Looking for a huge humanoid

A little background, first.

I'm hoping to be playing in a near-epic gestalt game soon, and I want to make Heliomance's grapple build (that's Drunken Master 4 and Multigrab chain to pick people up and wield them like clubs). I may go Dungeoncrasher/Warhulk and get Knockback, too. Then I can bash many people at once, and send them flying. I dunno.

I realize that he'll probably die pretty quickly since he's all offense and no defense, so no need to get into that. He's worth it.

But basically, my question is this: what's the biggest, coolest humanoid/monstrous humanoid/giant/whatever out there? I want NPCs to **** themselves when they see me coming over the hill. I have 18 levels to mess around with, and LA costs are halved.

I looked at hill giants and stone giants and stuff, and while cool, the 14 RHD and 4 LA for a Large size (albeit one with a +16 strength mod) is kind of... not good.

Thanks much.

If it's gestalt, the easiest way I can think of is Wu Jen on one side (for Giantsize) and your grappler build on the other.

Or a druid/wizard/whatever who can cast shapechange.

as a rule adding 18 levels of druid to any gestalt build makes it good, so yeah take your chain tripper thrower thingie and add 18 levels of druid to the other side and well win at D&D

As for race I'd go mongrel folk from races of destiny as their huge CON boost of +4 and hits to things that don't mater i.e. INT and CHA make for druidy goodness.

If your DM is open minded take a look in Green Ronin's "bastards and bloodlines," its full of racial cheese. Like the half titan.

Then again if dragon is allowed look up the half minatour template and add it to the half ogre mentioned above for huge creature with what +3 total LA?

It all depends on how far you'd be willing to go - A simple Druid18 (as mentioned) is good, but depending on how your DM rules LA to interact with Gestalt (as in - can you take a template on one side while you get HD/BAB/Saves etc on the other?), you can go completely crazy with templates (especially at half LA!).

If you'd like to keep it (sort of) sane - go with the suggestions mentioned earlier - also, Constrictor Naga (oriental adventures, updated in Dragon#318) is a huge Monstrous Humanoid with 4HD and 5LA, Constrict and Improved Grab. More than decent for a grappler, especially at half LA cost.

If not - take, say, an Anthropomorphic Giant Squid with the Half-Farspawn (LoM) and Voidmind (MM3) templates (total LA 8 => 4 and 3 Monstrous Humanoid HD) to get a decent 13 tentacle attacks in amorphous form (who might or might not all move on their own accord, depending on your reading of the Sentient Tentacle entry of Voidmind). You also get some decent ability boosts, constrict and Improved Grab (both very nice for a grapple build) and some random other stuff (telekinesis and greater invis are rather nice for the visuals).

Proceed to star in your own Hentai movie. Add a level of Soul Eater (BoVD) to make it a snuff film.

Minotaurs are pretty cool, IMO. Only a +2 LA (reduced to +1 in your case), nice stats, and they have the Cunning ability which is extremely useful in high level games of "who goes first".

Thanks for the suggestions, but wu jen and druid just aren't quite the flavor I'm going for.

I wanted to do it without resorting to spellcasting, if possible, because keeping track of spells and things is a great big headache for me. I'd rather keep it as simple as possible.

I'll look into the minotaur and squidguy ones, maybe they'll work for me.

Half Minotaur and Half Ogre from Dragon don't really stack size-changes. They bump you to a minimum size of Medium, which then becomes Large when you add the second one. If your base race is Medium, you can only ever become Large, no matter how many of these 2 you stack.

Also, wouldn't that run into the logistics problem of being half-human half-minotaur and half-ogre?

I mean, how would that work?

*sigh*

In all templates involving the word half, instead read part. So part-human, part-minotaur, part-ogre.

I believe this was addressed in Savage Species?

Sun Giant from MMII. Huge size, 13 HD, +3 LA (or +1 or +2 for your game?). +26 STR is hard to beat.

Maybe something like this:

Half-Dragon (White) Sun Giant (Cold & Fire Immunity) on one side, that takes up 16 levels total I believe. Then on the other side take whatever the heck you want, just make sure you can use UMD or otherwise activate a staff of Antimagic Field. You're now a huge, flying, hugging machine of death. Make sure and take the stance Crushing Weight of the Mountain for the Constrict ability to deal 2d6 + 1.5 x STR while grappling.

Races of Destiny, Half-Ogre, LA+2, Large. Overall, enough space to squeeze in all the class levels you'll need(hopefully). At the least, you can be a Colossal+ with Giant Size from Wu-Jen. If you go Cleric, Righteous Might will make you Huge, and you can try for Greater Mighty Wallop. Else pick up the Feat in RoD that makes you count as Human, and you should be able to qualify for Enlarge Person(as a Wizard/Sorc).

And don't let the druid's animal companion pick on you just because his INT is 2 and yours is only 1.

I ended up going Cave Troll which was I think 9 HD and +6(3) LA, but Sun Giant sounds like it would have worked great, too.

You'd have to chisel that into this guys arm. ;)

I actually ran a Stony Feral ABW once in a friends homebrewed "monster" campaign (so it was setting friendly). Man was that fun, higher wisdom, if I can remember correctly like a 4 intelligence, had a swim speed, could burrow through just about anything, groups wizard granted him fly - an all terrain killing machine. Fun times.

Cheers,
Necro
