| #1guest57316791Mar 04, 2009 18:07:19 | Hey all, A friends gaming group decided to recruit me as the Evil Boss to scare them. They gave me a base character and said: go for it. Books allowed: Any 3.5, 3.0 not republished. I was given the following: Race : Orc Class: Barbarian 13/ Frenzied Berserker 10 Stats: str 27 / dex 16 / con 14 / Int 10 / wis 8 / chr 6 Hp 230 Feats: 1 - Power Attack 3 - Cleave 6 - Destructive Rage 9 - Intimidating Rage 12- Great Cleave 15 - *my choice* 18 - *my choice* 21 - *my choice* Skills: Intimidate 26 ranks Jump 17 ranks Gold: 760,000 to spend... but had to have a vorpal weapon (why, who the heck knows) _______________________________________________________ I chose : Feats: 15 - Leap Attack 18 - Imp Bull Rush 21 - Shock Trooper Weapon: +1 adamantine Vorpal falchion of Wrathful Healing (source: Enemies and Allies pg 20 sidebar) Equipment of Note: Retributive Amulet (BoED) Scabbard of Keen Edges +1 Leather Armor; Hvy Fort, Soulfire Armbands of Might vest: resistance +5 stone of good luck +6 str, con, wis items +2 dex item +5 str tome +4 con tome Current Stats: str 38 / dex 18 / con 24 / int 10 / wis 8 / con 6 raged/frenzy str 54 con 30 rage potion str 56 con 32 ______________________________________________________________ The question is now: given that some bizarre way, the orc has gained xp to reach lvl 26... q1) how many rages per day does he have? (assuming barb 13 then FB 10) q2) is Indomitable Will gained? trap sense? another rage at barb 14? Really the questions boil down to two things: 1) how does the epic progression work... I'm getting lost as to what is gained in what class etc. 2) If I read the book (DMG 3.5) correctly, a stat point is gained at lvl 24, a feat is gained for char lvl 24 & another feat is gained at 4 lvls of epic barb . . ... so what 2 feats would max out the damage of this guy? . . thoughts: if rage is gained at lvl24 then 5 rage/day opens up Terrifying Rage (DMG, Epic) another thought: Imp Sunder & Combat Brute for momentum swing but I'm sure that I'm missing some paths / thoughts... any help in creating a real monster? ![]() |

| #3jenosMar 05, 2009 0:21:53 | First off, a Bard 13/FB 10 is only level 23, so no additional stat point or feat for being level 24. Next, the thing to realize is that epic class progressions only occur when you take a level beyond their listed progression, and are above level 20. In this case, you recieve NO epic progression because you take non-epic levels of Barbarian(Specifically, Barb 11, Barb 12, Barb 13). If the character reaches level 26, he has 3 more levels to play with. I assume he will go FB 11, FB 12, and FB 13. Since FB has no listed epic progression, one must be created by the DM. If he takes Barbarian 14, 15, 16 instead, he gets no epic bonuses, but he gains the regular stuff for gaining levels 14, 15, and 16 barbarian, with the normal epic caveats(No BAB or Saves, use Epic Progression for character levels for that). |
| http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20020706aguest57316791Mar 05, 2009 18:06:28 | Just to clarify the ground state: character is currently Bbn 13 / FB 10 enough XP has been gained to take it to lvl 26 (in steps so as to not double lvl up from one fight)... leveling has been delayed and is being rectified. Having worked through the epic rules a bit more since the first post: Option 1) The Orc could go barbarian - non-epic progression: lvl 24: Bbn 14: Indomitable Will (class feat); CL= multiple of 3 = feat(any); CL = multiple of 4 = stat point(any) lvl 25: Bbn 15: Trap Sense +5 lvl 26: Bbn 16: Rage 5/day; DR 4/- so one open feat to play with Option 2) The Orc could go Frenzied Berzerker - epic progression: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20020706a lvl 24: FB 11: Frenzy 6/day; CL= multiple of 3 = feat(any); CL = multiple of 4 = stat point(any) lvl 25: FB 12: Inspire Frenzy 4/day lvl 26: FB 13: Frenzy 7/day; Bonus Feat (epic progression) which would leave two open feats to play with Option 3 to n) ?? open to thoughts ![]() Looking for Thoughts with this part So... sticking with option 1... thoughts to increase damage / OMG Bad Guy ish'ness? option 2 (with 2 feats) ? _________________________________________________ Board ruling please: (from epic suppliment) Frenzy: The epic frenzied berserker may enter a frenzy one additional time per day for every two levels gained after 9th. In addition, at the DM’s option, any epic feat that affects rage (such as Chaotic Rage) has the same effect on the frenzied berserker’s frenzy ability. Epic Frenzied Berserker Bonus Feat List: Chaotic Rage, Damage Reduction, Devastating Critical, Epic Prowess, Epic Toughness, Fast Healing, Overwhelming Critical, Penetrate Damage Reduction, Ruinous Rage, Terrifying Rage, Thundering Rage. Rule Question: Can the Bbn 13/ FB 10 take Terrifying Rage as the lvl 24 feat due to already having frenzy 5/day in order to qualify as per the red text above and the inclusion of the feat in the Bonus Feat List since having 16 barbarian levels is not assumed in the class? Would the Orc need to take one level of FB (epic) to qualify to the RAW? |
| #5sofawallMar 05, 2009 20:08:27 | Epic begins t level 21, no matter what your level distribution is. Assuming you went Barb13 then FB10, you could take that feat at Char level 21, or FB level 8. And please don't use CL to mean character level. It means caster level, and realy threw me for a loop when I read it. |
| #6khorusMar 06, 2009 8:38:22 | Combat Brute, Break all their weapons Then take another attack at the same bonus your broke their weapons. lol That is horribly mean btwCombat Brute Tactical feat from Complete warrior |
| #7lormadorMar 06, 2009 8:49:19 | What's protecting his will save and mobility, allies casting Mind Blank and Free Movement? That might not be a thick enough defense. And where's his AMF? Also: Intimidating Rage, Instantaneous Rage, Imperious Command (Drow of the Underdark). It's nasty. You might be interested. I don't build barbarians without it anymore, if it's allowed. Oh, and at this level he'll need a way out of Forcecages, etc. |
