So i just spent the last 4 hours searching through the Char Op boards looking for the thread about rules as written and that maybe overreliance on RAW is a bad thing at times and one should instead go with Rules as Intended.

My search skills cosited of entering every form of rules as written, RAW, guide to RAW,  RAW myths,  and any combination of those words for 2 hours then going page by page loking for it as well for the next  2 hours.... after page 82. i just gave up as my eyes are starting to hurt.

I am just hoping that somebody else has better search skills that I do and maybe even know what thread I am talking about.

If it's the one I think it was, then you wouldn't have found it that way. The last post was Jan 2011, and that was a bump to save.

The phrase "Raw myth" was what set me off. Was it the Ten Commandments of Practical Optimization?  The first six commandments or so are all based on that same theme, with the third actually being "RAW is a myth". (It was an extension of the original half-tongue-in-cheek Ten Commandments, only one of which is in contradiction between the two.) Do note that even here, it's not simply saying "go with RAI", because there are clearly times where that isn't obvious. It's a bit more nuanced than that.

Tempest's sig:  " ... Recovering from cancer surgery. Back in a bit ... "

Ouch. Get well soon.
I just went to a Pink Zone game, last week.
1000+ people showed up.

One of Caelic's other threads was (partially) titled : Rules As I Want Them To Be.
Same general idea.

Good on you!

I'm doing much better (radiation treatment won't start for a couple of months, but my prognosis is still very good). Should be ready to get back to work soon, having missed about a week of classes and research. (I'm nearly done my (delayed) M.Sc.)

Yeah, that was a bit closer to the general "RAI!" meme, but it was pruned during the first Gleemax purge.

When I'm looking for a specific thread that I can remember PARTS of but not the title, I just use a Google advanced search. For example, try typing "site:community.wizards.com breakdancing kalashtar" for instance, and you'll find that particular part of the discussion from the Jumplomancer - and the Optimization Circus, which employed a similar stunt for the Dancing Bear.

The same trick works for "site:community.wizards.com raw is a myth" - the Practical Optimization Commandments show up as the first hit.
