So hey everyone thanks for taking the time to read this I appreciate it. I am soon to enter a D&D power game tournament in NOBRANDCON, northern Wisconsin’s premier anime convention.

Frankly its been a while since I built a level 20 killing machine and I was wondering what everyone’s suggestions would be for the killing potential possible in a 1v1 up to a 1v1v1v1 limited turn arena.

The RULES are fairly simple a limited selection of books is the worst bit.
Books allowed: “Players Handbook, Players Handbook II, Complete Arcane, Complete Adventurer, Complete Divine, Complete Mage, Complete Warrior, Dungeon Masters Guide, Monster Manual 3.5, Monster Manual 3, Monster Manual 4, Miniatures handbook, City of Splendors: Waterdeep, Faiths and Pantheons.” Limited others allowed after DM’s approval which probably won’t happen…

So any suggestions hints overpowered builds would be greatly appreciated…

PHB2 along with Arcane Thesis.

Now incorporate a way to never be flat-footed (Foresight, etc), and a way to be immune to being Dazed, and you always go first... unless the other guy has the same stuff. At level 20, going first usually means winning, especially if you're a wizard.

You can optimize initiative to a crazy extent with a wizard, also. I was working on a build for dueling the other day and kept adding stuff, and before I knew it, I had +19 at first level...

Mind telling us how you did that?

No actually. I didn't use the hummingbird, so it could be even higher. I wound up not using the character, and don't know if I saved it. Let me see if I can remember it all:

Diviner specialist: Blooded for +2, Dex 18 for +4, Aggressive Trait for +1, Improved Initiative instead of Scribe Scroll for +4 more, Nerveskitter for +5, Insightful Divination for +1 or more. After casting a 1st level divination spell, that's +18. So maybe I misremembered, or he had a higher Dex. You'd need one flaw to get the feats in.

Hmm... So no magic item compendium? Also, how is the duel set up? How far apart do you start? Is there cover? Is pre-buffing allowed?

I've actually had a lot of success with a Hexblade. The build I used was;

Human Hexblade (PHB2 varient) 20
1. Dreadful Wrath (PGtF)
1. Bind Vestige (ToM)
3. Improved bind vestige (ToM)
6. Netherese Battle Curse (LEoF)
9. Power Attack (PH)
12. Brutal Strike (PH 2)
15. Ability Focus (Hexblade Curse)
18. Empower Curse (Dragon magazine)

The idea was that with the Dark Companion and Focalor's Aura of Sadness, that was a -4 debuff to an opponents saves with no chance to save against. From there, you curse them, charge triggering dreadful wrath, and then hit them with a combination of brutal strike and a Netherese Battle Curse. If it all goes through, your opponent has -16 to their saves plus a boat load of other debuffs, and then you can cast a quickened (from a rod) baleful polymorph on them and effectively end the fight on the first turn.

I know this uses some materials that won't be allowed, but it may give you some ideas.

If its only one battle, I suggest Psion 20 to maximize your damage. You can also try erudite 20 with the new adaption to allow it to learn any spell (arcane or divine) of up to level 8
