| #1arogenithMar 06, 2009 22:18:51 | I'm looking to start a new character, most likely tank, but want to leave the option open for a divine gish. The biggest thing I'm concerned with is the fact that I want to make a large character. La buyoff will be allowed, so basically what I'm wondering is, what are the best large races to go for. If I go tank, I'll most likely wind up using War Hulk, and possibly combine it with Frenzied Berserker or something interesting like that, Barbarian + Bear Warrior would be cool too, maxing out large hits. But yes, even just a link would help, thanks very much all |

| #5arogenithMar 07, 2009 12:25:34 | So basically the only large races that the entire CO board could come up with is as follows: half minotaur goliath half ogre well thank you fellows, I think I might look into that half ogre, or just permanent enlarge person. For some reason though, I'm a little underimpressed with the responses. We need a races handbook |
| #6sofawallMar 07, 2009 12:48:09 | There are plenty of large races, we just decided not to tell you the bad ones. If someone asks for a good martial class, we don't tell them Fighter, so when someone asks for a large race, we don't tell them the crap. |
| #7CantripNMar 07, 2009 13:40:36 | Incarnate Construct Maug isn't bad, either. Possibly a Primordial Giant Incarnate Construct Maug, or even a plain Maug. All 3 are better options than what you were offered - I'd go for the 2nd. Sources: Maug - Fiend Folio Incarnate Construct - Savage Species Primordial Giant - Secrets of Xendrick |
| #8bontakunMar 08, 2009 6:19:54 | where can I find stats for Half minotaur Goliath? |
| #9ozgunMar 08, 2009 8:26:02 | On your sheet when you combine Half-Minatour with Goliath. |

| #11thehumandynamoMar 08, 2009 11:48:15 | Honestly, for a tank (especially if you want to use warhulk), go something like Half-Minotaur Goliath (makes you size large, but count as Huge for things like what size weapon you can wield, opposed rolls like trip, bull rush, disarm, and damage from unarmed strikes like monk attacks) Fighter 6 (using the Dungeoncrasher Variant from Dungeonscape)/Barbarian1/Frenzied Berserker10/War Hulk 3. Assuming you start with a minimum of 16 in strength before racial mods, you would have the following at your first class level: 16 (base) + 4 (goliath) + 4 (half-minotaur) + 8 (size increase from medium to large, half-minotaur specifically says you gain the size increases if you change sizes) = 32 str to start off. Add in three levels of war hulk (38 str), +6 str item (44 str), +4 tome (48 str) and an item of permanent enlarge person (50 str and size huge, considered gargantuan for same stuff as above; or if you can swing it, a permanent item of augmented expansion making you gargantuan but considered colossal and giving you a 52 str) and you are looking at silly damage. Dungeoncrasher bull rush = 8d6 + (3 x 20) for 68 - 108 on a bull rush (or 8d6 + [3 x 21 if colossal ] for 71 - 111), before raging. Power Attack with Frenzied berserker (wielding a colossal weapon) and you can subtract 16 to get +64 damage, so do something like 8d6 (colossal greatsword) + 85 (64 from power attack + 21 str mod from being gargantuan) per attack. Range on that is 91 - 133. |

Total for both is a +2 LA when combined. |

Total for both is a +2 LA when combined. Not exactly a large creature, but shifters can easily become large with the use of shifter braids, every time they shift, and shifters make good barbarians. After mid level the cost is trivial. You just won't be large ALL THE TIME. - Ron ^*^ |
