinking about Barbarian 1/ Cleric X, or Rogue 3/ Fighter 4/ Barbarian X, or Ranger 6/ Fighter 6/ Barbarian X, or Barbarian 1/ Rogue X/ Fighter X, or Barbarian 1/ Druid X, or ???

I am open to all suggestions for an Ogrun character. Looking for Class Build Skeleton, Stat Array, and maybe some feat suggestions.

Thanks for any and all input,
Necro

Let me rephrase, to simplify my question, what is a good 'core only' martial-type build for a large creature with no LA?

Get the half-dragon template, go full fighter and get the awesome blow feat.

Tripping seems like an obvious path to follow, but you may not have the intelligence for it. So unless you're willing to take 6 levels of monk, you might be out of luck as far as tripping goes.

I like grappling, too, but it's less good if you don't have any other melee fighters to back you up. Likewise, it sounds like a rogue will have a tough time flanking.

How about a druid? The animal companion can come in handy as a backup fighter, and you might be able to dish out some serious damage with a Shillelagh.

By the way, exactly how is summoning limited?

Half-Dragon or any template for that matter is out. What can I do with awesome blow?

I thought about Druid but with the setting and my group being so steampunk/tech happy I think I should pass.

As to the Summoning no extra planes except one, it's a case by case basis but mostly summoning spells either

1) Don't exist
2) Do exist but summon infernal demons along with use
3) Function differently, like for druid's summon monster spells only summon natural simple animals

Thanks,
Necro
