It's not the only one with shapeshifting, though - Zelda II had the Fairy spell, Majora's Mask had four Alter Self masks, Minish Cap had size-changing, and yes, even Ocarina had age-travelling. (The others tend to use a changing world rather than a changing hero.) The Ocarina Link is just a typical warrior-type, really. His special abilities, especially in Ocarina, are almost entirely due to his equipment. The hardest part is finding a way to be a competitive fighter wearing light armor (Twilight princess makes it clear that you can still look just like Link while wearing chainmail, which was too difficult for the N64 to render) and a shield (ruling out a lot of light-weapon options). Personally, I'd use some mix of Bard (perhaps with the animal companion variant) for a few levels, then Fighter the rest of the way before too much magic kicks in. His only "innate" magical ability in Ocarina (one said to be part of him, instead of part of his equipment) was the spin attack, and even that can be done nonmagically. The rest of his gear is less interesting - Magic arrows, a Rod of Ropes (damn good approximation of the hookshot), explosive packs, a magic boomerang, a Hammer of Impact, and (unmentioned) a Handy Haversack to hold all of this stuff. You could also look over the iconic Ganondorf build and see how close you can get with just description. |
