| #1jetstrike3000Jan 25, 2009 2:43:38 | Heres the challenge. A level 9 monk VoP versus a Flashgolem with additional temp hp. All books allowed. No Dragon Magazine. Prestige Classes should be minimal only 1 or 2 levels of prestige. I really need help. I was thinking Id take TWF, ITWF, Imp Nat Atk. But I could really use some help. |
| #2leavantgardenoireJan 25, 2009 3:03:35 | Intuitive Attack and one level of Shiba Protector will get you your Wisdom to AC, attack and damage. Probably non-optimal since the Shiba Protector requires three crappy feats, but with flaws and the Passive Way monk variant you'll be able to get all three relatively painlessly, ignoring the intelligence requirement on Combat Expertise. Dip into Fire domain cleric to get access to Burning Hands/Produce Flame for a guaranteed 2d6 round slow, and the first couple levels of Sacred Fist might even work. I don't think this one is all that hard. L'Avantarde Noire |
| #3ninjarabbitJan 25, 2009 6:02:50 | Avoid the twf feats, you're going to miss a lot due to the penalties of twf and your medium BAB and the golem's damage reduction is going to make each hit do less damage. And VoP is less than optimal for monks, you give up way too much for what you get. You're much better off going for a str-based monk, you hit harder and kill the golem faster than it can kill you. My build would be a dragonborn half orc halforcparagon3/monk6, rage (which you can do legally since Half orc paragon allows lawful characters to rage) and smackdown the golem. |
| #4erhnamdjJan 25, 2009 6:42:58 | Whatever the variant is where you give up flurry for one attack with double damage + karmic strike and shiba protector should do it. I wouldn't bother with trying to slow it, the thing will have such a miniscule amount of hp. |
| #5hogarthJan 25, 2009 7:32:26 | A flesh golem should be pretty easy to beat; it's just a bag of hit points with a not-terribly-accurate attack. Kalashtar Monk 7/Psionic Fist 2 Feats: IUS [monk 1] Improved Grapple [monk 1] Sacred Vow [1st] Combat Reflexes [monk 2] Vow of Poverty [3rd] bonus exalted feat [4th] Wild Talent (ugh) [6th] Improved Trip [monk 6] bonus exalted feat [6th] bonus exalted feat [8th] Practiced Manifester [9th] Powers known: Grip of Iron, Expansion Tactics: Expand and grapple; you can trip him first -- it's up to you. You should be able to easily get a grapple check of at least +22 (+4 Str, +4 size, +6 BAB, +4 feat, +4 grip of iron). The usual monk grappling technique is to make a "flurry of pins", i.e. make three grapple checks each round, first to pin, then to do damage once your opponent is pinned. Your damage would be 2d8+Str+bonuses, easily enough to get past 5 points of DR. |
| #6agahi_renemJan 25, 2009 11:25:13 | I dont know how the progression would work, but Id go monk 1, fighter 2, warblade 1, kensai 5. That is a pretty simple build, and with kensai, take transmuting (+2) to overcome all DR, and any other enchants you want adding up to the remaining (+3) Feats greater(i think) unarmed strike from ToB, improved nat attack. monks belt, gives you 2d8+str unarmed strike. need combat expertese, and weapon focus(unarmed strike) for kensai, but even with that you still have 2 feats to burn (I think, with flaws) Magic items. Monks belt, and something to boost your AC. Max concentraition for the kensai ability that adds 8 to str for a round on a concentrait check of 25. |
| #7jetstrike3000Jan 25, 2009 11:42:34 | It has to be VoP and Monk and Monk Prestiges only. no Cross Classing My thought was a Thri Keen from Shining South as Race Leaving 8 Class levels to work with. That would give a large number of attacks. stats are 14, 14, 15, 15, 18, 18. VoP give a +2 to one stat. If you have to take any other base class aside form monk then you cant use the prc |
| #8agahi_renemJan 25, 2009 12:46:00 | Monk 6 kensai 2 then. Less optimized, but still works. Kensai is tech a monk Prc because monk is specificly mentioned in the description. Though Im not sure what you mean by monk prc. Do you mean something that says monk in the name? Kensai is one of the few ways to get enchantments on your natural attacks, and is definitly the only way I know for a VoP monk. |
| #9jetstrike3000Jan 25, 2009 13:43:16 | Custom DM Approved Race Half Giant Half Orc Large Size Str 24 Dex 16 Con 14 Int 13 Wis 18 Cha 12 Feats Headlong Rush, Reckless Charge, Powerful Charge, Battle Jump, Vow of Poverty, Sacred Vow, Stunning Fist, Combat Reflexes, Improved Trip, Favored of the Companions, Vow fo Non Violence, Vow of Peace, Words of Creation Variants Decisive Strike: Replace Flurry. Full attack to hit once dealing double. Wall Walker: Replace Slowfall walk on walls Whats everyone think? |
| #10runestarJan 25, 2009 18:05:48 | PHB2 lets you swap out flurry for decisive strike. While you make only 1 attack at double damage, this means that the golem's dr applies only once. Not sure of it is mathematically better though. |
| #11leavantgardenoireJan 25, 2009 23:08:55 | Custom DM Approved Race Vow of Peace twice and no Vow of Poverty. L'Avantgarde Noire |
| #12jetstrike3000Jan 26, 2009 10:10:28 | The arena information has been given to me it is 120' in diameter and 120' tall dome. The floor is made of earth. My hope is to use battle jump to initiate charges. I maxed my jump check. VoP is required. vow of peace and non violence give me a big boost to AC |
| #13phaedrusxyJan 26, 2009 20:08:30 | A flesh golem should be pretty easy to beat; it's just a bag of hit points with a not-terribly-accurate attack. +1. It meets all your requirements (only one monk flavored PrC, has VoP) and is effective. |
| #14hogarthJan 27, 2009 21:36:33 | +1. It meets all your requirements (only one monk flavored PrC, has VoP) and is effective. Actually, come to think of it Monk 7/Zerth Cenobite 2 would be even better, surprisingly; then you could replace Wild Talent (ugh) with Improved Natural Attack. Who would've thought there would be a use for Zerth Cenobite? ![]() |
