Jun 16, 2013 16:04:53 Leap from the Saddle (Ex): A halfling outrider of 5th level or higher can dismount and land adjacent to her mount as a free action by making a DC 20 Ride check. If an opponent is in a square she threatens (after dismounting), she can make a melee attack against that opponent, taking a +2 bonus on the attack roll and a —2 penalty to Armor Class (just as if the character were making a charge). This ability is usable only if the mount is moving no faster than twice its speed.

I am a little fuzzy on the ruling here.

Does this mean I can make a charge attack while mounted, then as a free action after the charge attack, I can leap from my saddle and make another free melee attack?

1) Do not bump.
2) You've posted so many threads about this one character already.
3) Provided you're conforming with all the requirements for a charge attack's movement, then you're allowed to do this. Be advised that the Leap from the Saddle attack is not actually a charge attack: it just gets the +2 attack / -2 AC of a charge, not the other benefits.

ok but just to be clear, do I actually make the charge attack and roll damage, THEN leap from my saddle and make another attack / damage? If not what is the benifit of Leap from Saddle compared to a regular charge attack?

And yes i have posted lots of questions about this character, i'm new to 3.5 and I apoligize for bloating the forum. You have all been very helpful. Hopefully my build a post or two up will reflects this.

Yes, it's a separate attack.

Read the ability and think about the battle grid. This allows you to move freely (up to twice your mount's speed) and then instantly "charge" in any direction. A normal charge carries tight restrictions on how you can move (notably, you need line of sight and a clear straight path at the start of your turn if you want to deliver a charge). You're only thinking about it as mindless charging over and over again.

It's not a spectacular ability but it's also a very, very early ability for 3.5 (in fact, it predates 3.5 - it's identical to the original Halfling Outrider, which appeared in Sword and Fist, the first expansion for 3e. That book really shows that its authors didn't understand the system they were writing for!)

And yes i have posted lots of questions about this character, i'm new to 3.5 and I apoligize for bloating the forum. You have all been very helpful. Hopefully my build a post or two up will reflects this.

From now on please only post about this character in one thread. A quick Google or browse of the forums would tell you that 1) there's no bumping and 2) it's a slow pace compared to other forums.

EDIT: I meant "there's no bumping" in the sense of "there's no unicorns here", as opposed to "there's no speeding allowed".

Jun 19, 2013 22:23:23 While I agree with Tempest that things would be best if you keep your character specific questions in one threat there is no rule against bumping threads after a few days. It isn't likely to do any good but as long as you wait a few days, instead of a few hours (some people seem to think this is instant messaging), you should be fine.

If you consider that almost all of the help you well get will come from the same sources you either attract that attention which is likely to continue over the course of a tread or you don't. If you don't attract attention posting things over and over again isn't likely to help.
