I am wanting to make a Lizardfolk Druid (roleplaying reasons, I know LA is bad for casters, but). My DM is allowing books that I suggest, assuming he thinks its not to cheesy. I need ideas for feats, prestige classes, and other bits, anything helps.

Also, what would be the consequences (if any) of removing the racial hit dies to reduce the loss of caster levels.

Are you sure you want to do that? The only good thing this race provides is constitution bonus. When you wildshape you will lose: strength bonus, natural armor and natural weapons. You probably keep hold breath, but that's not helpful anyway.

Removing the racial hit die helps greatly and using LA buyoff would be perfect.

Isn't there a Poison Dusk Lizardfolk that only has LA +1 and no racial hit dice, or something like that?

Monster Manual 3 Pages 68-69.

some excerpts:
+2 Dex +2 Con –2 Cha
Size: Small (all the normal penalties) - BUT base speed is still 30 feet
Some racial skill bonus: +4 Balance / Jump/ Swim, +5 Racial Hide
+3 natural armor bonus.
2 claws (1d3) and bite (1d3) natural attacks
Favored Class: Ranger
LA +1.
